The first long course meet of the season is always a great starting point for where you are in train-ing, skills and endurance. We saw lots of great swims from Matt, Tia, Tayah and Aglae on

the weekend. Remind yourself that even if you didn't go a best time or a swim you had hoped for, reflect on the skills that you can improve on now until the next meet in May! There is always room for change, it's never too late.

Nanaimo Spring Sprint (April 22-23)

Recap This past weekend ISC went to Nanaimo for some long course races. ISC had over 80 swimmers at the swim meet. For the younger swimmers, this swim meet was one of their first long course experience, which is really exciting. For other swim-mers, it was another great opportunity to put in action what they have been working on during practices, during some goal setting sessions and more. Many swimmers crushed their swims and got some awesome best times that qualified them for AA/AAA and VIR.

It was a long 2 sessions meet, and all the swimmers stayed focused and gave their best in the pool during their races.

We did a big group activation led by all the ISC coaches, in order to get the team spirit going!! That was really fun.

Thank you to all the parents for their patience this past weekend and a big Bravo to all swimmers who raced their heart out and left this swim meet more accom-plished. Next stop, is the Comox 10 and under meet and the Medley Challenge.

2017 Westerns Canadian Championships Recap

Last week ISC swimmers traveled to beautiful Calgary for West-ern Canadian Championships.

ISC had 51 individual finals, 5 individual medalists, and 1 relay medal! Every ISC swimmer made a final - that is phenomenal! 6 boys and girls relay teams, including 1 mixed relay, finished in the top 8 with our boys 4x100 Free squad posting the 6th fast-est time in Canada so far this year. Matthew Clavelle picked up his Canadian Junior Championship qualification in the 100m Breaststroke, allowing him to compete at CJC's this summer in Toronto. Brian Ni and Zoe Hunt-St.Louis picked up their Canadi-an Swimming Championship qualification in the 50m Free and 100m Backstroke respectively, punching their tickets to CSC in Montreal this August. Island Swimming Club finished 5th overall and 2nd amongst the BC teams at the meet!

Our swimmers built their energy throughout the meet to finish in spectacular fashion. It was great seeing this young team come together, move together, and support one another on the National stage.

Congratulations to all our swimmers who competed at Western Championships!

Special thanks to Jackie Hellard for chaperoning our team trav-el!

They will arrive in the evening of Thursday May 18 and leave after the meet on Sunday, May 21.
