Summer is fast approaching and so is your future … so what’s next?

The Wingara Mura – Bunga Barrabugu Summer Program is the perfect way to get a taste of uni life over the summer holidays.

It’s free, it’s fun, and it’s designed just for you.

There are two programs:

– Wingara Mura – a thinking path

Wingara Mura is for students in Year 9 or 10 during 2014.

What is the Wingara Mura – Bunga Barrabugu Summer Program? It’s a short summer program run by the University of Sydney. You’ll stay on campus for a few days in January and see what university life is like. Meet our students and staff, take part in tutorials and try out new subjects to see what grabs your interest. You’ll also learn about entry pathways to uni, and the types of support available once you get here.

Am I eligible? The program is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who (in 2014) will be in Years 9 to 12 at high school. All you need is a statement of support from your school, your most recent school report and permission from your parents or guardians.

When is it?Wingara Mura is 14-16 January 2014.

Bunga Barrabugu is 13-17 January 2014.

How much does it cost? It’s completely free. There is no cost to you, or to your family, or school. The University of Sydney will pay for your travel, meals, accommodation and all other expenses associated with the summer program.

How do I apply?First, talk to your school. They can help you prepare your application and will provide a supporting statement. See page 3 for a step-by-step guide to the application process.

Thank you for considering your child’s application to the Wingara Mura – Bunga Barrabugu Summer Program here at the University of Sydney. The summer program is designed to give your child the chance to experience university first hand, and learn about the entry pathways and types of support available to them beyond school.

While here – and within a safe, mentoring and welcoming environment – they’ll be able to try out subjects, participate in fun learning activities and explore the campus.

They’ll also get to know and be inspired by other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and see real-life examples of how university can change people’s lives.

Before your child attends the program, we advise you to talk to them about what their interests are and help them to choose the subjects they’d like to try out during their time on campus.

Be creative and constructiveDid you know that being creative can be a potential career? If your interests involve drawing, writing, performing, playing an instrument, building or working with your hands, then you should Be creative and constructive.

Get scientificWould you enjoy making ice cream using liquid nitrogen? Get scientific and learn how. Join us in exploring the pure sciences of biology or physics.
