Election 2008LCDS hosts major party representatives

Letter to the Editor:(received after Judy Blume’s talk)

Fresh on the high from the event this morning (and what’s a few extra minutes when I’m already 2 hours late to work!), I stopped off at my house so that I could write to you immediately to let you know how privileged and proud I feel to be part of a school that would engage our school community in such a lively and meaningful exercise (and no, it is not just because I happen to share the same views as today’s speakers!)

To learn from an author with whom many of us spent countless nights of our childhood was inspirational. To learn from advisors that can report the front line facts was educational and essential, not to mention a valuable lesson in the role of fact versus propaganda. I will look forward to tomorrow’s event as well. For, as Rabbi Linfield pointed out, debate and the opportunity to learn with open ears are values in which we, as Jews, take pride.

Thank you to all of you for bringing me, personally, and the school community such an informative and moving opportunity. I am proud to be a leader in a school that values alternative sources of education.
