Colorado Department Commandant Clem Schuette

Greetings Marines, Corpsmen, Associates, and Auxiliary members. Another year has come and gone and I want to thank the Union Colony Marines for hosting our state convention May 3-5. I wish you all had been there to hear Master Gunnery Sergeant Brian Ivers USMC Ret. He is an outstanding speaker and never disappoints. Thanks to all of you that attended the convention and for your support in my reelection as your state Commandant. I have great confidence in the slate of officers that were elected and appointed. I think we all get comfortable in the abilities of the people we know best and I think that shows in the number of members from the Union Colony Marines that have been elected or appointed. I know many of you are very active in your Detachments, and I encourage you to bring that enthusiasm to the Department level. Our next Department Convention will be hosted by the Broomfield Detachment. They are negotiating with several hotels in the northwestern Denver area, and will report by the October quarterly meeting. Many thanks to Marines Paula Sarlls, and Tom Krueger for their commitment to the Marine Memorial in Golden, CO. I attended their Memorial day services for the first time this year at the Memorial and was very Impressed with the service, and the speaker. The Memorial Association has a very aggressive plan for upgrading the Memorial, let's make it happen Marines. This Memorial belongs to all of us. Upcoming events are the quarterly meeting in Colorado Springs, and the National convention in Billings, MT. We won't have a national convention this close again in the near future, Please consider attending. If you are a M.O.D.D. Devil Dog and are eligible to advance to PDD, make sure your paper work is completed and turned in to the Dog Robber. Thanks to all of you for your service to our Country, our Corps and Marine Corps League. Semper Fi, Clemens F. Schuette

Senior Vice Commandant Russ Miller

Hello Marines, FMF Corpsmen, FMF Chaplains, associate members, auxiliary members, family and friends. 2019 Department Convention and Division Conference is behind us. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Union Colony Marines for hosting a great convention. I also wish to say thank you to everyone present for their votes of confidence in electing me to continue on as Department Senior Vice Commandant and as National Vice Commandant for the Rocky Mountain Division. I moved up to the Sr. Vice post from Jr. Vice after our sad loss of Phillip Price and am excited to continue to work diligently as our department continues to grow. Over the last two years I have had the privilege to work with some Marines in the San Luis Valley, (Alamosa area), for the Tots for Tots campaigns. I am excited to report that a meet and greet was held at the Purple Pig Pub and Pizzeria last month. A couple past members and some new Marines came out to discuss the reorganizing of a MCL Detachment in that area. Another event will be taking place on 22 June, and hopefully we will have enough Marines to form a new detachment. I will be sure to pass the word as to the date that a charter signing will take place so that Department officers and members from other detachments can come out to support them. They already have a fully trained Toys for Tots coordinator that will be taking over the campaign for that area from Pikes Peak Detachment, effective immediately. While volunteering at the Pueblo VA Clinic, I have met a few Marines from the South east corner of our wonderful state that are interested in starting up a Fire-Team over in the Arkansas River Valley with the hopes of getting a new detachment going down there in the next couple years. Looks like our new Dept Junior Vice Commandant, Joe Meilinger, may be pretty busy for a while. Semper Fi, Russ

Junior Vice Commandant Joe Meilinger Hello Marines! First off I would like to thank you all for electing me as your new Jr. Vice Commandant. I will do my best for the Department of Colorado. Summer is definitely a busy time for me. Being the Commandant of the Union Colony Marines Det. 1093, I am also the Vice President of the Wranglers. The Wranglers is an organization of volunteers that help put on the Greeley Independence Stampede! This year’s Stampede will run from June 26th to July 7th. I would like to invite you all to the Greeley Stampede on July 2nd. This is Military appreciation night at the Rodeo. Veterans get in free to the park and the Rodeo. Rodeo starts at 1900 hours. Hope you can make it! Again Thank you for electing my your new Jr. Vice! Semper Fi, Joseph Meilinger

Web Sergeant Terry Crum Greetings motivated Marines, dedicated FMF Corpsmen, and outstanding associate/auxiliary members. Summer is here and no doubt many of you are getting your share of the sun and vacation time with family and friends. That is of course how it should be. Part of the experience of serving in the military is so often placing service to country before self. When the orders came to “ship out” we packed our gear and went where the Corps sent us. Now that the days of wearing the uniform are behind us, we can focus more on our families and ourselves. Make the most this time, truly you earned the right to. With that preamble out of the way, I am thankful for the Department officers and members that did take the time to submit articles for this newsletter. Your contribution in time to compose your articles make the newsletter possible. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Department staff meeting in July. My wife, Theresa, is doing her best to “fire up” the ladies of the Pikes Peak detachment in order to give everyone the best lunch for the Department staff meeting. As you enjoy the summer be sure to take care of yourself, the family you were born to, and the family you are sworn to. Semper Fidelis, Terry

Colorado Pack of the Military Order of the Devil Dogs

Pack Leader P.D.D. Russ Miller Woof Woof! Hopefully every eligible Devil Dog that wishes to move up to Pedigree has gotten their rabies shots and started working on their obedience training. The Supreme Growl of the Kennel is just a few weeks away. Our new Pack Dog Robber and myself will have signed copies of your advancement papers for you to take with you to Billings, Montana at the upcoming Pack Growl, which will be held after the Department staff meeting in Colorado Springs on 27 July. If your Pound has some mangey flea bitten Pups that are ready to move up to Devil Dog, make sure to notify me ASAP, so the Dog Robber can verify their eligibility and the Mad Dog can be ready to take them through their training and initiation. Bring bones and be prepared to have FUN. Since our turnout of dogfood was pretty anemic at the Grand Growl of the Pack last month in Greeley, I would once again challenge all of the dogs from each pound attending the department staff meeting to bring a bag of dog food with you to be donated to the local dog rescue. We will be weighing in the food when you arrive, and the pound bringing the most will take home a prize. Thanks again for electing this German Shepherd/Scottie mix to be your Pack Leader for another year. In the coming year I want us to try having a lot more fun and maybe a wee bit less honor at our Growls. Keep looking for ways that your Pounds can help those less fortunate children in our communities. Woof Woof, Devil Dogs! Until we meet again in Growl assembled, SEMPER WOOF P.D.D. Russ

US Marine Corps Memorial The Memorial Day ceremony was a huge success even though we had glitches! Great photos are on the web page and the leadership at Northcom is becoming aware of the project through the Sergeant Major, Generals who have spoken and hold high position in the Corps! The League detachments have improved their participation in events and support as has the auxiliary! Special thanks to Broomfield for bringing the floats out, Union Colony for their rifle squad; Windsor had a good attendance as did Foothills. If I missed anyone, I apologize. The 1st Colorado Regiment of the Young Marines and the US Vets Riding Club were essential to a great event as well. And I do want to recognize the bag piper Ken Giese, Korea for the many years of support of the Memorial. The Association is blessed to have Mark and Mary Eckhout (Windsor) as the organizers of the event. They do a lot for the Memorial and never get recognized as has Joe Porter & David Bernard (Foothills) over the years. United Veterans Coalition of Colorado This organization used to be United Veterans Committee of Colorado. They changed names this year, but the mission remains the same. They work on legislative issues to help veterans and active duty. Their accomplishments can be found on their web page at https://www.uvcoc.org/ Lou Entz and I are the MCL representatives. He hasn’t been to a meeting for months that I know of and I’ve missed a lot of them. The League should appoint someone else to take this over before the next meeting in September. They meet the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 9AM at the American Legion post 9644 in Englewood near Ft Logan off Hampden. Department Scholarship Fund Committee Marines, Auxiliary Members At the Department Convention only 3 college/college bound students submitted applications to receive a scholarship from the Department. They are Breanna N Fischer (received $500), Jordyn Schuette (received $500), and Dalton R. Georgopulos (received $600). Congratulations are in order to the applicants. The Scholarship Fund Committee also has new elected officers. They are:

• Chairman: Paula Sarlls • Vice Chairman: Clem Schuette • Secretary: Meg Krebs • Treasurer: Dale Wingert

We also request that each MCL Detachment and MCLA Unit in Colorado, help us raise funds throughout the year by conducting some kind of a fund raiser for the Scholarship Fund. The more we raise the more funds can be available to give for scholarships. We know you can meet this challenge. Meg Krebs Secretary DoCo Scholarship Fund Committee
