Cooperative Solar launch highlights 79th Annual Meeting GreyStone members began capturing their share of the sun by signing up for Cooperative Solar at GreyStone’s 79th Annual Meeting of Members. A total of 279 mem-bers signed up for solar, reported President/CEO Gary Miller to members at the meeting. More than 1,200 GreyStone Power members plus their fami-lies attended the meeting Oct. 8. Members gathered at the co-op’s Douglasville office for the festivi-ties, which included a Solar Energy Expo, vendors and a Health Fair. The amusement area kept families busy with inflatables for children, games, balloon artists and face painters. Children had the chance to learn about using electricity safely when employees presented interactive “Safety City” demonstrations. They also learned how to avoid injuries by visiting the “Safe Kids” tent. Members enjoyed a free Chick-fil-A® biscuit while they listened to a musical performance from Gram-my-nominated John Ford Coley.

This year’s Solar Energy Expo included solar energy seminars pre-sented by GreyStone’s Residential Energy Services department. During the business portion of the meeting, Miller reported on the co-op’s achievements for the past year, including pioneering Cooperative Solar and the recent Public Service Commission survey showing that Georgia Power cus-tomers pay 30 percent more than GreyStone members for 1,500 kilo-watt hours monthly, which is the average usage for members during the summer. Also, during the business meet-ing members present elected Lucy Andres, Jennifer DeNyse and David Hagenow by voice vote to represent their respective districts. Andres replaced Ed Garrard, who retired at the Annual Meeting and was honored for his contribu-tions. GreyStone’s board officers were elected, including Chair Mil-ton Jones, Vice Chair Maribeth Wansley and Secretary-Treasurer Jim Johns.

The event concluded with 47 door prizes, including GreyStone bill credits and a 40-inch smart television. The grand-prize giveaway was a 2003 Chevrolet Silvera-do 1500 truck retired from the GreyStone fleet, which was won by Melissa King.
