Dearest Parishioners,

Peace in the Risen Lord. I find it most beautiful and providential that we celebrate Mother’s Day during May. May is the month when Spring is in full bloom. Life begins anew in nature and our lives are energized as we spend more time outside. We give thanks to God for our mothers: the bearers of life in their maternal womb and the ones who nourished us during those first months of our being. The precious gift of life – human and throughout nature – is a true miracle and sign of continuing hope in the world. As we honor mothers, let us not forget those women who may have been mothers to us in a spiritual and caring sense: adoptive mothers and women who may have nourished us in life’s journey. During May we also honor in a special way Mary, the mother of Jesus and our Mother. In her womb, God’s eternal love and mercy for humanity took flesh and dwelt among us as one of us. As Jesus was leaving this world upon the cross, He entrusted His mother not only to the Beloved Disciple but also to each one of us – His beloved. Mary is celebrated as “Mother of the Church.” As we honor her with the May Crowning, the praying of the Rosary and through other gestures of love, we open our hearts and lives to her maternal presence. She loves all of us, but especially those who are most in need of her loving care and accompaniment. Many Marian prayers invoke her maternal and merciful assistance especially in times of need and “at the hour of our death.” Mary wants to lead us to her Son both in this life and in the life to come – eternal life. Throughout May, Father Armando and I will remember your mothers and our mothers at Holy Mass. Let us honor our mothers – living and deceased – with concrete gestures of love and tenderness. After the love of God, the love of our parents is the most important commandment. A most blessed Mother’s Day to all mothers. May our Blessed Mother and your children enfold you in love.

Every person has been given gifts from the Holy Spirit. These are called “charisms” and they are used to build God’s kingdom on earth. While many people are able to recognize their natural talents and abilities, they may be unsure of their charisms as Christian Stewards. If you know someone who is struggling for a direction in life, give them a little encouragement. Help them discern their charisms and how God is calling them to use them. Remember - no gift is too small or insignificant in God’s salvation plan.

RELIGIOUS ED. (PREP) CALL-OUT MESSAGES

Many of us ignore or hang up on a number we do not recognize. I get it: most of those calls are nuisance calls. However, if you receive a call from the parish, it is not a nuisance – it’s something you need to know regarding religious education. It is very important that you LISTEN to the messages from the parish call out system. Do not ignore it and then call back the number wondering if someone called you and what you need to know. This only ties up the office lines and creates problems. LISTEN to the message and you will know who called and why. It is your job to LISTEN. In addition to the calls and text messages, important information can be found on the Parish of the Holy Cross social media outlets. Please check the parish website and Facebook pages frequently. And please pass the word!

FIRST COMMUNION 2020 First Holy Communion will be received by students at regular Sunday Mass the weekend of October 3-4 and 10-11:

We will be providing information on How to Receive the Eucharist and How to Make Confession. This can be found in their books. We will go over both sacraments during class in September. Families wanting a First Communion certificate must request one in writing (order form will be available when we return to classes in the fall).

student/parent interviews. We will follow the calendar for Confessions, practices,

and Confirmation on May 23 with Bishop Sullivan. There will be NO pictures.

ROSARY BY CANDLELIGHT

The Parish will live-stream The Rosary by Candlelight on Wednesday evening, May 13th from St. Mary’s Church at 7 PM. We are hoping to have each decade of the rosary prayed in a different language. Please plan to tune in and spread the word to others.

Estimados Feligreses,

Paz en el Señor Resucitado. Lo más hermoso y providencial es que celebremos el Día de las Madres durante el mes de mayo. Mayo es el mes en que la primavera está en plena floración. La vida comienza de nuevo en la naturaleza y nuestras vidas se energizan a medida que pasamos más tiempo afuera. Damos gracias a Dios por nuestras madres: las portadoras de la vida en su matriz materna y las que nos alimentaron durante esos primeros meses de nuestro ser. El precioso regalo de la vida - humano y en toda la naturaleza - es un verdadero milagro y un signo de esperanza continua en el mundo. Al honrar a las madres, no olvidemos a aquellas mujeres que pueden haber sido madres para nosotros en un sentido espiritual y afectuoso: madres adoptivas y mujeres que pudieron alimentarnos en el camino de la vida. Durante el mes de mayo, también honramos de manera especial a María, la madre de Jesús y nuestra Madre. En su vientre, el eterno amor y misericordia de Dios por la humanidad se hizo carne y habitó entre nosotros como uno de nosotros. Cuando Jesús estaba dejando este mundo en la cruz, confió a Su madre no solo al discípulo amado, sino también a cada uno de nosotros, su amado. María es celebrada como "Madre de la Iglesia". A medida que la honramos con la coronación de mayo, la oración del rosario y a través de otros gestos de amor, abrimos nuestros corazones y nuestras vidas a su presencia materna. Ella nos ama a todos, pero especialmente a aquellos que más necesitan su cuidado y acompañamiento amoroso. Muchas oraciones marianas invocan su asistencia materna y misericordiosa, especialmente en momentos de necesidad y "a la hora de nuestra muerte". María quiere llevarnos a su Hijo tanto en esta vida como en la vida venidera: la vida eterna. EL ROSARIO A LA LUZ DE LAS VELAS

La parroquia transmitirá en vivo el "Rosario a la Luz de las Velas" el miércoles 13 de mayo desde la iglesia de Sta. María a las 7 PM después de la Misa de las 6:30 PM. Esperamos rezar cada década del rosario en un idioma diferente. Por favor, acompáñenos a través de nuestra página parroquial de Facebook y corran la voz a los demás.
