The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ June 18, 2017
From the Desk of Fr. Jason
“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood, has Eternal Life”, such powerful words of our Savior. Today, as we celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), we need to remember why he came to redeem us: so that we can have life abundantly. The gift of the Eucharist is that food for the journey to give us life. We need to let him become
part of us, so that we will have part of his life in heaven! This is more than a simple saying, but a reality because the Eucharist is our lifeline and link to heaven, as Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross is made present in this meal that he himself gave us at the Last Supper, and asked to be celebrated until he comes again. That is why devotion to the Eucharist is central to our faith. We do not worship an idol, but a person. One of my favorite places to go in the whole world is right here in Erie, at St. Joseph’s Perpetual Adoration Chapel, where you can pray 24 hours/day and 7 days/week. Because it is Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist, there must be at least two regularly scheduled adorers present always. I have the honor of going every Friday Morning at 1am. I look forward to that time, not because the phone is not ringing, or emails are not sent, or I am not teaching, but because it allows me to take time to be in the PRESENCE of HIM. That is why we have the Eucharist, and celebrate the Eucharist on Sunday and at every Mass, so that we can recognize his PRESENCE and bring HIM to others by how we live our life. Perhaps you are looking to jumpstart your prayer life, feel free to stop at St. Joes during the day, and their office staff will buzz you in. If you want to spend time in the evening, they will give you a code that you punch in on the keypad. Don’t worry you are always safe and secure and no one can get in without a code. They are also looking for committed adorers for various timeslots. Feel free to give them a call! The Eucharist is a gift, may we always cherish it!
Happy Father’s Day to all Fathers, biological, spiritual, and familial. Thank you for your example of courage and strength in our lives. I am made a better man because of my own Father, but also by the example of many of you! Enjoy the day, a round of golf, a BBQ, or just spending precious time with family and friends. These small things are great in the scheme of life. Take time to say thank you to the Father in your life today. For some, this day is hard, either because your father is no longer living, or has not been present in your life, please pray for them as well, and thank whomever that fatherly figure is in your life. Working in a high school, I realize only a glimpse of the meaning of fatherhood to my kids, and love them as if I was their father, and am always in awe of good fatherly figures out there!
This week is our annual Priest Convocation in Latrobe, called Emmaus. There will be no Mass celebrated at St. Jude on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, but Deacon Brogdon will be offering Communion Services during those scheduled times. Please keep Fr. Detisch, myself, and the other priests of our diocese in your prayers as we continue to explore the meaning of the Pastoral Planning in our lives and in the lives of those we serve…. hopefully, it will be nice weather too! I love going for a jog through the many paths and acreage of St. Vincent College in Latrobe while down there! Know of my prayers for you, and included in the bulletin is the Emmaus Prayer that you can pray as well!
Congratulations to our graduates from all our high schools….and know of our continued love and prayers for you as you prepare to head off to college, military, or the workforce….and spend time with your family and friends too! Now that we are entering the summer months of travel, vacation, picnics, BBQ’s etc.…. don’t forget to pray. Perhaps the busyness of the school year has gotten the best of you and you need a spiritual reset. Think of going to daily mass a few days’ week, praying a novena or devotion, going to confession or adoration, making a Cursillo or DME retreat (both of which we have information on our website). Prayer makes hope possible; prayer changes lives, and helps us to answer the question of Jesus in this weekend’s gospel! Peace, Fr. J

Emmaus Soup Kitchen Wednesday, June 21st.
is St. Jude's day to bring desserts for the Emmaus Soup
Kitchen. You can bring them to the church and put them on the table near the Blessed Mother Statue until 9:00 am. After that, you can bring them to the Founders Room in the Parish Office until 12:00 noon They like donuts, brownies, cakes, pies, cookies etc.
Thanks to all who bring desserts. Your generosity is very much appreciated.
The Emmaus Prayer
Lord Jesus, hear our prayer for the spiritual renewal of our priests. We praise you for giving their ministry to your Church. In these days, renew them with the gifts of your Spirit.
You once opened the Scriptures to the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Now renew your ordained ministers with the truth and power of your Word.
In Eucharist, you gave the Emmaus disciples renewed life and hope. Nourish priests with your own Body and Blood. Help them to imitate in their lives the death and resurrection they celebrate at your altar.
Give priests enthusiasm for the Gospel, zeal for the salvation of all, courage in leadership, humility in service, communion with one another, and with all their brothers and sisters in You.
For you love them, Lord Jesus, and we love and pray for them in Your Name.
Amen.

A Family Perspective Body and Blood of Christ
Parenting is a Eucharistic activity because from the first moment of conception children receive life from us. If we don’t sacrifice ourselves, our chil-dren would not have life. This is the paschal mystery of parenting. Christ is present in each self-sacrifice.
