Our vision is to see people CONNECT with Jesus in a meaningful way. We want people to know a life of faith that is about the EXPERIENCE of walking with Jesus daily. We want to see people RESTOREd to a right relationship to God and to one another through the cross of Christ. And we want to see this same pattern of discipleship REPEATed time and again in Memphis. SERVING AND SHARING JESUS AT THE MEMPHIS UNION MISSION Thanks very much to the 34 volunteers who helped provide for the physical and spiritual needs of those being ministered to at the Memphis Union Mission on September 30. Immanuel purchased food and our volunteers prepared and served lunch to about 150 people who were homeless, hungry, and hurting. Prior to serving lunch, Immanuel led the chapel service with Pastor Will sharing that Jesus Christ has become for us wisdom from God through the message of the cross and empty tomb based on 1 Corinthians 1:18-31. The worship songs were led by our Praise Team. The help everyone provided at the Mission is very much appreciated. Jesus said, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 COLOMBIANS TO CONNECT WITH IMMANUEL MISSION TEAM IN GUATEMALA Immanuel is sending a mission team to Guatemala during October 7-14. Members of this mission team will include not only Immanuel members but also representatives from Immanuel’s partner in ministry from Gachancipa, Colombia who will meet us in Guatema-la. The unique approach of this mission trip is for our Colombian partners to connect with Immanuel, as well as with our Guatemalan partners, so they can experience cross-cultural ministry in a foreign country as we do mission work together among the people of Guatemala. The mission team’s main focus will include sharing Jesus while visiting

with about 400 families and planting fruit trees throughout the village of El Durazno, conducting a school-wide event for 300 children at El Durazno public school, and working with the children’s ministry at La Santa Cruz. Our theme is “One Jesus. One Mission. All Nations.” which serves as our commitment to live out the Great Commission and Acts 1:8. Pray that God would give wisdom, unity, and strength to our team and Guatema-lan partners. Ask the Lord of the Har-vest to bring people to faith in Jesus Christ as we demonstrate and proclaim

the Gospel.

DON’T MISS THE WONDERFUL WEEKEND OF REFORMATION EVENTS IN MEMPHIS!

The Mid-South District, LCMS will be celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation with two great events in October! The first event is a FREE "Reformation Choral Concert" on Friday, October 13 at 7: 1 5 PM at the Rose Theater on the University of Memphis Campus (470 University, Memphis 38111). Voices from across the Mid-South District will join together with mem-bers of the U of M Collegiate Choir and Memphis Symphony Orchestra for this stirring musical tribute featuring both Lutheran hymns and Bach classics. Seat-ing will be limited, so be sure to visit the event page at the following link: and RESERVE YOUR SEATS TODAY

The other wonderful Reformation celebration will be a traditional German OK-TOBERFEST on Saturday, October 14! This fun-filled festival will take place right here at Immanuel Lutheran from 10 AM-2 PM. Bratwurst, locally brewed beer and an awesome Oompah band will create an authentic German festival at-mosphere, while activities like a bouncehouse, games, face painting and a Chicken Dance contest will add an element of fun for the kids. The day will also include a live auction of themed baskets and even a Martin and Katie Luther costume contest!

Tickets for this day of family fun are just $10 for adults (includes meal & 2 beers or non-alcoholic beverages) and $5 for ages 4-12 (includes meal & bever-age). No charge for kids under age 4. Follow the event link below for complete OKTOBERFEST details and to purchase tickets in advance (tickets will also be available at the gate). To get your OKTOBERFEST Tickets Click Here

The Mid-South District would like to thank THRIVENT FINANCIAL for generously sponsoring this Reformation Celebration weekend!

GUESS WHO IS TURNING 100 YEARS YOUNG? Dorothy Schaefer will be turning 100 on Oct. 8th. We will have cake to celebrate her special day in between the early and late service in the narthex. Also, if you would like to bring a card or make a card for her you can give it to her that day or give to Tracey Cassidy and she will make sure she gets it. WE ARE TRYING TO SURPRISE HER SO DON’T MENTION IT TO DOROTHY! THANKS! CALLING ALL MEN Immanuel would like to form a men’s choir to sing once a month at worship. We would practice each Sunday for about 20 minutes after the early service. If you are interested in being a part of this choir we ask that you meet by the piano in the sanctuary on Sunday, October 8th so that we can prepare a song for November and December. If you are interested, but can not be at the first rehearsal on the 8th, call Allen Piepenbrink at 731-803-9397.

BASKET TO BE AUCTIONED AT REFORMATION CELEBRATION The Mid-South District has asked all churches in the district to provide a themed basket to be auctioned off at the Reformation celebration on October 14th which will be held here at Immanuel. All proceeds will go to LCMS missions. Our basket will be a Gentlemen’s Basket and we are looking for donations of items for the basket. For the hunting gentleman things like warm socks, gloves, hats or hand warmers would be great. For any gentleman small tools, duct tape, a men’s devotional book, bug repellant, etc. Use your creativity and help out by do-nating an item or two to be put in the basket. There will be a large basket on the information table for you to drop off your items. If you have any questions or if you wish to make a cash donation to purchase items please see Debbie Goedel or Dee Sobocienski.
