  • Interview Meet Miss Nemiah, our music teacher By Jeta and Imogen, Y5

How many musical instruments do you play? My principle instrument is the piano but I also play the violin and African drums. As you indeed know I spend most of my

time at Judith Kerr Primary School playing so many other instruments too, such as the samba drums, the recorder and ukulele – all of which I love doing! Do you have a favourite sport?

My favourite sports to participate in are swimming and badminton. My favourite sport to watch is rugby.

Where do you come from? My parents are from the Philippines and came to London many years ago. However, I am London born and bred!

What are your hobbies? In my spare time I really enjoy running and swimming. I find it really uplifts me and I feel

    energised afterwards.

Do you have a favourite food? There is a wonderful Thai restaurant I go to a lot which, in my humble opinion, does the best Pad Thai. If I can add a favourite dessert, it has got to be toasted banana bread with yoghurt, honey and pistacchio on the side. Delicious!

Do you have a favourite love song? This is a really difficult question to answer as I listen to a wide range of musical genres! I think that Eva Cassidy’s version of “Songbird” is beautiful.

Do you have a favourite Shakespeare tragedy? Romeo and Juliet.

“She likes running, swimming and toasted banana bread! Miss Nemiah is teaching us how to love music.”

Upon closer inspection, it seems that there is always a traitor who is intent on killing the lovers. And

not only killing them – they sow discord, and the lovers end up killing themselves or each other. In Shakespeare’s Othello, two traitors are trying to stop Othello’s marriage to Desdemona and in the end make it seem as if she loves another man. The plan succeeds, and Othello kills Desdemona and then himself.

Something similar happens in Romeo and Juliet. Two people are in love, and through deception from the outside their love is destroyed and the lovers die.

In Shakespeare’s plays love makes people often aggressive and violent (which is the exact opposite of love). And sometimes it makes them super creative like Hamlet for example, who wrote a theatre play to spread the rumour that his uncle was a murderer, so that his uncle wouldn’t protest against the idea of him being a murderer. But, on the positive side, love also makes people to never give up and to try everything they possibly can to see their lover like Romeo and Juliet did.

“In Shakespeare’s tragedies, it seems that loved and loving people always die.”

I love my friends By Maya, Y4

I’ve been asked to write a love story but what shall I write about? Family, friends or romance? Of course at the age of 8, I don’t want to write about romance because I’m too young to think about it. So I’ve decided to write about Friendship love. When I first started Judith Kerr Primary School, I was very shy (obviously!) Suddenly, I saw my Mum talking to someone’s nanny. She was the nanny of a girl called Lotta and from that moment on, we stayed together, held hands and smiled at each other. Sometimes, friends fuss and fall out and sometimes they even find other best friends, but usually you and your first best friend always come

back together. I love Lotta because she’s so funny, is very kind and has always been very encouraging. I love all my friends because they’re all really fun to play with and they all have a vivid imagination. Sometimes when I’m drifting off to sleep, I think about how lucky I am to have all my lovely friends!

Family Love By Zahra, Y3Once upon a time there was a boy who was so shockingly bad that he came up with a plan: to destroy every important thing in the world. His name was Cornelius Boom. He built machines and made potions that ruined everything. He also gave everyone stinky feet disease which made them so smelly that they had to stay at home and so no one could go out to work. When the entire world had been spolit, Cornelius Bool set the wheels in motion for his final most terrible plan of all. He would destroy families. Despite all of his rotten deeds, it seemed that families were still sticking together. What he could not understand was that families still loved each other no matter what. He tried making the houses craped and uncomfortable, but the families just lived closer together in a smaller space. He destroyed livestock and crops, but the families just shared whatever food they had. It seemed that his final horrible plan was not working. Finally he discovered the secret to the strength of every family, which was love. There was nothing Cornelius Boom could do to destroy this love no matter how hard he tried. Sad and

annoyed, he gave up and let everything return to normal. Cornelius Boom was so glum that all he could think of to do was go running to his parents’ house and tell them how horrid he had been. Despite his frightfulness, his parents welcomed him homw. They forgave him, and encouraged him to be a good boy. And so it is that even the family of the most rotten boy will lovehim and forgive him. Aren’t we fortunate to have a family?

    Pet Love By Maxi Y4

Love for pets is one of the strongest loves in the world. Although it is very hard to care for a pet, they still make excellent companions! If you love your pet, it’s crucial to care for them properly. Firstly, you should show your love by making sure they are well fed. Our cat eats quite a lot and has been putting on weight – so make sure you don’t over-feed them! Next, you should help them to get confident around you. It’s not always easy to get a pet to feel like your home is their home. If it’s a rescue animal, you will have to try to stop its bad habits. Also, you have to teach them how to use their toilet. Feral cats might go to the toilet anywhere! For new cats, in the first three weeks, you should make them stay inside. However, if you have a dog, they have to be walked daily. If you have a hamster, a gerbil, a guinea pig or a rat, you just need to take them out of their cage from time to time. After these training steps, your pet will probably feel loved and at home. I hope that you succeed in training your pet, if you’ve got one.

Here’s a photo of our cat, Pudding.

A LOVE SONG BY KATIE Y5

Love, love, love, is a beautiful thing and when I play my tune my mouth begins to sing "How much I love you is a mystery but when I show it you will soon see. I love you my dear but if you don't agree that's your opinion about me."

That was my song. I hope it will do for you.
Thank you for listening!

Love Theatre Peter Pan (National Theatre) by Jerry, Y4

On one fine Saturday afternoon in the beginning of December, I rushed into the National Theatre, up the staircase and …Woosh! I was here. The stage for Peter Pan. My eyes gleamed with joy. These are some of the parts I enjoyed the most. I watched fearfully as Peter started drowning under the waves. I liked it when the lost boys gave Wendy all sorts of different items such as unused parts of a shower head, an oil tank or a tin can telephone. I laughed my head off when Tinkerbell turned out to be a short man with tiny fairy wings and a shower cap on his head. I think it is very funny to make these changes to the original story. And now my favourite: the crocodile. Now, I know what you are thinking: what’s so exciting about a crocodile? Well, I’ll tell you. The crocodile was actually a crocodile head shaped out of metal with red light bulbs as eyes. Behind that, were pieces of scrap metal for the body and a saw for the tail. Now I think about it I’d like that as a pet!

Have you ever considered how hard it is to be a baddie? Well, I found out when I went to the Unicorn Theatre and watched Baddies the Musical in December last year. The story is based on the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood (who is the

main character). He and some other baddies meet in jail and become ... good? The show was fabulous - easily a five-star rating for the characters and setting. The musical made an impression on people of all ages. Funny, exciting and incredible altogether - a play that deserves mountains and mountains of praise. I hope you didn't miss it!
