Welcome to the 2017-2018 Met Opera live in HD season. It’s been nine years since the Oregon

Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA) embarked on this exciting new venture of HD performances with the help of the Jeannette B. Hofer Fund at the Oregon Commu-nity Foundation.

Without Jeannette’s love of opera and her generous gift so OCCA could retrofit the Newport Performing Arts Center (PAC) with Met-specific equipment and a big screen we would not have this new season to look forward to and enjoy. Jeannette’s vision for another type of art form at the PAC, for Lincoln County and for the Oregon coast has enabled people to attend the operas from Florence and south, from Manzanita, Wheeler and north, from the Valley - Eugene, Corvallis, Portland, Salem and beyond.

The PAC is one of only ten venues in the state of Oregon to offer Met Opera Live in HD. This program-ming could not continue without the support of our season benefactors and opera hosts, our OCCA mem-bers and you, the opera lovers.

This season features five new productions – a Met premiere, and several which are showing for the first time in HD. The season presents repertory favorites and new or seldom-seen works. They range from a bel canto tragedy and an opera-based on a film to a comic gem and the most performed opera in Met history (I bet you can figure out which one that is).

When you attend an opera at the PAC, enjoy the only Meyer Constellation acoustic system north of San Francisco. This remarkable acoustic system transforms the Alice Silverman Theatre into a magical world for the operatic form and allows you to really experience the music.
