ADVENT PRAYER

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

God, our Father. all the elements of nature obey your command. We praise and thank you for your pro-tection during the hurricane season. We ask again to guide us through a new year, free of earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters Bless our families and bring peace to all nations. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

This Advent-time we remember Mary and Joseph,

giving thanks for their faithfulness, courage and obedience,

stepping out into the unknown in the strength of your Spirit,

playing their part in the fulfilment of your plan to bring your prodigal people

home again. We pray that their example

might be the pattern of our lives, that when your gentle whisper

breaks through the clamour of this world

and into our small corner, we might be ready to listen, and having listened, to act.

«NO ONE GREATER THAN JOHN THE BAPTIST HAS COME FORWARD AMONG THE SONS OF WOMEN»

Today, as in last Sunday, the Church familiarizes us with the figure of John the Baptist. He had many dis-ciples and a clear and well-differentiated tenet: for the Publicans, for the soldiers, for the Pharisees and Sadducees... His desire was to prepare Messiah’s public life. First he sent John and Andrew; today he sends others so they could know Him too. They ask him: «Are you the one who is to come or should we expect someone else?» (Mt 11:3). John cer-tainly knew who Jesus was. He himself bears witness to that: «And I had no knowledge who He was, but He who sent me to give baptism with water said to me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit coming down and resting, it is he who gives baptism with the Holy Spirit’» (Jn 1:33). And Jesus responds with facts: the blind see, the lame walk... John had a firm disposition about his way of life and about sticking to the Truth, which, eventually, brought imprisonment and martyrdom to him. Even in his prison he expeditiously speaks to Herod. John teaches us how to combine a firm character with meekness: «The one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie» (Jn 1:27); «He must become greater; I must become less» (Jn 3:30); he exults at the fact Jesus baptizes more disciples than he, as he only considers himself as “the friend who attends the bridegroom” (cf. Jn 3:29). In short: John teaches us to seriously consider our mission on earth: to be tenacious Christians knowing how to behave as sons of God. We should be asking ourselves: —How did Mary and Joseph prepare themselves for Jesus Christ’s birth? How did John prepare Jesus’ teachings? How do we prepare ourselves to commemorate it and for the second advent of our Lord at the end of time? As Cyril of Jerusalem said: «We preach not one advent only of Christ, but a second also, far more glorious than the former. For the former gave a view of His patience;

ENVELOPES. Your contribution envelopes for the new year are available to be picked up after all the weekend masses. We have some boxes available for those who don’t have and would like to get one. You can also pick them up in the rectory during office hours.

PENANCE SERVICE AND DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION. This Sunday, December 11th we will have a Penitential Service start-ing at 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Different priests will be available for confessions. We will have the Divine Mercy Devotion from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. We will end with the benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

ANGEL TREE. This year we will extend again our Christmas spirit of giving to the homeless. There are gift tags on the angel tree which indicate the items to be purchased. Please put the tag on the wrapped gifts to indicate the gift for distribution. The gifts will be placed under the tree. The last day to bring the gifts is December 22nd. Thank you.

ThE ADORATION of the Blessed Sacrament in the St. Michael Chapel continues next Tuesday, December 13th from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

ThE AGUINALDO MASSES are scheduled from Friday, Decem-ber 16th at 6:00 a.m. until Saturday, December 24th. On Saturdays, December 17th and December 24th mass will be at 8:00 a.m. Ev-eryone is invited to come and share this Hispanic tradition of the nine days before Christmas. Because of the Aguinaldo Masses, there will be no morning or evening masses during those days.

Padre, todos los elementos de la naturaleza obedecen tu mandato. Te alabamos y te damos gracias por tu protección durante la temporada de huracanes. Nuevamente te pedimos que nos guíes a través de un nuevo año libre de terremotos, inundacio-nes y otros desastres naturales. Ben-dice nuestras familias y trae la paz a todas las naciones. Te lo pedimos por Jesucristo nuestro Señor que vive y reina contigo y el Espíritu Santo, un sólo Dios por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

Ya muy cercano, Emmanuel, hoy te presiente Israel, que en triste exilio

vive ahora y redención de ti implora.Ven ya, del cielo resplandor, Sabi-

duría del Señor, pues con tu luz, que el mundo ansía, nos llegará nueva

alegría. Llegando estás, Dios y Señor, del Sinaí legislador, que la ley santa

promulgaste y tu poder allí mostraste.Ven, vara santa de Jesé, contigo el pueblo a lo que fue volver espera,

«NO HA SURGIDO ENTRE LOS NACIDOS DE MUJER UNO MAYOR qUE JUAN EL BAUTISTA»

Hoy, como el domingo anterior, la Iglesia nos presenta la figura de Juan el Bautista. Él tenía muchos dis-cípulos y una doctrina clara y diferenciada: para los publicanos, para los soldados, para los fariseos y saduceos... Su empeño es preparar la vida pública del Mesías. Primero envió a Juan y Andrés, hoy envía a otros a que le conozcan. Van con una pregunta: «Eres tú el que ha de venir, o debemos esperar a otro?» (Mt 11,3). Bien sabía Juan quién era Jesús. Él mismo lo testimonia: «Yo no lo conocía, pero el que me envió a bautizar con agua me dijo: ‘Aquel sobre el que veas descender el Espíritu y permanecer sobre él, ése es el que bautiza en el Espíritu Santo’» (Jn 1,33). Jesús contesta con hechos: los ciegos ven y los cojos andan... Juan era de carácter firme en su modo de vivir y en mantenerse en la Verdad, lo cual le costó su encarcela-miento y martirio. Aún en la cárcel habla eficazmente con Herodes. Juan nos enseña a compaginar la firmeza de carácter con la humildad: «No soy digno de desatarle las sandalias» (Jn 1,27); «Es preciso que Él crezca y que yo disminuya» (Jn 3,30); se alegra de que Jesucristo bautice más que él, pues se considera sólo “amigo del esposo” (cf. Jn 3,26). En una palabra: Juan nos enseña a tomar en serio nuestra misión en la tierra: ser cristianos coherentes, que se saben y actúan como hijos de Dios. Debemos preguntarnos: —¿Cómo se prepararían María y José para el nacimiento de Jesucristo? ¿Cómo preparó Juan las enseñanzas de Jesús? ¿Cómo nos preparamos nosotros para conmemorarlo y para la segunda venida del Señor al final de los tiempos? Pues, como decía san Cirilo de Jerusalén: «Nosotros anunciamos la venida de Cristo, no sólo la primera, sino también la segunda, mucho más gloriosa que aquélla. Pues aquélla estuvo impregnada por el sufrimiento, pero la segunda traerá la diadema de la divina gloria».

REFLExIóN DE LA SEMANA

LA SEGUNDA COLECTA de hoy es para el Fondo de la Jubilación de Religiosos. Gracias.

SERVICIO PENITENCIAL Y DEVOCION A LA DIVINA MISERI-CORDIA. Hoy domingo 11de diciembre tendremos un Servicio Penitencial de 12:00 p.m. a 4:00 p.m. Habrá diferentes sacerdotes disponibles para las confesiones. La devoción a la Divina Misericordia será de 3:00 p.m. a 4:00 p.m. y concluirá con la bendición del Santísimo. Todos están invitados.

LA VIRGEN se llevará mañana lunes 12 de diciembre a las 7:00 p.m. a la casa de Gladys Charries en Sion Farm, donde se rezará el rosario y per-manecerá allí por todo el mes. Para los que no saben donde Gladys vive, nos reuniremos en el Shanty de Sion Farm a las 6:30 p.m. para salir a las 6:45p.m. Todos estàn invitados.

ADORACION. La adoración del Santísimo en la capilla de San Miguel continúa este martes, 13 de diciembre de 7:00 de la mañana a 6:00 de la tarde.

MISALES. Los misales y calendarios están a la venta los domingos después de la misa, el precio del misal es de $6.50 y el calendario $2.00. También los pueden obrener en la rectoría en horas de oficina.

SOBRES. Las cajas de sobres de contribución para el nuevo año 2017 están disponibles los domingo después de la misa o en la rectoría en horas de oficina. Tenemos cajas de sobres disponibles para aquellos que les gustaría tener una.

MISAS DE AGUINALDO. Nuestras tradicionales misas de aguinaldo co-menzaràn el próximo viernes 16 de diciembre a las 6:00 a.m. los sábados 17 y 24 de diciembre serán a las 8:00 a.m. Despúes de la misa tendremos nuestro acostumbrado desayuno. Todos están invitados a participar de ésta bella tradicción. Debido a las misas de aguinaldo no habá misas por la mañana ni por la noche. Gracias.

FLORES DE NAVIDAD. Nuevamente acudimos a su generosidad para que nos ayuden a sufragar el costo de las flores de pascua que embellecerán la iglesia ésta Navidad. Les agradecemos mucho su contribución.

ARBOL ANGEL. Este año nuevamente extenderemos nuestro espíritu de Navidad de dar regalos a las personas sin hogar. Hay etiquetas en el “Arbol Angel” que indican que cosas pueden comprar. Favor de poner las etiqu-etas en el regalo embuelto para así poder identificarlo para la distribución. Los regalos los pondremos debajo del árbol. El último día para traer los regalos será el 22 de diciembre. Gracias por ayudarnos a extender la mano a las personas sin hogar al incluírlos en su lista de regalos de ésta Navidad.

LA SEGUNDA COLECTA del próximo domingo 18 de diciembre será para la electricidad y el mantenimiento de la iglesia. Gracias.
