Portable Gas Detectors

Portable Gas Detectors ensure personal protec-tion for your vessels crew. These personal detectors are normally clipped onto the crew member and have built in audible and visual alarms. These fitted alarms will activate when harmful gases are detected.

Personal gas detectors are programmed to ensure crew members are alerted to any potential dangers well in advance and gives them time to leave the area in which the hazardous gases are being detected.

Portable gas detectors come in a variety of sizes, colours and types. The most commonly supplied gas detector types are single gas and multi gas. We hold stockof various makes and models from the worlds leading gas detector manufacturers including Riken, MSA, Crowcon, Honeywell, BW, RAE and Draeger.

Common Hazards Detected:-

Why buy from DS Marine?

DS Marine offer technical advice to ensure the most suitable gas detector is supplied for your vessels crew. We ensure your requirements are met and it is our aim to supply a personal gas detector fit for purpose.

We hold a wide variety of stock from various manufacturers and can dispatch a new, fully calibrated and certified gas detector same day for next day delivery to your vessel.

Gas Detector Tubes

Gas detector tubes utilise colorimetric technology to produce a visual stain within the gas detecting tube. There are two main uses offering low-cost solution to each application.

Short-term (Standard Gastec tubes) safely allow users to perform spot sampling and tests in industrial environments to detect hazardous and toxic gases, and chemical vapours. Dosi-tubes are clipped into a dosi-tube holder which attaches to an item of clothing and worn over a working day or shift to calculate time-weighted average (TWA).

Gas detector tubes safely allow users to perform field screening and tests for the presence of hazardous and toxic gases, and chemical vapours at a very low cost-per-sample. Gas detector tubes from DS Marine are precision tubes offering a higher level of accuracy and repeatability for applications where results matter.

Gas detector tubes are easy to use and provide a low-cost method of routine or spot sampling for gases and vapours. They are perfect when sampling for a known target gas, with 100’s of detector tubes available providing tests for specific gases and vapours.

VOC Monitor + Area Monitor

VOC MonitorThe need for fast, accurate and repeatable VOC detection in safety-critical petrochemical environments.

Benzene is a natural constituent of crude oil. Assuring safety of personnel working on oil refineries depends on keeping exposure within tightly specified limits. Laws around the world requires that benzene exposure at refineries be reduced as far as is practically possible. Produc-tion facilities must monitor pipework, seals and valves, and measure emissions from process equipment.

Regular Monitoring of Benzene Concentrations

One of the aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene is extremely hazardous. The immediate effects of high exposure include headache, dizziness, nausea and tiredness, while long term exposure of excessive levels is a direct cause of leukaemia. As well as being a known carcinogen, benzene is also associated with various blood disorders and pre-cancers of the blood. It also attacks the liver, kidneys, lungs, heart and brain, and can cause DNA strand breaks and chromosomal damage.

Benzene is an industrially important chemical, being an intermediate in the manufacture of various plastics, nylon, resins and various pharmaceuticals. As such it is separated from other hydrocarbons as part of the petrochemical refining process in many plants and extracted as raw benzene. Monitoring of benzene is best performed with a high quality and stable PID instrument.

Area Gas MonitorsArea gas monitors can be used alongside personal gas detectors to provide a tough 'belt and braces' safety approach.

Area monitors provide protection to workers in confined space applications, perimeter, and fenceline monitoring.

Area gas monitors are often the gas detection unit of choice for worker safety during plant shutdown as part of maintenance programmes and other temporary detection zones. Area monitors can be used individually or as part of a daisy chain effect for area surveillance and protection.

Area monitors are a highly flexible solution because they can be placed in temporary or long-term configurations based on your specific hazards.

Perimeter Monitoring – Set up monitors around a tank, hot work, or other known hazardous areas to continuously monitor for gas leaks.

Fence Line Monitoring – Create a barrier between a safe zone and hazardous work area. Use the hopping capability of wireless connection to know what is happening up to 1.5 km away

Calibration Gas

Gas detectors are critical pieces of safety equipment. Fatalities can occur either due tonot having the correct equipment or due to that equipment not working correctly. If users have confidence in a product, then they are much more likely to use it correctly, increasing the safety of themselves and those around them. Calibration gas allows the user to test the gas detector for correct operation before each use.

Small, portable and disposable calibration gas cylinders offer a cost-effective alternative for low calibration gas volume applications such as found in marine, oil and gas industries. In order to guarantee the accuracy of these calibration gas mixtures, DS Marine follows the same NIST traceable procedures to manufacture the small

portable calibration gas cylinders as we use for manufacturing the larger specialty gas cylinders used in R&D, emissions analysis and process analyser applications.

Disposable non-refillable cylinders are typically used for function testing of gas detection and analytical equipment where portability is paramount or gas usage is relatively low. Many mixtures, including all the common quad gas variants, are available from stock and bespoke mixtures can be supplied with minimum lead time.

Emergency Escape BA Sets

The Ocenco M-20.2 compressed oxygen EEBD (Emergency Escape Breathing Device) provides up to 32 minutes of protection. The Ocenco M-20.2 EEBD can be donned in seconds; simply unlatch the case, pull out the unit, and insert the mouthpiece and nose clip. The attached hood can be donned at anytime during the escape. The compressed oxygen and mouthpiece combination allows the Ocenco M-20.2 EEBD to be donned in a smoke filled environment. The compact Ocenco M-20.2 EEBD can be belt worn in all confined spaces.

Emergency Escape BA SetsOur Emergency Escape BA Sets feature:

Quick, easy use – pulling the unit from the case automatically starts oxygen flow.Low life cycle cost – 15 year service life – annual shipboard visual inspection.Belt wearable – so light and compact it can be worn comfortably on a belt.Full visibility – the clear Te on hood protects the user from hazardous environments while allowing a full field of view.Maximum Protection – Teflon hood and breathing bag provide excellent heat and chemical resistance.

Immersion Suits/Lifejackets

Immersion Suits

An immersion suit is a body covering suit that is worn specifically for the purpose of remaining afloat and surviving during emergencies in high seas. This suit is therefore also known as a survival suit or a rescue suit. In today’s times, an immersion suit is one of the most important necessities on ships and oil rigs, considering the protection needed from the hazards of water.

Key features extracted from SOLAS Regulations for Immersion Suits:

Each person on board the ship must have his/her own personal immersion suit. Internationally RED in colour which is highly visible. The immersion suit should be unpacked and donned within a time frame of 2 minutes without any external help or assistance. The suit should be able to cover the whole body except the face. Hands should be covered unless permanently attached gloves are provided.Retro-reflective tapes must be fitted.Normal work must be able to be carried out upon wearing. The suit does not allow the body temperature to drop by more than 2 degrees when immersed for a period of 6 hours when the water temperature is between 0 and 2 degrees

Lifejackets

DS Marine supplies lifejackets that have been designed for tough marine and offshore work applications, combining superior in-water performance, durability and a comfortable, ergonomic design.

The Twin Chamber type is designed for use on open sea and on rigs and platforms, suitable for:

Extreme weatherWhen wearing heavy protective waterproof clothes. The jacket remains safe and will rotate the body so that the airways are clear of the water.

The inflatable twin chamber lifejacket gives the security that if one of the cambers is damaged or fails, the other chamber is sufficient to support the wearer in the open water on its own. Life Jackets are designed with a specific shape which when inflated, and in an offshore situation, enables you to float above and with the direction of the waves, while still keeping you buoyant in a safe position. If a spray hood is fitted, the Spray Hood protects your airways from sea spray. A man overboard casualty can not only drown from immersion in water but can drown from inhaling the sea spray and mist. If you are likely to be offshore, a Spray Hood is vital.
