Try to increase per acreyield of monsoon paddy

The early monsoon is picking up in thiscultivation season. So monsoon paddy is beinggrown in the farmlands of Myanmar.Ceremonies to complete cultivation ofmonsoon paddy have taken place inconjunction with paddy transplantingcompetitions in Yangon and Bago Divisions.

Yangon Division held the ceremony tocomplete cultivation of monsoon paddy on29 July as it has nearly met the target ofgrowing 1.2 million acres of monsoon paddyyearly. It will continue to try to increase theper acre yield.

Likewise, Bago Division is trying tocultivate more than 3 million acres ofmonsoon paddy. It also held the ceremony toconclude the cultivation of monsoon paddyand paddy transplanting contest on 29 July.

Being the biggest paddy growers, theseregions have the increased yield of paddycapable of cultivating monsoon paddy yearlyin time. They will have to grow more monsoonpaddy to exceed the target.

As a paddy strain plays an importantpart in increasing the per acre yield, it isnecessary to choose and grow high-yieldquality strains. Moreover, emphasis is to beplaced on using correct agricultural methods,a mixture of chemical and natural fertilizersand more advanced farm equipment.

With the good early monsoon, regionalbodies have rendered necessary assistancefor timely completion of monsoon paddycultivation and for basic agricultural needs. All the farmers, therefore, are to try toincrease the per acre yield of monsoon paddy.

Special Refresher Course No. 68 for Basic Education Teachers concludes

Development Council Gen-eral Thiha Thura Tin AungMyint Oo, Minister for Edu-cation Dr Chan Nyein de-livered an address.

It was also attendedby Minister for Labour UAung Kyi, Minister forSocial Welfare, Relief andResettlement Maj-GenMaung Maung Swe, Chair-man of Yangon City De-velopment CommitteeMayor Brig-Gen AungThein Lin, the deputy min-isters, departmental heads, the rector of CICS(Phaunggyi), the pro rec-

tors, heads of departmentsand trainees.

In his speech, Min-ister Dr Chan Nyein saidthat the trainees have beenable to know well the im-portance of the national rolethey are playing in buildinga future nation for they havelearned about the historyfrom the past to the presentand internal and externalprevailing conditions.

As good education

staff, the teachers them-selves need to have confi-dence and conviction basedon correct national out-looks. At the same time, they also need to train theirstudents to become nationalforces capable of buildinga future nation with highnationalistic spirit. Look-ing at present situation, theworld is facing such greatchallenges as natural disas-ters, global economic crisisand its impact on other na-tions, power struggles inpolitics and military andrapidly advancing science

and technology. At such atime, global nations are try-ing to maintain their sover-eignty and protect their owninterests based on their his-torical experiences and in-ternal prevailing situations.

The Union ofMyanmar, home to variousnational races, is blessedwith rich natural resourcesand high human resourcesplus rich cultural heritage.Myanmar has existed since

ancient times with ownmonarchs.

The minister contin-ued to say that in thecolonialist period, the na-tional brethren struggled fornational independence bytaking their respective rolesand rebuilt Myanmar as asovereign nation. As thepeople from different peri-ods have been able to main-tain independence and sov-ereignty as the life-blood ofthe nation, Myanmar is nowstanding in the internationalcommunity as an independ-ent, sovereign nation. Con-

tinuing to maintain such agood legacy, the new gen-eration youths are to build apeaceful, modern and de-veloped nation as a nationalduty.

Since its duty as-sumption of the State, theState Peace and Develop-ment Council has beenstriving for the nation tocatch up with other nationsby adopting 12 State objec-tives and upholding OurThree Main NationalCauses – non-disintegrationof the Union, non-disinte-gration of national solidar-ity and perpetuation of sov-ereignty. While the State istrying for the entire peopleto improve their socio-economy, it is also buildingeducation, health and trans-port infrastructures acrossthe nation with the strengthof intellectuals and intelli-gentsia.

In accord with themotto ‘Let’s build a mod-ern, developed nationthrough education’, theState is building educationfoundations the length andbreadth of the nation to en-sure equal opportunities forrural and urban areas. Theaim of the people to build amodern nation can be real-ized only when there is bal-anced development of vari-ous sectors in all parts ofthe Union. At a time whenthe State is striving in allaspects for national educa-tion promotion, the teach-ers on their part are to trainnational youths of new gen-erations to become well-educated. In this way, the

State is working for the de-velopment of the states anddivisions.

In building peaceful, modern and developeddemocratic nation and con-tributing efforts towardsperpetual existence of fu-ture democratic state, hu-man resources who arelearning constantly play avital role as a major force. Itis important to know thepoint that nurturing andturning out educated hu-man resources in accordwith the 30-year long termplan for promotion of na-tional education standard isshaping the future of thenation.

The teachers respon-sible for national educationpromotion and other edu-cation staff are to alwaysstrive to perform their du-ties both in form and es-sence.

In striving for na-tional education promotion, conventional teachingmethods including teacher-centered approach can de-lay the national educationpromotion. Then, hestressed the need to imple-ment the work of basic edu-cation sector.

It is necessary totrain today’s youth not onlyto be well-educated butalso to be equipped withconfidence and nationalconviction and the spirit ofserving the interest of theMyanmar society. So theteachers, while learningpolitical, economic and so-cial developments of theState, are to train their stu-

dents to have nationalisticspirit.

The minister addedthat the teachers are to fol-low and implement theguidelines of Head of StateSenior General Than Shwesuch as improvement ofthe teaching skills, upgrad-ing of school curriculumsand syllabuses to meet theinternational standards, ef-fective use of teaching aids, respecting of rules andregulations and disciplinesand flourishing of patriot-ism and Union Spirit.

Thanks to the col-laborative efforts of thegovernment, the peopleand the Tatmadaw in ac-cord with the seven-stepRoad Map, the aim of thepeople to build a futurenation will be realized innot-too-distant future.Later, the minister said allthe teachers are to try notonly to safeguard the Un-ion of Myanmar, the legacyof national ancestors, butalso to ensure the nation tostand tall among the inter-national community. Theyare to train new generationyouths to become quali-fied human resources withhigh confidence and con-viction. They are to per-form national duties of edu-cation sector for building afuture nation based onUnion Spirit.

Later, Minister DrChan Nyein presentedprizes to outstanding train-ees and hostels and certifi-cates to leaders of the train-ees.

Fatah, West’s hope forpeace, faces critical test

RAMALLAH, 1 Aug—Fatah, the divided and demor-alized movement of the late Yasser Arafat and theWest’s best hope for delivering a Mideast peace deal,is trying to stage a comeback.

On Tuesday, Fatah is supposed to open its firstconvention in 20 years, hoping to clean up itscorruption-tainted image and transform itself into avibrant alternative to the Islamic militants ofHamas.

The international community, including US diplo-mats, is watching anxiously, since Fatah is the onlymainstream Palestinian champion of compromise withIsrael.

Yet there are signs that the movement, paralyzedby infighting and generational power struggles, is in-capable of reform. And because of a bitter standoffwith Hamas, it’s not even certain the three-day con-vention in the West Bank city of Bethlehem will openon schedule.

Britain to outlaw most private organtransplants

LONDON,1 Aug—TheBritish government saidon Friday that it plans toban private organtransplants from deaddonors to allay fears thatprospective recipientscan buy their way to thefront of the line. Ag o v e r n m e n t - c o m -missioned reportrecommended thatorgans donated within thestate-run National HealthService should staywithin the public healthsystem, which providesuniversal care to

everyone who lives inBritain. Thoughtransplants are free, thereare often long waiting lists.

Very few Britons haveprivate transplants, so inpractice the new rules willstop overseas patientsfrom coming to Britainand paying privately for atransplant.

The report by ElisabethBuggins, former head ofthe Organ DonationTaskforce, was com-missioned after a mediastorm over cases in whichforeigners were given

transplants from deadBritons.

Several newspapersreported last year thatabout 50 foreign patientshad received livers fromBritish donors at twoLondon hospitals.

The transplants werelegal because the NHShas a duty to treat anyonewho is physically inBritain. But since thepatients were not coveredby Britain’s healthsystem, they paid a fee tothe hospitals and doctorsinvolved.—Internet
