ADVENT – CHRISTMASTIDE
Are We There Yet?
Advent means “coming”. This season marks the beginning of the year on the
Christian calendar. During Advent we look, prepare, and hope for the coming of
Christ. The Advent Wreath is made of greenery and fashioned in an unending circle
reminding us of eternity and God’s eternal love.
Last Sunday the Candle of Hope was lighted. The prophets long spoke of
man’s hope in a Messiah. We can’t live without hope. This Sunday we light the Candle
of Love. The true message of the Bible is For God so loved the world that He gave His only
Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish but may have eternal life. John 3:16
(NRSV) God loves us. God loves You!
As I write these words it is late Tuesday evening and our Church Home has
hosted the Christmas meal for the local fire fighters’ families. They were a beautiful
sight to see. Some had their family portraits made by the Christmon tree.
There are many angels and shepherds silently at work within and outside the
walls of the Church. Slip into the sanctuary, fellowship hall, or church parlor and see
where these quiet and good hearts have been busy being God’s servants.
Please invite, encourage, and bring others to worship this Advent and
Christmastide.
The sermon series moving toward Christmas is Are We There Yet? The Scripture
messages center on Hope, Love, Joy, Peace, and Christ, followed by What Do We Do
Next?

Our Hearts are ON Fire!
We had an amazing Winter Retreat filled with worship and fellowship this past
weekend in Pigeon Forge TN. We are so grateful to have a1ended the Hearts on Fire
Youth Conference with Ma1hew West, Rend Collec<ve, and Crowder along with
na<onally known speakers. The message that permeated each session was one of
worthiness and the confidence we find in Christ Jesus. This is the gi= we receive simply
by being real - Jesus just wants the truth of our hearts in exchange for...well...HIM. For
teenagers (and most of the rest of us) geBng real seems risky; no one wants to chance
the vulnerability of seeming weak, awkward, or different from the “in crowd” when the
truth be known...we all feel this way at some <me or another. We are all so much more
alike than we are different yet all uniquely created for God’s good purpose.
The conference was awesome but my favorite <me together was during our
‘cabin worship’. God was present each <me we were able to simply circle up and share
scripture, inspired messages, and open hearted prayer. Gabbie, Maggie A, and Ashton
led us in praise preparing our hearts for worship. We had topic talks led by Alex, Zane,
and Maggie A which further encouraged everyone to get real and remain in the real
embrace of grace. Finally, there was no greater fuel for the fire of our hearts than the
deep and meaningful personal tes<monies shared by Maggie W., Ruby, and Caitlyn.
These ladies had the courage to open their hearts wide and inspired such a sincere
sharing among everyone.
God had a plan for each student who signed up and then showed up with an
open heart and a willing spirit and I am super proud of all our Conference going
believers in Christ. By the close of the conference about half of our group made public
professions of re-commitment to Christ and the remaining students are fired up with
hearts overflowing with God’s love and life.
With thanksgiving may we rekindle our hearts to be on fire for Christ daily and
encourage others to keep it real...cause God it the real deal and Jesus is the truth, the
way, and the life.
Blessings, Hardin

A Mercy Minute
Thanksgiving Day has come and gone but
an aBtude of gra<tude lives on daily for those in
Chris<an Recovery. We are thankful for sobriety,
health, and family which at one point in life
seemed a distant hope. This week at Mercy Place,
Tara Abner will share her tes<mony of God’s
restora<ve grace re-gi=ing her opportuni<es as a
mother, believer, and Child of God. What the
locusts of addic<on, despair, and shame have
taken...God returns with ample love and full living!
Blessings, Hardin
