Martha Warford, Executive Director

When the Board of Directors adopted this tag line, it was because it expressed in a few short words what happens every day here at Beverly Farm.

Growing…Throughout history and remaining true today, the individuals that live here at Beverly Farm have many special talents and work hard to improve and grow those talents. Those with athletic talent strive to compete and do well in Special Olympic events. The thought of winning that Gold medal inspires them to practice and put in the hours necessary so they can do their best during competition.

Those with artistic talent demonstrate their creativity and communicate their feelings through the amazing artwork they produce. These works are displayed through our “I’m an Artist” program at a local art center. Many paintings have been bought and are proudly displayed in homes and office.

Living…Living here at Beverly Farm provides many opportunities to make it a satisfying life. The Developmental Training Program provides many diverse choices for working and earning a pay check. One area of contract work is the assembly of key tags (which initiates competition to see who can assemble the most key tags in a day). Another contract area makes bones out of PVC pipe, which are then sold for use in organ donors. The Busy Bee Bakery is indeed kept busy with orders for delicious gooey butter cake, cookies and other desserts. Some individuals have found their niche working with housekeeping duties and improving their janitorial skills. Whatever their choice of work, it provides the individual with a sense of pride.

Once their daily work is finished, our residents have opportunities to enjoy life by going to the rec-reation center for various activities, or going in to the community for dining and shopping, as well as movies and bowling.

Caring…The “glue” that holds everything together here at Beverly Farm is the fact that so many of the staff care about our individuals as if they were members of their own family.

These great employees routinely take residents out for shopping, dinner, or into their homes for the Holidays, all on their own time. Many are also known to buy, out of their own hard-earned money, special items that are enjoyed by a particular individual. This makes that resident feel special, and is all a part of the caring provided here at Beverly Farm.

People who live and work at Beverly Farm experience a life amongst their peers, developing friendships and caring about each other.

Growing, Living, Caring- it’s what we do!

Why do you do what you do? This past December Beverly Farm was once again transformed into Santa’s cottage. Gifts arrived almost daily from families, friends and supporters from the community. Every resident in every cottage received presents from Santa, which is amazing and heartwarming.

It makes you wonder, why, why does the staff and volunteers care so much and so deeply about my loved one? We asked three long time employees of Beverly Farm to explain why they do what they do.

Travis Hunt, the Q at Group Home 1, started at Beverly Farm in 1998 as a DSP (Direct Service Provider). He was 17 years old and still in high school. Throughout the years, Travis attended college while working at Beverly Farm to obtain his college degree. Travis has worked in many different cottages and in many different roles before he landed in his current role of being a Q. Travis says why do I do what I do? I do it for the residents. Once when he was on a vacation a resident was having a hard time, the staff called Travis and he talked him through it, and it did not bother Travis, because “He was my buddy and he needed me”.

Lori Rodgers, Training Manager, has been a fixture at Beverly Farm for 27 years. She has worked in Development Training, Q of Group Home 4, got her nursing home administration license, found a husband and has been in her current position since 2005. Lori is not only a staff member, but she has a sister who lives at Beverly Farm. Yes; being a family member does have an impact on why she does what she does, however in her current role, she feels that the positive beginning with the new staff helps give a better understanding of the role that they play in the lives of the residents.

Finally, Rachel Lollis, Group Homes (Licensed) Administrator, started in 1993, she had a friend that worked here and she thought it would be fun. She admits that the job has had moments but the good times have always outweighed the bad times. She loves the relationships that the residents build with the staff. Some residents even attended Rachel’s wedding in 1995; and they have been a part of her daughter’s life. Rachel states why I do what I do…the residents have become my extended family.

We understand the stress and emotions of what it takes for you to bring your child/sister/brother/cousin to live in a community such as Beverly Farm Foundation. As you can tell from these three employees, we are dedicated to the residents and their families that call Beverly Farm home. We hope everyone now understands why we do what we do….

Diamonds and Denim 2016 The 2016 Diamonds and Denim dinner auction to benefit Beverly Farm was held on Saturday, February 20th at The Commons at Lewis and Clark Community College, with special thanks to the evenings presenting sponsor Argosy Casino!

There was beautiful decorations, delicious food, spring like weather, and a good time was had by all! Our host Billy Greenwood, from local radio stations KLOU and The Bull, hosted the evening while throughout the night, attendees bid on various silent auction items and purchased tickets for the raffle items and the 50/50 drawing.

Auctioneer Tommy Ruyle, hosted the live auction which included items such as a vacation in Florida, first pitch at St. Louis Cardinals game, St. Louis Blues package, and two weekend stays at the Peabody Memphis just to name a few. The live auction alone raised over $18,000 for the residents of Beverly Farm!

The Glendale Riders, who are a local country, rock band, played well into the evening while attendees danced the night away. Other special guests of the evening included seven ofBeverly Farm’s residents as well as 12 BFF families. The night was a huge success and we are already looking forward to next years’ Diamonds and Deim Dinner Auction in February 2017! Thank you to everyone who helped make this night such a success! A huge Thank You to our Presenting Sponsor, Argosy
