10:00–15:00MEDICAL LEADER SEMINAR Ross RutschmanThis presentation encompasses what is accepted worldwide as the “Best Practices” standard for medical call processing and quality assurance methodologies. 12:00–13:00 LUNCH BREAK

15:00–15:15 AFTERNOON TEA & COFFEE BREAK

25 JANUARY9:00–9:30 OPENING SESSION: WELCOME TO THE MIDDLE EAST NAVIGATOR & DISPATCHER OF THE YEAR AWARDJerry Overton

9:30–10:30PATIENT PATHWAY FROM INITIAL CALL TO HOSPITAL DISCHARGE Thomas ReimannThere are few, if any, health care services around the world that can in one system see a patient’s journey from first call to “999” until discharge from the hospital. The challenge is often that individual organisations involved in a patient’s journey in a health care system have information platforms that are not able to cross-communicate. Hamad Medical Corporation Ambulance service has recently implemented an ePCR, that is linked to Cerner, which is system of choice for the hospitals. This integration enables us to identify specific pathways and deduct learnings from initial triage done by ProQA®, on-scene medical intervention, and final treatment and findings in the hospitals.

10:30–11:00MORNING TEA & COFFEE BREAK

11:00–12:00STEPPING UP TO SUPERVISORAndre JonesDo you have the willingness to assume responsibility? Are you capable of resilience and flexibility? What is your level of emotional maturity and self–confidence? How would you rate your service mentality and personal integrity? If you answered positively to all of these, you are ready to be promoted. Congratulations! What next? This session helps the new super-visor understand how to cultivate employees in a way that would inspire them to do what is necessary to achieve the goals of the organisation.

12:00–13:00LUNCH BREAK

13:00–14:00MYTHBUSTERSChip HlavecekHave you ever heard that the Academy dictates response modes or that the protocols “make me check my brain at the door”? In this session, we will debunk the most common myths of the Priority Dispatch System™ by providing supporting evidence and the true philosophy behind the use of the protocols.

14:00–15:00PROTOCOL UPDATES IMPACT ON COMPLIANCE AND QUALITYSonia Bent & Sliman BounouhThis presentation will highlight the changes in the medical protocol from version to vesion and how this will impact the staff performance and the quality review. it will also explain the implemtation phases of the protocol new versions so the risk of errors is reduced. We will highlight some ex-amples where the change is minor but with high impact on the protocol final coding and on the PAI links.

15:00–15:30AFTERNOON TEA & COFFEE BREAK

15:30–16:30HIGH-PERFORMANCE EMDRoss RutschmanHigh-Performance could be described as a performance that is superior or better. How is that accomplished? This session will focus on the EMD Calltaker and: – Critical Thinking Skills – Situational Awareness – High-Performance CPR in the Call Center

26 JANUARY9:30–10:30WHY PEOPLE DIE IN FIRESGary GalassoThis presentation will uncover those elements that contribute to the loss of life in fires, including the psychology of the fire caller, the misinformed public, and the “Bystander Effect” of crowd behaviour. Most of all, we will discuss what the Emergency Fire Dispatcher can do to help address these life-threatening issues.

10:30–11:00MORNING TEA & COFFEE BREAK

11:00–12:00EMD FRONTLINE STRESS BEHIND THE SCENES – THE DISPATCHER–PARAMEDIC DIVIDEAlan BolamThis presentation addresses the importance of organisational climate for both contributing to and mitigating the effects of EMD stress.

12:00–13:00LUNCH BREAK

13:00–14:00THE IMPORTANCE OF WORLDWIDE PROTOCOL COMPLIANCEPatricia DukesLearn more about why protocol compliance is so important to emergency dispatch—especially when it comes to helping achieve the best outcome possible and providing the best customer service. Attendees will leave this session with a better understanding of why cultural awareness is a vital part of any agency in order to achieve high levels of protocol compliance.

14:00–15:00MEETING THE CHALLENGE OF RISING DEMAND: OPTIMISING RESOURCES WITH EVIDENCE-BASED DISPATCH Jerry OvertonSaving lives begins at dispatch, and so does saving valuable resources that can respond. Internationally, public safety agencies are experiencing unprecedented increases in call volumes with only a limited financial ability to increase response capabilities. The session will provide the reasons for the increase and focus on how using accurate calltaking can ensure that the most appropriate response is sent, if necessary, to the right acuity level, saving valuable resources for emergencies when lives are most at risk.

15:00–15:30AFTERNOON TEA & COFFEE BREAK

15:30–16:30HIGH-PERFORMANCE QRoss RutschmanHave we lost sight of the goal of Quality Improvement? Have we been focusing on compliance so much that we fail to see the big picture? High-Performance Q looks not only at compliance but also focuses on performance. How does this work? This workshop will help you think outside the box.
