Therefore, my thoughts naturally gravitate towards that for which I am thankful. I have much to be thankful for. As you know, my second grandchild was re- cently born. I never cease to be amazed at how one tiny screaming human can come out of a larger screaming human, but somehow it happens. That grandsons birth was precipitated by an auto acci- dent involving my daughter. I am thankful that both mother and child were spared any significant in- jury! Im thankful for my family, my friends, my neighbors, my church membersYou get the point. The list could go on forever, and if you took the time to seriously sit down and catalog all you have to be thankful for, I bet your list could go on forever, too. As we head into Advent and prepare to celebrate with thankful hearts Gods greatest gift, I challenge you to ponder what you are thankful for. Ill simplify the task by limiting the scope. What are you thankful for within the Hiss sphere of your life? Im thankful for leadership and a congregation who are patient and gracious with me in spite of my shortcomings. Im thankful for the way things seem to happenaround the church, and the people who make them happen, without me ever knowing they were in the works. Im thankful for the way lives are transformed by degrees through the study of Gods Word and the work of Holy Spirit. Im thankful for the way Jesus is seenin Parkville and be- yond as people choose to trust God and embody Gods love for the world by emulating Jesuslife and love for others. As we begin to celebrate with thankful hearts the gift of Gods Son, what blessings are you thankful for? In what ways has God been a blessing to you? More importantly, in what ways have you been blessed to be a blessing to others? I hope you have much to be thankful for. I hope all the more that you have given others a lot to be thankful for through your embodying the love of Jesus for the world around you. Gods peace to you ,

Feeling Thankful

As you read this, your Thanksgiving may be little more than aging leftovers in the fridge, but as I write

it Thanksgiving is more than a week away. Therefore, my thoughts naturally gravitate towards that for which I am thankful. I have much to be thankful for. As you know, my second grandchild was re-

cently born. I never cease to be amazed at how one tiny screaming human can come out of a larger screaming human, but somehow it happens. That grandson’s birth was precipitated by an auto acci-dent involving my daughter. I am thankful that both mother and child were spared any significant in-

jury! I’m thankful for my family, my friends, my neighbors, my church members… You get the point. The list could go on forever, and if you took the time to seriously sit down and catalog all you have to

be thankful for, I bet your list could go on forever, too.

As we head into Advent and prepare to celebrate with thankful hearts God’s greatest gift, I challenge you to ponder what you are thankful for. I’ll simplify the task by limiting the scope. What are you

thankful for within the Hiss sphere of your life? I’m thankful for leadership and a congregation who are patient and gracious with me in spite of my shortcomings. I’m thankful for the way things seem to

“happen” around the church, and the people who make them happen, without me ever knowing they were in the works. I’m thankful for the way lives are transformed by degrees through the study of

God’s Word and the work of Holy Spirit. I’m thankful for the way Jesus is “seen” in Parkville and be-yond as people choose to trust God and embody God’s love for the world by emulating Jesus’ life and love for others.

As we begin to celebrate with thankful hearts the gift of God’s Son, what blessings are you thankful for? In what ways has God been a blessing to you? More importantly, in what ways have you been blessed to be a blessing to others? I hope you have much to be thankful for. I hope all the more that

you have given others a lot to be thankful for through your embodying the love of Jesus for the world around you.

God’s peace to you ,

To My Hiss family and community, This is months overdue, but I would like to thank you for the collegiate opportunity you assisted me with, through the scholarship I was offered. I am very grateful for Hiss’ continued support throughout my life. Not only the congregation, but the youth and leaders in LABeL youth ministry have had a profound impact on the person I am proud to be today. I grew in my love and knowledge of God and all of his people, experienced volunteer work during my summers at CAMP JOY, as well as shared countless memories with life-long friends I have made whether it be in Sunday school pageants, or Ocean City retreats to ROCK! Love, Kristin Handley Thanks to all of the Hiss Boscov’s shoppers who supported October 17 Friends Helping Friends Event. Hiss earned $135 from the sale of the $5 passes. Our best year yet! Thanks to all of the Hiss Holy Grazers for their support. Hiss earned $98.04 from Bertucci’s Restaurant. Thank you to Frankie Handley and Jacob Schwaab for giving of their time to paint the 1st floor stairwell in the education building. The Trustees Thank you Pastor Tim for the visits while I was in the hospital. Thank you to all my Hiss Family for the prayers, cards, support and visits. Love to All, Rosalie Maurer

Sunday , January 14th Special Envelopes for Human Relations Day

We are called to acknowledge the overlooked and ignored. And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’ Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Matthew 25:40-43 (NRSV) We are meant to be a voice for the voiceless. Speak out for those who cannot speak, for the rights of all the destitute. Proverbs 31:8 (NRSV) We are ALL God’s children. For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed. Psalm 139:13-16 (NRSV) When we give on Human Relations Day, we are supporting community outreach, social justice and work with at-risk youth. And it’s not just our congregation! Our congregation joins thousands of other United Methodist churches to love and care for the children of God. Look for the special envelopes in your bulletin on Sunday, January 14th.

1 Corinthians 12:12 12 For just as

the body is one and has many members,

and all the members of the body,

though many, are one body, so it is with

Christ.

“Connected” is a new way of ensuring

everyone stays connected to the body, regardless

of their circumstances. Two person “Connection

Teams” commit to reach out to church members

whose circumstances prevent them from staying

connected. Connection Teams simply visit, listen,

and love. In so doing, they make sure every

member of the body stays connected..

Approximately 20 people have volunteered

to serve on the teams and visitation of the shut-ins

has begun. Many are bringing back good reports

of their visits. If you are interested in serving on

one of the 2 person teams, please contact Janey in

the office (410-668-5665 or

[email protected]).

NEW JOB TITLE

serve as coordinator of the “Connected Visitation

Teams”. I will be more visible on Sunday

mornings, serving as Coordinator of Hospitality,

meeting and greeting new guests and regular

attendees at Hiss. Just wait and see how I grow

into other parts of the new position. I am looking

forward to this new role. Janey Snyder

(Bride’s Room) It doesn’t get much more dramatic: rescued baby,

life in the courts of Pharaoh, parting the Red Sea, leading his people out of Egypt…Moses’ life was one challenge after the next, but although he resisted God’s calling, by the end of his life he successfully fulfilled the role he was given. Join award-winning author Adam Hamilton as he travels from Egypt to Mt. Sinai, the Nile, the Red Sea, and the wilderness exploring the sites of Moses’ life. As Hamilton shares historical information, archaeological data, and biblical text, you’ll gain a better understanding of Moses’ significance in your life today, and you’ll discover how you, too, can turn your own reluctance into boldness. The class will be on break in December, following the last session on Prayer on December 3rd.

GOD'S HOLY WORD MADE FLESH

(John 1:14)

The prophets sang God's mystery

Unto the longing earth,

Our Savior comes to set us free,

Behold, Incarnate Word!

In mortal flesh, yet still divine,

This day is born to us

The Light that in the darkness shines;

God's holy Word made flesh.

The angels bow in wondered awe

To see this One they love

Now lying helpless in the straw,

The King of Heav'n above!

The holy Lord of time and space

Now comes, this world to bless,

To fill us with His boundless grace;

God's holy Word made flesh.

Now let creation leap for joy,

Ye heav'ns and earth be glad,

Come sinner, in your Lord rejoice,

With His salvation clad.

No longer need you fear the night,

For you, His blood is shed,

Rejoice in Him, your heart's delight;

God's holy Word made flesh.

THANK YOU,, M & M

As many of you know, this

year was the last year for the Fall Festival and

Ham and Oyster Dinner, as you know it now. For

more than 30 years, Mardy Peters has been the

driving force for this major fundraiser, along

with her faithful side-kick, Mary Macreadie. They

organize the dinner, the candy making, find

callers for the bake table and much more. Over

the years, this fundraiser has likely earned more

than $100,000 for Hiss Church.

There will no longer be any ham and

oyster dinners but the fall festival will likely

remain but it could take on a different form. Just

wait and see. There will be lots of places for

volunteers.

So for now, please take the time to say

thank you to these special ladies. Their work

seems to be endless. They work in so many other

areas, especially in the kitchen. They can the

beets, that we love so much; organize and

prepare the luncheons after funerals; serve as

trustees and many other things. So they will still

remain very busy at Hiss.

Thank you, Mary and Mardy, for your

many years of service. Everyone knows that we

will continue to see them in the kitchen or

wherever. God bless you, ladies.
