The Train—Box Car Five

Correspondant: Well, we went from summer to winter , now back to fall, crazy weather here. The holidays are

here and as usual we went straight from Labor Day into Christmas. But the fall brings with it a lot to do especially in

Americanism. We had our first Flags for First Graders and it went great with a nice group of well behaved and interest-

ed first graders. Next up is Mitzi Bond on September 30th at 1:45 pm. We’ll discuss those details at the promenade Sat-

urday the 24th of November. This is Thanksgiving weekend, but we decided not to change the prom date—so we hope

to see as many of you as we can that are still in town—there is a lot to discuss, many events in December and we need to

start setting a date and do initial planning for our Valentines steak dinner. We also need to coordinate a flag retirement

at Post 58, many flags are collecting and Flags Across America has many to drop off. A date has been set—we’ll discuss

it.

Roger and I and maybe Dan will be going to San Antonio December 1st for their annual pancake breakfast for nurses

training—Roger has been invited as locale Chef and Grand Commissaire Intendant and I as Grand Chef de Gare. It

should be a nice couple of days and we are going to try and get over to the Alamo.

Don’t forget to keep track of your hours and miles for Americanism, Forty and Eight hours and miles as well as for oth-

er organizations and patriotic things like scouting, elections. Did you go vote, you can count that time and miles. So a lot

to do and plan, a lot going on—and we know many of you work and are busy, appointments, etc., all we ask is to do

your best to support us. See you hopefully Saturday at the promenade.—Correspondant Renny

Above—Flags for First Graders season begins at Edgar Park Elementary School with a program on November 15th.

This is our second visit to Park. Still waiting for the first student to correctly pick out the Texas star on the flag! Special

thanks to Roger, Mary and Donnie for their help. Dale was busy over at Bradley giving them a veterans talk the same

day and time—so we are hard at work in our community. 84 students received their own flag and flag material for home.
