Dear Friends, Happy New Year! My hope and prayer for 2017 is that we become closer together as a parish community, and in the pro-cess, become closer to God. Thank you to all the people and ministries, who made Christmas here at OLL so special this year. Thank you Rich and the choir, for all the beautiful music at our Masses. You never

sounded so good! Thank you Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, Ush-ers, Greeters, and Altar Society Ladies. Without you, things wouldn’t have run as smoothly as they did. Thank you Patrick, Erin, and Allen: you truly are the heart and soul of OLL. Thank you Kathleen, Jen, Amy, Annie, Kathleen P., Sandro and all our catechists, for all you do in passing on the faith to our children. Thank you Spanish Commu-nity, for sharing your faith and culture with us. Thank you SVDP, Helping Hands and Rest Program People who help the poor and homeless in our Novato Commu-nity. Thank you K of C, for all you do to build up our OLL Community. If I missed a person or group, thank you for all you do from the bottom of my heart. God’s choicest blessings on all of us as we begin this New Year together. Happy Epiphany! Father Brian

THE STAR OF BETHLEHEM The unfolding of the story of the Incarnation con-tinues today as the Church celebrates the Epiphany. The tale of the magi from the East is one of the most fascinating in all of scripture. It has much to teach us about what we can come to expect, even in circum-stances and places that may seem insignificant or small. Bethlehem was a tiny town, what we might refer to today as a town without even one stop light. Yet it is over this seemingly insignificant place that the guiding star stops in its own search for the place where the Savior would be born. Too often we fail to recognize the fact that the star of Bethlehem comes to rest in our everyday lives, where we can experience God’s presence, manifested in ever new ways. Epiph-any calls us to shake off our stupor and recognize the One who comes to save us.

THANK YOU FROM HELPING HANDS FOR A SUCCESSFUL

2016 CHISTMAS OUTREACH

Helping Hands members wish to extend our sincere thanks to OLL Parishioners for your remarkable response to the 2016 Christmas Outreach campaign. Helping Hands received donations exceeding $24,000!!! Your donations allowed us to help 100 needy families, most of whom had children, celebrate Christ-mas with gift cards for food and presents. Each family also received a plate of beautifully decorated Christmas Cookies donated by Helping Hands members, and a Shepherds Ornament and Nativity Story provided by Our Lady of Loretto St. Vincent de Paul Conference. The families expressed heartfelt gratitude and joy as they received their gifts. Witnessing their thankfulness brought forth the true love and purpose of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Helping Hands is most grateful for your overwhelming generosity. We could not do this without each of you. You brought forth the true meaning of Christmas. May God send you all his blessings and peace in the coming year.

THE PROCLAMATION OF THE DATE OF EASTER ON EPIPHANY

Dear brothers and sisters: the glory of the Lord has shone upon us, and shall ever be manifest among us, until the day of his return. Through the rhythms of times and seasons let us cele-brate the mysteries of salvation. Let us recall the year’s culmination, the Easter Triduum of the Lord: his last supper, his cruci-fixion, his burial, and his rising celebrated between the evening of April 13th and the evening of April 16th. Each Easter— as on each Sunday— the Holy Church makes present the great and saving deed by which Christ has for ever conquered sin and death. From Easter are reckoned all the days we keep holy. Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, will occur on the 1st of March. The Ascension of the Lord will be commemorated on May 28th. Pentecost, the joyful conclusion of the season of Easter, will be celebrated on June 4th. And this year the First Sunday of Advent will be on the 3rd of December. Likewise the pilgrim Church proclaims the Passover of Christ in the feasts of the Holy Mother of God, in the feasts of the Apostles and Saints, and in the commemoration of the faithful de-parted.

To Jesus Christ, who was, who is, and who is to come, Lord of time and history, be endless praise, for ever and ever.

Amen.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! The Lord shines upon you and the glory of the Lord appears over you (Isaiah 60:1-6). Psalm — Lord, every nation on earth will adore you (Psalm 72). Second Reading — The Gentiles are coheirs, copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6). Gospel — Magi from the east arrive looking for the new-born king of the Jews (Matthew 2:1-12).
