8:00 AM Mass St. Peter Joe Eckert

In the gospel for Sunday, Jesus tells his disciples, “What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.” It’s clear from these words that Jesus did not intend faith or religion to be a “private matter.” If sharing your faith is difficult, begin by making a daily prayer to the Holy Spirit. And, as pastor, I will discern promoting St. Paul Street Evangelization as a tool for those who want to take one further step in sharing their faith.

Jesus’s exhortation to “proclaim on the housetops,” also refers to how we conduct ourselves in society—to live according to the beliefs and teachings of Jesus. Increasingly, those who out of love and conviction seek to order their businesses around the teachings of Christ risk legal consequences. In response, the bishops of the United States called for the first Fortnight for Freedom in 2012, and have called for its observance again this year from June 21–July 4. It is always at the end of June to include the feasts of Sts. Thomas More and John Fischer, and of Sts. Peter and Paul, and to culminate in our celebration of Independence Day, recognizing free exercise of religion as a core tenet of our freedom and independence. I encourage you to pray for freedom of conscience and freedom of religion during those days and to join for the pastoral region Mass at St. Peter’s on July 4 at 9 AM. After Mass, watch the parade—or better still, join Butler County Right to Life at the fairgrounds to march in the parade.

St. Peter in Chains celebrated their patronal feast this Sunday (St. Peter and Paul) in place of the regular Sunday prayers.

St. Joseph Pastoral Council will meet on Wednesday at 7 PM in the parish office/rectory.

What a joy to know, love, and serve the good God.

Patronal Feast Day at St. Peter in Chains On Sunday, June 25, St. Peter in Chains will celebrate its patronal feast day: the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, disciples. On the liturgical calendar it is observed on June 29 in honor of their martyrdom in Rome Prayer: O holy Apostles, Peter and Paul, intercede for us. Protect, O Lord, your people who trust in the patronage of your Apostles, Peter and Paul, and by their constant protection protect your people. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Fr. Mike for 12 years here at St. Julie’s: You have rejoiced with us in times of great happiness. You have stood with us in times of trials. You gently corrected us when we had strayed from the path. You have wrapped your arms around us in times of great sorrow.

You were there to lead us during the darkest parts of our journey. You have ministered to our souls and gave us encouragement to press on. Thank you for the dedication you have shown to the Lord and to our parish. Fr. Mike, as the story of your life opens to the next chapter, May the God of Grace richly bless and watch over you. May the God of Peace grant you peace always, and May the God of Abundant Joy shower you daily.
