South Harrison High School

held their annual Prom at the

4-H Center beside Rt. 19 on

May 11th, 2013. The Prom

was paid for and decorated

by the Junior class of South

Harrison High School. The

Junior class designed and

decorated the building very

well. The decorations were

based off the theme, “An

Enchanted Fairytale.”

While at the dance, there

was a wide variety of music

and snacks. (S/O to Mr.

Skiviat for pouring drinks!)

The night started off very

quickly, many of the people

attending the dance were

there an hour or so before it

even started. Many of the

senior and junior class offi-

cers attended the dance the

earliest, which is a great way

to show support of your

class.

In the middle of the dance,

the DJ introduced the Prom

Court of 2013. After brief

introductions, the court

chose their queen; it was

senior Darryan Ward. Her

King was senior Spencer

Shriver. The dance ended at

11:00 pm, and overall was a

big success. Everyone who

attended the dance received

a party favor as well.

an excellent rating.

Mary Kate Riffle, Samantha

evening’s activities which

included the processional,

suffered a great loss to Notre Dame on Thursday, May 9 which tossed them out of a chance at regionals. In total they lost 17 games and won 10 games. Head Coach Frank Tate commented “we are young and we are building for the future.” He also added “there are 16 returning ball players for next season.”

By Jordan Martin

The 19 players on the baseball team of 2013 had a decent season of base-ball. In their last couple weeks of the season they played about 3 teams and they lost- but previous to that, they were doing okay. Sectionals allowed the team to remain hopeful; however, the Hawks

had to win two more games and then they get to go to states! These past few weeks had been very excit-ing and nerve-wracking for both baseball and softball teams here at SHHS. How-ever, last Thursday they played their game at Moore-field and lost 8-0. And now the softball season this year is over. It wasn’t a bad year

after all. They did their best and tried their hardest. Un-fortunately, SHHS’s softball team did not make it to states like they had hoped to, but they had a very good season despite some set-backs.

By Emilee Underwood

SHHS softball has had a pretty good softball season this year. They have 12 play-ers on their team. Two weeks ago they had a good game against Notre Dame. They won 13-0 in Sectionals and had been practicing hard all last week to prepare for their big game against Tygart's Valley. They only

qualified for the mile run; Austin

Barker in the high jump, and Asa

Ricketts in the 200m. Congratulations

to all the boys and girls track teams

for the trip to states and their great

improvement over the course of the

season. Coach Pancoast was im-

track team has many coaches and

those coaches are Mrs. Felicia Pan-

are also many student participants

boys and girls of all ages. Starting

with the freshmen. Freshmen boys are

Chase Jenkins and Austin Barker.

Sophomore boys are Asa Ricketts,

Chance Reed, Dylan Blake, and

Garrett Wilkins. Dylan Blake is said

to be the most improved from last

years team. The lone junior track

member is Kendra Myers. The two

He is no stranger to the Lincoln H.S.

Community. He was the head football

coach at LHS for nearly 10 years.

Mr. Lopez is a resident of Lumberport

and a father of four children. He is

looking forward to working in his own

community. He told the local paper

that he is excited, happy, and sad all

at the same time.

South Harrison faculty and staff are

not surprised by his decision to take

the opportunity to work in the school

system of his own community.

Students of SHHS are still processing

the fact that he will be leaving and a

new administrator will be taking his

place sometime during this summer.

South Harrison High School will have a

new principal starting this fall.

Changes like this occur all over Harri-

son County each school year.

South Harrison High School Principal

James Lopez will be taking the lead

administration position at Lincoln High

School. Harrison County Superinten-

dent, Susan Collins hopes to immedi-

ately fill the vacant principal position

at SHHS.

Mr. Lopez started at SHHS as an assis-

tant principal in 2008 and was then

named principal in 2009-10. He

taught at Gore Middle School for more

than 10 years and at Mountaineer

Middle School for several years.

This year’s juniors, Class of 2014 , will

probably be the most affected by his

departure. Many have commented

that they would have liked to have Mr.

Lopez as their principal during their

last year of high school. We say thank

you and all the best in your new posi-

tion.
