Dear Friends,

Within these pages are snapshots of the life-saving work you make possible. As you read about Fenway, the Malamute who endured an unimaginable existence and now has a loving family of his own, please know this is one of the thousands of stories your support makes possible. Seeing animals like Fenway going home is why I love walking into the Humane Society every day. I know this is the reason you continue to give generously.

Just around the corner is another great opportunity to help our animals! The best night in Boulder will be happening on April 27th as we all gather to celebrate at this year’s Puttin’ On The Leash! I hope you will join me and our event chair, Scott Walker, as we transform the Coors Event Center into Animals in Wonderland! Scott and his wife Val will be our host and hostess for an evening of fantastic restaurants and libations, an amazing auction—and of course dozens of animals who represent the mission of our organization.

Scott and Val’s connection to the Humane Society began decades ago when they adopted Bozo the cat from us. Bozo lived to be 21 and was the head of the house — as any cat should be. They share their life now with Gracie, an eight-year-old year old Corgi who is full of cuteness. This evening is not only the most enjoyable fundraiser in town (okay, so I am little biased); it also raises critical resources that make programs like those helping Fenway possible. Please join Scott, Val and me in making it a success for the animals we serve.

Volunteers Make it Possible

Visit our Sonnyside Retail Store on a Thursday evening and you’ll find volunteer Deb Ross. Since 2009 Deb has provided great client service to everyone who visits the store seeking the perfect item for their beloved pet. Deb keeps the store organized and trains new volunteers. She recently moved into a leadership role, making sure the store meets the needs of all our clients and their pets. Thanks, Deb, for extending our resources and making a difference.

He survived conditions we can hardly imagine. No water or food, living off his own feces, a victim of one of the worst animal abuse cases in the history of the United States.

Fenway was born into a breeder’s kennel in Montana. Along with 160 other purebred Alaskan Malamutes, he was hungry, scared, and helpless. Many of his siblings didn’t make it.

Near death, Fenway and the others were rescued by officials in Montana. They were housed at the Lewis and Clark Humane Society until the court proceedings ended. The kennel’s owner was recently sentenced to 90 counts of animal cruelty.

Because of the generosity of our supporters, we offered to help some of these special needs dogs. When Fenway arrived at our shelter, he was eager to interact with people, friendly,

and responsive. According to our Chief Shelter Veterinarian Dr. Lesli Groshong, Fenway was healthy. “He must be a resilient dog to survive so well,” she said.

Brooke Wilkinson and Ian Resler were seeking a special dog to complete their home. “As soon as Brooke saw Fenway on the website, she went to visit him and fell in love,” Ian said. “His personality really came through…his smile, the way he looked at us. It was amazing. Then we heard about his past. We knew he was for us.”

So Fenway went to his new home, far from his inhumane beginnings. He’s now loved and cared for, a cherished member of the family. Fenway’s new journey is just beginning. He is home.
