For openers, our time to renew friendships and
exchange ideas!
Oct 23rd – 6pm: Informal, optional, welcome dinner at
Charlie Farley’s, Onetangi Beach. For catering
purposes, please only advise Ken Ball by email if you
will NOT be attending. Selection of set menu meals
and bar drinks at individual cost.
Our teaching venue is again the Onetangi Community
Hall, Third Avenue and Waiheke Road, sited on
Pohutukawa Reserve and close to the 2km white sand
expanse of Onetangi Beach.
SATURDAY OCTOBER 24th
10am ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY
KEN BALL
One of the least understood areas of contemporary art
photography is explained in inspiring detail by Diane
Costello. What does make the difference between a
blurry picture and a real; abstract that people will
admire. The 45 minute presentation is followed by a
two hour field trip for hands-on experience with Diane
and Ken Ball.

KEN BALL
Ken Ball reveals the ups and downs of his career in
international photojournalism and art photography
and shows many pictures not seen for decades. Then
he explains where he is going next in using
photography as the source of art photography, which
will set the scene for our major Day 2 workshop.
4pm ETCHINGS & ABSTRACTS
DIANE COSTELLO
Diane shows images from her latest book “Impressions:
Etching and Abstracts”, which will be launched at this
workshop, and explains how she compiled the book.
SUNDAY OCTOBER 25th
All day session, starting at 10am:
EXTENDING THE MEDIUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY
INTO THE ART SPACE
KEN BALL
A hands-on day of field photography, working in mixed
media, expressive techniques in art photography,
transforming pictures into artwork, and original
creative variations. These highly stimulating and
inspiring sessions will be hosted by Ken Ball and Diane
Costello.
MONDAY OCTOBER 26th
10am REFINING YOUR ARTWORK
DIANE COSTELLO
Keep creating your artwork and experiment with more
techniques.

1pm PRODUCTION OF OUR CLASSBOOK, FEATURING
THE BEST WORK PRODUCED DURING THE WORKSHOP.
These digital class books have become a highlight of
our workshops! You not only can purchase a copy of
the book to keep but you learn how to make digital
books.
ALL THE WORKSHOP DETAILS
The workshop cost is NZ$555 (Aust $515) for three
days tuition and includes morning and afternoon teas.
Full payment must be made in August 2015 to ensure
your registration. Cancellations and refunds are not
accepted but should late circumstances prevent you
from attending, you may be given a free place in our
next 2016 workshops in Australia or New Zealand.
Welcome dinner:
An informal optional dinner will be held the evening
before the workshop starts.

Personal advice from the experts:
Both Ken Ball and Diane Costello will be available
during the workshop to review your own earlier work
in private sessions of 10-15 minutes for each
participant. Bring up to 10 of your best images for
review on a USB stick or as prints. These sessions are
usually held at the end of each day.
