Retailer Spotlight: Kings Table Bar & Grill, BeavercreekDean Liakakos, the owner of Kings Table Bar & Grill, grew up in the family restaurant and bar business. Kings Table opened in 1978.
He calls his bartenders Kat and Shaundra his mainstays when it comes to Keno and other Lottery games. Dean was recruited by sales representative Melissa Bowen in 2014. The addition of the MP vending machine convinced him of the benefit of becoming an Ohio Lottery retailer. Adding vending allowed customers to make their own purchases and made the responsibility of the wait staff easier. He has 23 employees.
Dean also has the new MPQK vending machine that’s been in pilot testing around the state.
How Dean describes his customersDean calls his clientele a “diverse group of people.” Kings Table Bar & Grill is located near the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base; and so, there are a lot of military personnel and veterans who patronize his business. The bar attracts students from Wright State University, including a fair number of international students too.
Advice for the LotteryDean would like the QuicKeno games loaded on the MPQK to offer more winners. “Loosen it up and let them win a bit,” he says. He believes even $5 and $10 wins would make many of his customers happy, and he knows that many players will continue to play with their winnings.
Participation in promotions for Keno playOver the past year, his sales representative Melissa Bowen has worked with staff to offer a regular schedule of promotions to encourage Lottery game play. In its most recent terminal promotion, Kings Table offered customers a $1, 2-spot play with Booster for free with a $10 purchase of Keno. The promotion ran on Mondays in November from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Kings Table took part in one of the Lottery’s QuicKeno parties held at select MPQK retailers this spring. The QuicKeno parties enabled Lottery staff to introduce customers to these new Ohio Lottery games and gauge their interest in other games offered in the bar/tavern setting. Melissa says about 50 customers participated.
“When customers are offered a free opportunity, they are happy to take it,” Dean says.
Kings Table’s rules on playing Lottery gamesDean does not allow his employees to play Lottery while on the job.
Dean’s favorite part of owning a bar“It’s nice to see people having a good time. That’s the number one reward,” he says.
