SOLEMNITY OF MARY, MOTHER OF GOD
Why do Catholics honor Mary as Mother of God? Simple: Jesus is the son of Mary. Jesus is God. Therefore, Mary is the Mother of God. On this holy feast day, we take a moment as we start our new year to honor our Blessed Mother,
who in her “yes” to God brought our Savior into the world to redeem us. Lost & Found Tip: Jesus says on the cross, “Behold your Moth-er” (John 19:27). As we all jump into the frenzy of the new year and start attempting to bring our resolutions to fruition, let us call on the aid of our Mother Mary to give us the strength to draw closer to her Son every day this year.
In 1973 Supreme Court cases, Roe v. Wade
and Doe v. Bolton, legalized abortion-on-
demand in our country. Since then over
60 million lives have been lost to abortion,
the greatest injustice of our time. The March for Life is Friday,
January 24th, 2020. St. Ann’s will host a service and join in
prayer with those walking in Washington, D.C. A Holy Hour
of Prayer will be on Thursday evening, Jan. 23rd at
6:00pm with a pot luck supper following. Please contact
Debbie Morris at 518-747-7971 or at [email protected]
for details. We hope to have a great prayerful presence at St.
Ann’s for The March for Life and to save unborn babies.

The History of 'The Twelve Days of Christmas'
The song, "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is an English Christmas carol. From 1558 un-til 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning
plus a hidden meaning known only to members of the Church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reali-ty which the children could remember. The "True Love" one hears in the song is not a smitten boy or girlfriend but Jesus Christ, because truly Love was born on Christmas Day. The partridge in the pear tree also represents Him because that bird is willing to sacrifice its life if necessary to protect its young by feigning injury to draw away preda-tors. According to Ann Ball in her book, HANDBOOK OF CATHO-LIC SACRAMENTALS:
The two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments The three French hens stood for faith, hope, and love. The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew,
Mark, Luke, and John. The five golden rings represented the first five books of
the Old Testament, which describe man's fall into sin and the great love of God in sending a Savior.
The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation. Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts
of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhorta-tion, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes. Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit. The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments. The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful
Apostles. The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve
points of belief in The Apostles' Creed.

the Sacred Heart, and begin
again with joy.” -St. Mother

Him better, to love Him more, and to center our lives
around the Eucharist, that is, to make our whole life a constant
prayer of adoration, thanksgiving, reparation, and petition to Our
Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Amen.” -St. Peter Julian Eymard

Weekly Confession Quotation
“Just as an animal becomes a stronger beast of burden and more beautiful to behold the more often and better it is fed, so too confession - the more often it is used and the
more carefully it is made as to both lesser and greater sins - conveys the soul increasingly forward and is so pleasing to God that it leads the soul to God's very heart.” -Revelations of St. Bridget
Please see front cover for times of healing.
PASTORAL REFLECTION
Because Joseph had been warned in a dream, he departed for the region of Galilee. He went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, “He shall be called a Nazorean.” (Matthew 2:22-23)
When I asked our tour guide “Sam” (Basim) in the Holy Land where his favorite place was, he chose the region of Galilee, because it is so peaceful there. Even though much of the Middle East is chaotic, it is relatively serene in the home region of the Holy Family—Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. The tranquility of their home seems to have given a lasting grace to that idyllic part of the Holy Land. Our home lives can feel just as chaotic as the conflicts in the Middle East, but the Lord offers families a better, peaceful alternative. Imagine the graces Joseph received
from living in the presence of Jesus and Mary, receiving their love and loving them in return with his whole heart. Although none of Joseph’s words are recorded in Sacred Scripture, perhaps he was so quiet because he was brimming inside with peace and deep joy from the love of God, and we can receive similar graces through devotion to Jesus and Mary.
This Sunday is the celebration of the Holy Family, who not only reveal the possibility of domestic tranquillity but also pray to God for us to receive God’s peace, through His Divine Mercy. And when we receive God’s mercy in Reconciliation and Penance (Confession), we are indebted to Him to share that mercy with others. As St. Paul writes to the Colossians in today’s second reading, we should always offer “heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another…As the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do.”
Peace in Jesus through Mary,
"How easy it was to pray in that little church! I remembered all the graces that I had received there, and which I had not understood at the time...I wondered how I could have been so blind.” (St. Faustina visiting her childhood parish, Diary, n. 400)
OUR ADORERS’ TESTIMONIES
“My personal experience with the Lord in Adoration has sometimes been very ordinary and other times totally awesome. I love it when I am alone with Him and we can talk.”
Weekly Scripture Passage
“My spirit finds joy in God my savior.” Luke 1:47
