The MOU and much more………..

Konnichiwa. Ikaga deshita ka? We thank our readers for their support and feedback. We are confident that this issue of E-Nihon mon will also make great reading for all of you. After basking in the happiness of the success at the 50th year celebration of AOTS at Japan, we were on our heels to go back to the drawing board to plan our activities for the first and second quarters of the year. The first three months of 2010 saw a flurry of activities like the celebration of the Japan Cultural Week, Seminar on 5S and TPM and a Seminar on Historical View of Japanese Management. Chennai, as a corporate destination, is well on the path of being a hot-spot for Japanese visitors and as per information available, many more companies from Japan are looking to set up their operations in India and Chennai, in particular. This paves the way for us to strengthen the bonding of our countries and be the single most important establishment in Chennai in fostering cultural and technical relationship/ties with Japan. This quarter also saw the inauguration of Toshiba Power Systems Factory and Renault Nissan factory at Manali and Oragadam respectively. We wish to thank both these organizations for using our language services and training expertise for their new recruits. We wish both these organizations every success and we are confident that they would find

Tamilnadu as the best location in India with very hospitable people to support them realize their goals For all of us at ABK-AOTS Dosokai, Tamilnadu Centre, the most defining event of this quarter was the signing of the MOU with The Japan-India Association in the presence of H.E Mr. Yoshino Mori, former Prime Minister of Japan and the Chairman of The Japan-India Association and H’ble Mr. Hiroshi Hirabayashi, former Ambassador of Japan to India and the President of The Japan-India Association. This milestone could not have been achieved but for the constant support and encouragement of H’ble Mr. Kazuo Minagawa, Consul General of Japan at Chennai and his entire team at The Consulate General of Japan in Chennai. As a mark of our true gratitude to this support from all corners, we rededicate our focus in being an important and strong bridge between India and Japan. The response we have received from our friends and well-wishers has been a great motivation for us and please do not hesitate to write to us at [email protected] with your response and suggestions. Gokoun o inorimasu.…… Hari & Paddy Editors-in-Chief

Furisode – The Formal Kimono 10th April 2010

When a young Japanese woman turns 20 years old, she is recognized as an adult. Many parents buy the Furisode for their daughters to celebrate this significant point of their life.

ONE DAY Training Programme on “TPM” (Total Productive Maintenance) at our Centre 8th May 2010 Furisode is a formal kimono for single women; it is

brightly colored and made of very fine quality silk. In the very modest Japanese society wearing a Furisode is a very obvious statement. It is a very loud and clear advertisement that the single woman is available for marriage.

ONE DAY Training Programme on “KOBETSU KAIZEN” at our Centre. 15th May 2010 ONE DAY Training Program on SINGLE MINUTE EXCHANGE OF DIES (SMED) at our Centre

One of the major points of difference with the Furisode is the long sleeves and in some cases actually touches the ground.

Announcement of Drawing Competition for the students studying between 6th and 12th Standard in Tamilnadu, in coordination with live-in-japan.com, Japan

Furisode is mainly worn for major social functions such as wedding ceremony or tea ceremonies until they get married. Depending on the quality of the materials, design and workmanship, a furisode would cost approximately ¥ 4,00,000 and upwards for the whole outfit.

ONE DAY Training Programme on “OFFICE TPM” for Improving Office Overall efficiency (OEE) at our Centre

The second Monday in January is a public holiday called ‘Adult Day’ and many young women attend a ceremony wearing their Furisode kimono. Historically, the Furisode is associated with the disastrous Meireki Fire of March 1657, which broke out in the Honmyōji temple in the Hongo district of Edo (now Tokyo) and swept through the city for two days, killing more then 100,000 people. The fire is believed to have been ignited by a spark from a kimono burnt in an exorcism ceremony!
