    News from this week

Our students have excelled in the last week on the sporting field! We have had our Year 5/6 Netball girls head to Dubbo and leave with all the chocolates! They performed exceptionally well and Mrs Wilson has not stopped singing their praises upon their return.

Kai, Damian and Josh also played very well in their Riverina U/15 trial game in Narrandera. Both Kai and Damian were selected to compete in the State Championships in Albury in early June. Awesome!

Our cross country has been run and won for another year! At the time of publication, results were not known. But I wish all the competitors who represent our school at the Lower Lachlan X-Country the very best of luck!

Don’t forget our Mother’s Day Stall! Tomorrow at recess our P&C will have many special items on sale for one of the special people in your life! The prices of all items are between $1 and $5, so I’m sure you’ll pick something up that grabs your eye!

This week has been an absolute blur.

On Monday morning I was offered the Relieving Principal position at Lavington Public School in Albury and have accepted it. As I hope you can imagine, it has been a very emotional process for me in making this decision, but in the end, I feel that this is the right decision for my family and provides me with another fantastic opportunity in my career. The position has been offered for the remainder of the year.

It’s with great difficulty I need to say goodbye for now. Ungarie Central has been my second home for a long time and the students and staff have moulded me into the leader and person that I am today. I could not be more thankful.

Our whole school community was informed yesterday about the change in staff for the short term. Any decisions affecting the long term staffing at the school will be made public as they are known. Our school is in very safe hands. I have no doubt Mrs Payne and the team will ensure the rest of 2016 will be a success.

    See you all soon!

    Week 2, Term 2

    mailto:[email protected]

  • Yr 9/10 Commerce

Yr 9/10 will be creating a recipe book, to be completed by the end of Term 3.

It would be greatly appreciated if ALL students could bring in their favourite

    recipes to be published.

We also welcome recipes from community members.

Recipes can be left at the front office with your child’s name

so we can give them the credit.

(by the end of this term please)

    Thank you!

Welcome to our first Primary News for Term 2. It was fantastic to see happy and smiling faces back at school last week ready for learning!

    NAPLAN

Next week students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 will sit the NAPLAN assessments. The timetable is as follows: Tuesday – Language Conventions and Writing Wednesday – Reading Thursday - Numeracy Students involved in NAPLAN will be treated to lollies and a sausage sizzle on each day of the assessments.

Sport Last Thursday the Yr 5/6 PSSA Netball team played in the Dubbo area knockout. After a huge day of netball they came out winners on the day. What an outstanding effort! The girls will now play Calare PS who were the winners of the Orange area knockout. The girls will continue to train until their game in Dubbo on the 19th May.

Head Lice There have been some cases of head lice in the school recently. Please check your child’s hair for head lice regularly and treat as necessary. The Nitbusters checks will be held this term. Please ensure notes have been signed and returned.

Changes in Term 2 Mr Davies sent a letter home with students yesterday outlining the changes to staff in Term 2. Please be assured that learning will remain the number one priority of the school and all efforts will be made to ensure there is as little disruption as possible. We will welcome a new face to the school next week. Miss Rebecca Smith will be teaching in the primary area every Wednesday and Thursday.

All students and staff are sad to see Mr Davies leave the school for the remainder of the year. We wish him well as he begins his new adventure in Albury in his role as Relieving Principal at Lavington Public School. He will certainly be missed at Ungarie Central School!

Club Results: Last weekend the “shooters” arrived for their annual shoot at the rifle range. They enjoyed their meals on the Friday night and a hearty

breakfast on Sunday morning. On Saturday, Pat Turner, Lloyd Pearson and Jeff deRozario travelled to Ardlethan for their official opening of the new clubhouse. The day was well represented by the local

community with the Ungarie boys being the only represented Club. The State President of

Bowls NSW, Vince Beard was also in attendance. A social game of bowls, light

refreshments and light entertainment, was the order of the day.

On Sunday morning, the Semi Finals of the Southern Slopes President’s Singles were

played, with Jeff deRozario playing-off in the morning against an opponent from Temora. In

a hard fought game, with only a couple of shots in it, Jeff was able to progress to the

final in the afternoon where he had a relatively good win. Final score was 31-13. Jeff now plays off for the zone at Young.

  • ANZAC DAY

On Friday 29th April our school ANZAC service was held. Thank you to Sergent Mick Feidler for being our guest speaker. Wreaths were laid by Sergent Mick Feidler for the Defence Forces, Wally Wales and Phil Rogan from the Ungarie RSL Sub Branch, Emma McRae from UCS P&C, Pat Daly from the religious educators and the school captains.

During the service Angus Williams played ‘The Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’ on the trumpet and Hannah Wilson, Caitlin Rossiter, Lara Bryant, Kate Jackson and Chloe Brewer read ‘The Poppy’ by Anderw Plant.

Sarah O’Connor was presented with the Reg Rattey VC award for the student at Ungarie Central School who demonstrates resilience, the ability to arise amongst a situation of adversity, determination and courage. All of which are qualities that Reg Rattey demonstrated throughout his life and his campaign at Bouganville. This award was presented by Mr Rob Rattey and Mr Brett Davies.

Students, staff and visitors then enjoyed a sausage sizzle lunch.

Ungarie Central School marching band provided the music for the town march on ANZAC day. Many students and staff represented the school in the march. The band then performed throughout the service with the school captains’ laying a wreath and reading the roll of honour.

  • What a stellar performance from our senior primary netball team on Thursday 28th April at Dubbo! The girls won the first round against West Wyalong last term to progress to this day. They then won the first 4 rounds of this knockout and made it to the final round of the day. All girls played extremely well and gave 110% in every game. You are to be congratulated on your efforts and behaviour, both on and off the court.

    Round 2 Ungarie V Condobolin 27-7

    Round 3 Ungarie V Narromine 20-12

    Round 4 Ungarie V Forbes North 19-12

The girls came up against some stiff competition from Cudgegong in the final game of the day. It was a nail-biter and came down to the wire. Ungarie were 5 up when they took to the court in the final quarter. Cudgegong charged home but some steady play in the centre third and accurate shooting, saw Ungarie up by one when the timer buzzed. Ungarie won the final of the Divisional day 18-17. Congratulations girls!

A very special thankyou to Justine Henley for umpiring on the day and to the parents that travelled the long journey to Dubbo.

The girls will now travel to Dubbo again on the 19th May to meet Calare in the grand final for Western Region. They will also be trialling for selection in the Western team. Good luck!
