From the Principal’s Desk:
Volunteers Needed for Testing Season
It is hard to believe that we will start the 4th quarter of the year this month (March 25th) and that FSA assessments
will begin shortly after! We are happy that the FSA testing days will be greatly reduced this year as all children will
once again be tested all at the same time using a paper/pencil format. Our 4th and 5th graders will take the Writing
assessment on April 2, followed by 3rd grade Reading on April 4 and 5. The balance of testing for these grades will
be in early May. You can help by volunteering to PROCTOR for these tests. You will be strictly an observer and
would not be scheduled for your own child’s classroom. To sign up, please click here:

Yearbooks Are Available For Order Now
This year Hartley is offering an opportunity to purchase the school yearbooks in advance. This is your opportunity to
reserve a yearbook for your son or daughter. Please look for an order form to come home with your child. The cost
of the Hartley Yearbook is $15- and advanced orders may be placed online with Leonard’s Studio. Parents may also
return their order forms to Hartley and we will forward them to Leonard’s. As always, we order a good supply of
yearbooks which arrive at the end of the year and are sold while supplies last.

SUMMER MARINE SCIENCE PROGRAM
Parents,
Applications for the summer Marine Science Program will be passed out by science teachers at all
schools during the week of February 11th. Applications will be due back to science teachers by March
5th. Applications can also be downloaded at any time from the website prior to April 12th at
http://www-grms.stjohns.k12.fl.us/ and click on the Marine Science link. The link also will have a
complete day by day curriculum for each grade level, parent information, and a video from last year’s
program.
This summer program is available to all students currently in grades five through seven and has been
sponsored by the school district since 1982. Three eight day sessions are held at Gamble Rogers Middle
School with bus transportation provided. The dates for the three sessions this summer will be May 29st
through June 7th, June 10th through June 20th, and June 24th through July 3rd. Small classes of 12-14
students are separated by grade level. All instructors in the program are St. Johns County School
District teachers.
The Marine Science Program is a carefully designed experience for responsible students who are
interested in learning about our local marine environments. Learning is “hands on” in the field with
students kayaking, canoeing, boating, hiking, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, surfing, SUP, (stand up
paddleboarding), etc. Specific grade level activities and curriculum are attached to the applications and
are also available from the website.
More information about the program can be had by emailing Kristina Bransford at
