As a committee, the Jindalee State

School P & C is focussed on promoting

parent participation and encouraging

collaboration between parents, students,

the teachers and administration staff

within the school. It is about fostering

a commitment to achieving the best

educational outcomes for the children.

The teaching and administration staff,

led by the principal can only achieve so

much on their own and the P & C acts

as an extension to their great work. They

ensure projects such as the purchase of air

conditioning, new classroom furniture

and lights on the multi-purpose courts

just to name a few. They also manage the

tuckshop, uniform shop, School Aged Care

Program and they drive fund raising

through events such as the annual fete.

My C ountryBy Dorothea Mackel lar

The love of f ield and coppice,Of green and shaded lanes.

Of ordered woods and gardensIs running in your veins,

Strong love of grey-blue distanceBrown streams and soft dim skies

I know but cannot share it ,My love is otherwise.

I love a sunburnt country,A land of sweeping plains,

Of ragged mountain ranges,Of droughts and f looding rains.

I love her far horizons,I love her jewel-sea,

Her beauty and her terror -The wide brown land for me!

A stark white ring-barked forestAl l tragic to the moon,

The sapphire-misted mountains,The hot gold hush of noon.

Green tangle of the brushes,Where lithe lianas coil ,

And orchids deck the tree-topsAnd ferns the warm dark soil.

C ore of my heart, my country! Her pitiless blue sky,

When sick at heart, around us,We see the cattle die -

But then the grey clouds gather,And we can bless again

The drumming of an army,The steady, soaking rain.

C ore of my heart, my country!Land of the Rainbow Gold,

For f lood and f ire and famine,She pays us back threefold -

Over the thirsty paddocks,Watch, after many days,

The f ilmy veil of greennessThat thickens as we gaze.

An opal-hearted country,A wilful, lavish land -

Al l you who have not loved her,You wil l not understand -

Though earth holds many splendours,Wherever I may die,

I know to what brown countryMy homing thoughts wil l f ly.

Get Yourself a COOL Rep! By Holding a ‘Real C ool‘ Aussie Icon COOEE!

It will all be happening at the fete. Join the Wild Rangers as

they take some of Australia’s coolest wildlife icons for a walk

around the fete.

There will be an abundance of wildlife including reptiles, mammals, invertebrates and birds. They are all comfortable with being around large crowds, which will allow everyone to have a real hands-on experience. For the bargain price of $2, attendees at the fete will be able to get a great photo opportunity. It could be handling a snake or,

more to the point, having the snakes handle you.

Let Cougar the Coastal Carpet Python, or Twistie the gorgeous Murray Darling Python slither over your arms, shoulders and through your fingers. But don’t let Crunch the crocodile give you a kiss, his bite really is worse than his bark!

If you don’t catch up with them as they wander the fete there will be a stand also for you to visit. At the stand you will be able to see all of the wildlife including: the Buddy

For just $2 you will be able to hold and be photographed with one of these ‘cool dudes’.

the Bearded Dragon, Stanley the Tawny Frogmouth and Kermit and Freddo the Green Tree Frog. There will also be other types of frogs and to put a sting in the tail of the event even some scorpions. Put a wildlife encounter on your fete to-do list and join rangers Amanda and Dionne, who have years of experience and a passion for wildlife.

Wild Rangers love spreading the conservation message and educating us about these amazingly beautiful creatures too. So make sure you come with loaded questions.

A snake? Perhaps a croc? All proceeds from these close encounters go to JSS.

Ordinary people doing extraordinary things

The State Emergency Service (SES) is a national organisation. Queensland SES consists of thousands of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds and professions who respond to emergencies across the state, 24/7. They are trained and equipped to help their communities across a range of functions, and their primary purpose is to assist the most vulnerable members of the community.

The SES is designed to empower people to help themselves and others in their community in times of emergency and disaster. The basic concept is one of self-help and mutual assistance within each community. (Image and text sourced from Emergency Services Queensland.)

The SES will be on hand to administer necessary first aid to patrons between 11 am and 3 pm.

Any Face Painters Out There? What’s a fete without a Face Painter? If you have the ability to paint pretty designs on the cutest of canvasses, then we need you. You don’t need to supply the paints or brushes; we’ll do that. All we need is your steady hand and magic touch. It would be great to have the stall available all day but if you can only do a few hours, that’s fine too. Perhaps there is a couple of you out there that can share it. So come on - how about it? How can you possibly say no to these little faces?

Page 9: The Dirt Issue 5

Our 4 year old found a door into a Fairy Woodland this morning. “Mummy! Look what I found in the garden!”

She asked “Is anyone at home? Fairy or Gnome?”

Ring the Bell, then you can tell...

Every Fairy Door is unique. Each door is a gateway to a world of magic imagination.

You can find Fairy Doors on sale at The Crafty Croc stall at the fete

There is no doubt about it - one of the highlights of the day is to see our students on stage.

Keep an eye on the entertainment program throughout the day so you don’t miss your child’s time in the limelight. There will be an official program and map distributed around the local community prior to the event and it will also be available on the day.

Be in it to win it. There will be prizes on fete day for the best dressed kid and the best dressed stall.

From our Site ConvenorsPLEASE GIVE OUR SITE CONVENORS GLENN JOHNSTON AND DAN MACKENZIE A HAND TO PICK UP, SET UP, CLEAN UP AND PACK UP. THIS IS A HUGE JOB FOR THESE GUYS AND THEY NEED ALL THE HELP THEY CAN GET.It’s all hands on deck for this one. A range of things need doing for the preparation and clean up of the site. From Thursday 28 August through to Monday 1 September, these guys need lots help with the following:

Thursday between 3pm and 6pm Collection of marquee tents from Centenary Rowing plus pick the up other borrowed and hired items

Friday between 8am and 7pm Are you free at all on Friday? Help is needed to pick up marquees from various locations around the suburbs and set them up on the oval.

Saturday between 8am and 9pm (The big day) Saturday morning we will continue to set up the site and will still need helpers. Prior to the fireworks all marquees need to be removed for the clear zone. This needs to be done as quickly as possible so all hands on deck would be appreciated.

Sunday between 8am and 12pm Sunday is clean up day. This is a BIG, BIG job, yet it can be knocked over quite quickly with many hands.

Please don’t assume that others will do this one. It’s one of the toughest jobs when there is not much help.

Many previous fetes this job has gone well beyond midday because of the lack of helpers. Let’s not see this happen again this year.

Monday between 8am and 12pm The return of much of the borrowed and hired equipment needs to happen on Monday.

So if you are able to assist with any of these times please contact Glenn Johnston: [email protected] or Louise Johnston: [email protected], 0421 160 075

Marquees NeededWe still need more marquees. If anyone has any marquees or knows of a business who could lend us marquees please contact Glenn Johnston: [email protected] or Louise Johnston: [email protected], 0421 160 075

The Dirt on Our Stats The general response has been overwhelmingly in support of the new format of an online magazine. There are just so many ways this format outweighs the previous printed method. First and foremost there is no way we could financially support nine, full colour, 24 page (average) issues in print. Secondly, print is mostly immeasurable. With the power of analytics this platform can provide detailed stats on how many are reading it, how long they are spending there, which pages they are spending most of their time reading and the cities where the readers are based. Naturally they are mostly from Brisbane but we do also have readers much further afield too.
