Shaw Library Tales

Books and reading fun are blooming up all over the place here at Shaw Library as spring has arrived! The primary grades have enjoyed story times on such topics as Dr. Seuss books, character education ties, dental care, classic books of literature, and fun favorites like pirates and Peter Pan. In addition, the third graders have been working on a compare and contrast project about fables and retellings using the story "Country Mouse, City Mouse." The upper grades are working on a unit on reference sources and defining information needs. They also have done some author studies this month that highlighted the genres of literature. The children are continuing to build on their library skills. This includes proper book care, locating books on the shelf, and learning about the Dewey Decimal System. We have also been focusing on the differences between fiction and non-fiction books. The children have been doing a great job with all this. Miss Nan and I are very proud of them. Please help the children to remember to bring their library books back on time and encourage them to share with you what we have done during library time. Happy Reading, Miss. Jones Shaw Librarian
