Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen!

The great season of Easter continues for fifty days, giving us the vital opportunity to contemplate the radical meaning of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and what it means for each and every one of us. “If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. … If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:14, 17). These words of St. Paul, written soon after Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection, say it all. Eye-witnesses have passed on their personal testimony to us. We cannot remain unchanged.

Faith in this incredible mystery has to be nourished. I’ve often said that if I were a physician, I would prescribe for most spiritual ailments the Novena to the Holy Spirit.

Do you need more patience? (Who doesn’t?!) Do you want real peace in your heart? How about joy? Love? Self-control? Courage? Do you want to know what to do in difficult times? Then pray this magnificent novena to the Holy Spirit. All these things and more are the free gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, so often overlooked by us believers.

The word “novena” means “nine” and refers to the nine intervening days between Jesus’ Ascension into heaven and the day of Pentecost fifty days after the Resurrection. Saint Luke tells us that, at the Lord’s direction, the Apostles were gathered in prayer, together with the Blessed Virgin Mary (see Acts 1:14; 2:1-11). Thus, this novena to the Holy Spirit is the oldest and mother of all novenas. Addressed to the Third Person of the Most Blessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light, strength, and love of God so sorely needed by every Christian. We will be praying this novena as a parish beginning Friday, May 13, through Saturday, May 22. A booklet with the prayers will be included in the bulletin in time to start the novena. Come, Holy Spirit!

We continue to bring some familiar things back to the Mass. The next thing to return to our Masses in English will be the Offertory hymn. Since there is a limited amount of room in the printed paper orders of worship (the “ordos”), we will soon have to transition the readings from the ordos back to missalettes, which are already in the pews. As a reminder, the CDC and WHO have pointed out for many months that a person does not catch COVID-19 from surfaces or water (e.g., holy water).

Finally, congratulations to our over 100 young men and women who recently received Sacraments, both their first Holy Communion and Confirmation. Please pray for them as they strive to remain faithful witnesses to the Lord.

Let us pray for each other, Father Wilson

(¡¿Quién no ?!) ¿Quieres paz real en tu corazón? ¿Qué tal la alegría? ¿amor? ¿auto control? ¿fortaleza?

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Dear Parents of K – 5th graders 1. May challenge – get to know and imitate Mary. The Church honors Mary during May. This week imitate Mary by visiting someone who needs support. Mary went “in haste” to visit Elizabeth when the angel told her that Elizabeth was pregnant, and Mary stayed for several months. Take time this week to make a visit. Stay a bit, accept a glass of tea and chat. The isolation of this past year has been very hard on many people, and they crave personal interaction. You don’t need to do anything but be there and be friendly. Remember that when you care for the needy, you are caring for Christ. 2. Continue working on your CCD/Catechism books 3. Looking Ahead: Totus Tuus week is July 26-30. More information will be in the bulletin closer to this exciting catechetical program for youth in grades 1 – 6. Older volunteers (7th grade – adults) are needed as well. 4. Take advantage of FORMED: It has all sorts of fabulous programing. Not on FORMED? Sra.

Regístrese en www.formed.org/signup, ingrese a Aiken, SC, luego elija St. mary Help of Christians.

2021 — the Year of St. Joseph

Venerable Pope Pius XII wrote “If Joseph was so engaged, heart and soul, in protecting and providing for that little family at Nazareth, don’t you think that now in Heaven he is the same loving father and guardian of the whole Church, of all its members, as he was of its Head on earth?” To think about: Joseph protected and cared for Jesus Christ. We are part of the body of Christ, so surely St. Joseph cares for us just as he cared for Jesus. Include Joseph in your daily prayers this week, and talk to him as you would a father.

Bringing the faith into the

home, The Domestic Church

Read today’s 1st reading about Saul (better known as Paul) as he begins to share the gospel. Acts 9:26-31. The Christians didn’t trust Saul until his friend Barnabas got involved. Talk about a time that you were misunderstood, and how that felt. Think about how we can help others who are misunderstood. Yesterday May 1st was the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, plus it is the year of St. Joseph. Make an effort to get to know St. Joseph more. And don’t forget it’s still the Easter Season – end all your prayers with Alleluia!
