Under 8s Week at LORDSOn Wednesday and Thursday afternoons this week, Preps and Kindy children have been celebrating Under 8s week.

The focus this year has been on celebrating languages and cultures in our community. In Prep A we looked at the Filipino and Japanese cultures, in Prep B we looked at the Mexican and Indian cultures and in Kindy we looked at the Korean and Aboriginal cultures.

We have learnt songs, dances, heard stories and created some lovely artwork.

Year 1 Student Dive In to Aged CareLast week our Year 1 students were immersed in an empathetic deep dive. They had the opportunity to hear from experts in aged care, listen to stories about what it feels like to lose your memory and experience and observe an aged care facility firsthand. The students will now take on the role of interior designers to help solve the problem they have identified through these activities. They will explore how they can make an aged care facility feel more like home, for the people who live there! We can’t wait to see what creative ideas our students come up with to help real people in our local community!

LORDS GRAND FINAL WINNERS!

This week the combined Year 7/8 volleyball boys took on Marymount in the grand final. They have remained undefeated this season and with some excellent serving from Jaiden and with some ‘quick on your toes’ action from Harry and Max they pulled through and won the grand final! They then celebrated with lollipops.

So overall the day was very positive, and everyone played well. A big congratulations is in order as they were eventual 2-0 winners.

Athletics Carnival and DistrictsA reminder that the Senior & Middle School Athletics Carnival is on Friday of week 9 (June 21) with a back-up plan for the following Thursday (June 26). Students wishing to make districts will need to place first in their event and partake in a minimum of four training sessions this term. Second placed athletes will be permitted providing they also attend the sessions and reach a suitable qualifying time / distance.

Following on from last year’s success, we have linked up with Beenleigh Little Athletics Club and have organised the following activities over the next few weeks, starting at 5pm. Students should see Mr Cappleman for further information.

Competitions at Beenleigh:

Tuesday, May 28 (200m, 800m, Long Jump, Shot)

Tuesday, June 11 (400m, 1,500m, High Jump, Discus)

Tuesday, June 18 (100, Javelin, Triple)

Co-curricular SportStudents are encouraged to partake in our co-curricular sports program at various times each week. This helps to cement the foundations for success and prepare our students for high level competition. Students also have a great opportunity to attend district trials for a sport they feel capable of playing at a high standard. Students are asked to see Mr Cappleman for further information.

The table below shows the co-curricular schedules for Term Two.
