Dad’s Day History

Father’s Day came about in the early 20th century to complement Mother’s Day. The first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane, WA, on June 19, 1910 and was brought about by Sonora Smart Dodd, who invented her own Father’s Day to celebrate her father, a Civil War Veteran, William Jackson Smart, a single parent who brought up his 6 children. She had originally planned to have it on June 5th, her fathers birthday, but since there was not enough time to plan and organize, it was deferred to the third Sunday of June. A bill to accord national recognition of the holiday was introduced to Congress in 1913, but Congress resisted, “fearing that it might become commercialized”. In 1957 Margaret Chase Smith, A Maine Senator, wrote a proposal accusing Congress of ignoring fathers for 40 years, all the while honoring mothers, singling out just one of our 2 parents. It didn’t become a national holiday until 1966, when President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. In 1972, President Richard Nixon signed it into law.

Q: When Should I Use Point Bump?

A: Doing the Point Bump the month before Quarterly Statements go out is always a great idea. This will cause an award to go out to those people who are close to getting an award, so that they won’t get a Quarterly Statement. Awards Certificates are 80%-90% redeemed, so doing this also creates increased customer visits and more revenue. Spend your marketing dollars wisely. Doing the Point Bump the month before a typically slow month is also a great idea. Because of the increase in customer visits, you have now turned a slow month into a busy month! You can also automate the Point Bump feature . Call your Coach today to help you set this up, so that you can set it and let the system do the work for you!

Be Objective - Imagine you are reading the results from someone else’s business. Take Action - Solve the members’ problem. Make them feel valued for their time, and reward their honesty. You can send a reply email directly from the survey results and address the issue with the member.

This is a great tool to show the member that you care about their recent experience and want to do everything you can to make their future visits enjoyable. Always track your actions in the Guest Diary.
