May the light of freedom, coming to all darkened lands, flame brightly — until at last the
darkness is no more. May the turbulence of our age yield to a true time of peace, when men
and nations shall share a life that honors the dignity of each, the brotherhood of all.
~ Dwight D. Eisenhower
I hope all of you enjoyed celebrating July 4
th, our nation’s
birthday; we had a beautiful day for celebrations. I know we
have needed rain, but a deluge is not what I had in mind.
We are fast approaching the time that we elect our new
Board and select committee chairmen. If you are interested in
a valuable educational experience and an opportunity to learn
about Desk & Derrick, then this is your chance. Contact Kelly
Rains, Mary Combs or anyone already on the Board if you
have any questions or concerns.
Denver, CO. will be hosting our Association Convention in
September; the registration deadline is July 31st. The field
trips, seminars, speakers and continuing education classes
are such an asset to each of us. The opportunities for
learning are everywhere when you attend the convention.
What a great way to meet new people and visit with some
you might already know.
If you cannot attend convention then be sure to visit the
ADDC website, it is full of information.
In 2018 the Wichita Club will be hosting the Regional
meeting, what are you willing to volunteer for?
The Board has been discussing ways to invest the money we
currently have in a CD that will serve our Club in the best
way. We would welcome any of your suggestions. If you
have anything that you would like the Board to look at,
contact one of us, we are here to represent you.
Until next month, Marcia

July 2016
True independence and freedom can only exist in doing what's right……………..
Brigham Young
As we celebrate the birthday of our nation please stop and take a moment to give thanks to our men
and women who fight so valiantly for our freedom. They are in harm’s way all the time and because
of those brave souls in the past, present and future we enjoy the freedoms that we have. We are truly
a blessed nation; let’s vow to work hard to keep it that way.
It is hard to believe that half of the year is over….it has been my privilege and honor to be your
President and help to lead this association. I could not have done it without your support and faith in
me. I thank you for this great opportunity.
We are drawing nearer to our 65th Annual Educational Conference and Convention. I hope you have
all sent in your registrations and are looking forward to a great educational experience in Denver. The
Denver Club and Region VII are working hard to make this an incredible time for everyone. We have
two FREE Seminars….”SO YOU WANT TO WIN AN AMIEE” AND “SO YOU WANT TO BE
AN RD”. I think you will find both of these seminars informative and entertaining. And it never hurts
to learn more about this association and what it takes to make it run. Even if you do not anticipate
running for RD, it is a great learning experience.
The deadline for nominations for the 2017 ADDC Officers was June 10, 2016.
The following nominations were received prior to the deadline: President Elect – Christina Forth, Edmonton Vice President – Penny Jacobs, Three Rivers Vice President - Terry Ligon, Graham Secretary – Keith, Atkins, El Dorado Treasurer – Tammy Watkins, Enid The forms and photos of the nominees were reviewed by the members of the 2016 ADDC
Nominating Committee, and were approved as received. At this time, the 2016 Nominating
Committee presents this slate of officers, to be presented at the 2016 ADDC Convention for
vote.
Be sure you are getting your official Credentials reports in for the delegate so that your delegate can
vote at the convention. These forms must be sent in and on record to your regional Credentials region
representatives so that your delegates can vote for you the member.
It is also time for your nominating committees to be working on nominations for the clubs. I know
that there are so many of you out there that have so much to offer and we sure could use your
expertise and creativity. Please think about “Stepping Up” and helping lead your club and this
association to even greater heights. It can be scary at first but all of you can do it and do it well.
There are many people who will help you and whom you can lean on if you need to.
Let’s encourage our new members and our younger members to “Step Up To Leadership” in our
clubs and on our association board. They are our future and will be there to continue this great legacy
we are a part of. The younger generation plays a big part in all aspects of this association and this
industry, let’s continue to encourage them and give them the opportunity to grow and lead this
wonderful association of ours.
Have a wonderful and educational July and keep recruiting, renewing and rejuvenating our member-
ship and PLAN TO MATTER every day!!!!!!

information to keep everyone up-to-date so if you would like to add to that
publication please let me know.
The 2019 ADDC Convention Bid has been submitted to the board for Region
VI to host the convention in Kansas City, KS. The GAC and Co-GAC’s are
planning a trip to Kansas City over the weekend of July 29th to look at hotels
and the convention center. We feel that things are moving along well and
plan to present a splendid report of what we can offer in 2019. I would also
like to thank the clubs that have already stepped up and offered to sponsor an
event for this convention. I feel so blessed to work with such a great group of
people and the clubs they represent.
Have a great month and I look forward to reading your exciting club reports
which enlighten me on how your club continues to grow in knowledge of the
energy industry. Remember to talk to your co-workers about Desk & Derrick
and inform them of all the great things ADDC has to offer.
Happy 4th of July!!!

Reasons to Celebrate A message from your KIOGA President, Edward Cross
Looking back at the challenges Kansas independent oil and gas producers have faced over the past
79 years and the multitude of political barriers we have overcome, ours is the ultimate story of blood, sweat,
tears, willpower, unity, and passion. As independents, we know the oil and natural gas business is fraught with
tremendous risk and carries extreme geological, commercial, and financial exposure. These very challenges
have defined the generations of Kansas independent oil and gas producers who have played and continue to
play a vital role in meeting our nation’s energy needs. And it is time to celebrate the industry’s
accomplishments.
Our nation’s 21st century oil and natural gas renaissance has made domestically produced oil and
natural gas economical and abundant. This market-driven success has helped our nation achieve significant
emission reductions. The oil and natural gas industry played a significant role in reducing U.S. greenhouse
gas emissions by over 20% over the last decade and U.S. carbon emissions are now near 27-year lows.
Contrary to what many activists espouse, fossil fuels and environmental stewardship are not and never have
been mutually exclusive. The fact is responsible oil and natural gas development has been and will continue to
be a key component to making the U.S. a world leader in emission reductions.
The Kansas Independent Oil & Gas Association (KIOGA) was founded in 1937 by a small but
determined group of pioneering producers. KIOGA has since grown into the lead state and national advocate
for Kansas independent oil and natural gas producers. Over the years, independents got smarter too. They
learned that organization, numbers, and votes gave them leverage in the government corridors of our state and
nation. Today, KIOGA is driven and led by a robust membership of over 4,200 producers and service
companies. Successfully advocating on behalf of Kansas’ independent oil and natural gas producers for 79
years, KIOGA continues to stand as the primary voice for Kansas independent oil and natural gas producers.
Kansas independent oil and gas producers have survived a past marked by increasingly frequent
cycles of high and low prices and increasing public misunderstanding of their work and opposition to their
activities. For the future, we can expect more of the same. But we will find the right ways to survive in the
future as well.
Today’s Kansas independent producer no longer peers out from under oil-soaked hard hats. They
may have degrees in geology or petroleum engineering hanging on the wall beside diplomas for business
administration or finance. They can speak fluently in the language of bankers and analysts. If they don’t have
the knowledge to handle legal and regulatory tasks a thousand times more complex than those faced in the not
so distant past, he or she may have staff or access to professionals that specialize in traversing the legal and
financial potholes on the road to success.
Kansas independents will find the people, service support, and technology they need to meet
ever-increasing demand for energy. They will use and invent better ways to produce oil and natural gas, and
they will learn to produce at a lower cost. They will also do their jobs with a continuing respect for the
environment as responsibility has and will continue to be an integral part of Kansas independents’ operations.
Today, crude oil and natural gas market dynamics, federal and state policy issues, government
regulation, and constant litigation by environmentalist opponents are fundamental challenges to independent
producers. Yet, independents simply will not give up. They never have, despite the challenges, because
risk-taking is a way of life.
Looking to the future, independents will continue to occupy the front lines, carrying hope,
resourcefulness, and know-how to meet an increasing need for oil and natural gas. I was recently asked by
media about the Kansas oil and gas industry story, what it means, and what is important to know about the
Kansas oil and gas industry. The oil and gas industry is an exciting industry. Innovation is a constant. I want
people to know how hard the Kansas oil and gas industry works and how focused our industry is on
performance and continuous improvement. Our industry never stops thinking about the next improvement,
technology, or innovation that will improve our nation’s energy security. But most importantly, I want people to
know that the Kansas oil and gas industry isn’t just working hard on what we learned. We are working hard to
improve on what we can do in the future.
