New Year Message: As 2014 comes to a

close, it helps to look back over the year

and what we have learned from it. As

patients or families dealing with a cancer

diagnosis - the need to "Grow strong at

the broken places" as Hemingway wrote;

is essential. And as Albert Schweitzer

once said: "Illness never stayed with me

too long - I was too inhospitable a host"

reflects the need to strengthen one's host

resistance.

Never give up, be prepared to make

changes and accept responsibility for the

consequences. However long this one

precious life that is yours continues - be

prepared to live every minute of it. Be

spirited yet soulful. Be gracious and heal

with gratitude. Find a passion to rekindle

Thanks to the skill and nimble hands

of my Singapore Surgeon and the

smaller more intelligent neuro-

stimulating device he surgically

replaced in October 2014; my health

has never been better. Travelling is

now easier and my mobility has

improved 10-fold!

We have heard rumours that my

poor health has prevented

continuation of our trips to Germany.

Not so - cancelling referrals and

medical issues as well as a greater

need from GGI for cooperation

and implementation of improvements

in systems and processes that would

benefit our clients. We always try to

Sunscreen contains one or both of the following types of active ingredients: FYI - Chemical absorbers absorb UV radiation and stop it reaching your skin. They can irritate and even cause allergies, but of deeper concern is their role as endocrine disruptors & skin penetration enhancers (which have implications for people in contact with other chemicals, such as agricultural pesticides.

Why the concern about nanoparticles ?

Several years ago, Colorbond painted roofing showed accelerated deterioration in fingerprint-shaped patches. Sunscreen used by builders was suspected, and research published by Colorbond manufacturer BlueScope Steel in 2008 confirmed that certain nanoparticles in titanium dioxide-based sunscreens were the culprit.

Other lab tests have indicated that nanoparticles of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide may create free radicals that cause damage to cellular DNA and mitochondria, particularly in the presence of UV light. Free radical damage may also lead to cancer. So if it’s destroying painted surfaces and DNA, should we be putting it on our skin?

bottled water found 38 pollutants in 10

brands of bottled water, including by-

Just because it's natural doesn't mean it's safe! As a qualified expert in Botanical medicine I am often amazed by the overuse of potent botanical products such as essential oils. “You should never assume that any particular essential oil has the exact same medicinal properties as its original plant form…they are so concentrated, & they can work very differently." FYI - Oils used in aromatherapy treatments can release chemicals that react in the air to produce a 'mist' of pollutants that damage your airways. Results of studies state that the extracts – used in baths, massages or burned in rooms react with the air to produce tiny irritant particles.

Researchers found that when the so-called essential oils were used in relaxation spas for massages, the concentration of these potentially harmful particles increased tenfold. The scientists said that certain chemicals in the oils, called volatile organic compounds, mix with the air to form secondary organic aerosols. Less is more with essential oils. The British method of aromatherapy advocates that essential oils should always be diluted with a carrier when applied topically. FYI - One drop of essential oil is roughly the equivalent of 75 cups of herbal tea (hubpages.com; Tea, L.).

Healing OILS AS A CANCER TREATMENT? Are you ingesting potentially toxic oils? With aromatherapy's growing popularity there has been an increase in the amount of lethal cases of essential oil overdose & poisoning. Modern demands for instant gratification are now erroneously being applied to healthcare, wellness, and cosmetics. There now exist multilevel marketing companies that distribute essential oils along with their proprietary oil blends. These companies are advocating oral ingestion of their products, claiming that ingestion of essential oils is safe and will cure illness & disease, and even promote weight loss.

These claims are not backed by clinical data. Some of the popular ingredients in those dangerous blends are nutmeg and peppermint. There are two specific articles that are included in the literature cited section, “Nutmeg Poisoning” and “A Near Fatal Case of High Dose Peppermint Oil Ingestion – Lessons Learnt”, as overdose information.
