Pete & Judy Zeban took full advantage of their time share
in Orange Lake Resort in Orlando to celebrate Pete’s "39th"
birthday. Fun was had with a surprise visit from Pete’s
oldest son (Steve) from North Carolina to celebrate this
special occasion (left). Also a visit from Fred & Coleen
Laskey (right), also of LaPaloma, who spent several days
with Pete & Judy. The Kobe Steak House was on the
agenda one night and the meal was outstanding.
A day to remember by family and friends and a surprise birthday party to top it off. ~ Pete Zeban

We Introduce Doctor Kyler Shane!
Sunday, June 7th, was a very happy day for the Shane
Family (Ventana) ….. and a long time coming!
After 20+ years of his vision of one day becoming a Doctor
of Pharmacy, Kyler Shane realized his dream!
At the Commencement Ceremony on June 7th, Kyler re-
ceived his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Lake Erie
College of Osteopathic Medicine, School of Pharmacy. So
it’s official, we have another doctor in the neighborhood!
And, from all indications, the dedication and perseverance
it took to achieve this long-awaited goal will persist as
Doctor Shane continues his career at the Walmart Phar-
macy in Wimauma, where he previously worked as a Phar-
macy Tech and intern for the last 7 years.
Since the tender age of 7, Kyler wanted to be a doctor. He was fully committed and determined to achieve the goals he
set for himself 22 years ago which are now a reality. Kyler's desire as a small boy to help people improve their quality
of life remains the same today.
He now looks forward to many years of applying his knowledge, experience and skills to assure the best possible out-
come for his patients.
Says, Mom, Darcie, “Our family is blessed to have Kyler as a son, grandson and brother, everyday we thank God for
him! It is with great pride and love that we congratulate him on his accomplishments.”
Kyler is the son of Randy and Darcie Shane of Ventana Village. He has two brothers, Kristoffer and Jordan. The Shane
family have been residents of Ventana Village for 21 years.
CONGRATULATIONS, DR. KYLER SHANE!

Residents of Villa d’Este (noted below), along with many others, gathered and tee’d up in support of The United States
Army Warrant Officer Association (USAWOA) at Cypress Creek Golf Club on June 12th. Miller Florida Homes spon-
sored a closest-to-the-pin contest on hole #3 in this fundraiser, conducted by the USAWOA, as part of their Tampa Bay
Chapter’s many fundraising activities held throughout the year.
The USAWOA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support local charities and provide support and
assistance to active and retired military personnel and veterans. They also coordinate, volunteer and participate in
local humanitarian projects. One of their most recent events was presenting achievement awards to Junior Reserve Offi-
cers Training Corps (ROTC) students in Tampa and Plant City high schools. These awards recognize outstanding stu-
dents in the ROTC programs in their respective schools.
In preparation of the Sarasota National Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony, the Chapter
assisted in the purchase of flags for placement at the gravesites of Veterans. Ron
Peterman and Tom Beatty (residents of Villa d'Este) placed the flags at the gravesites
prior to the Ceremony. (Ron pictured left)
With the assistance of Miller Florida Homes, the Golf Tournament raised over $5,000 that
will enable the Tampa Bay Chapter of the U.S. Army Warrant Officers Association to
greatly increase its participation in future events that support the Veterans of the greater
Tampa Bay area.
The closest-to-the-pin contest was won by Ron Peterman.
The overall winners of the Golf Tournament were Mike
Solito (Villa d'Este) and Don Dotson (future LaPaloma
resident) and another hole sponsor, Nick Lanese (Lanese
+ Associates).

Start now to prepare your hurricane survival kit for you, your family and your pets, with food,
water, medicine and batteries. Be sure to secure important documents in waterproof bags or
containers. Experts say your hurricane survival kit should include supplies to last at least 72
hours. We have provided information on the following page to help you gather these supplies.
Pre-register special needs of elderly residents who need assistance for a Special Needs Shelter.
Early registration allows emergency officials to quickly identify and check on those that need
medical attention. Special Needs applications are available by calling Hillsborough County's
Infoline at 272.5900 or the Hillsborough County Health Department 307.8063.
Be prepared in the event an evacuation order is issued.
The designated shelters in our area are:
Beth Shields Middle School, 15732 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin, (this location is wheelchair-accessible with ADA-
accessible restrooms) and is a County-staffed, pet friendly shelter ~ bring cage, food, water, medications and proof of
vaccinations; and,
Earl J. Lennard High School, 2342 Shell Point Road East in Ruskin (this location is wheelchair-accessible with
ADA-accessible restrooms).
Note that in the event of an evacuation, appropriate identification will be required upon return to your neighborhood,
such as your drivers license.
Make sure you keep up with weather developments and official instructions as storms form so you have plenty of time
to secure your home, boat, pets and family.
Here are some reminders on ways to keep you, your family, pets and belongings safe:
2015 Hurricane Season is here
Please see suggested Hurricane Survival Kit List on next page
The 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially ended last year on November 30th, having produced a total of 3 named
storms, 6 of which were hurricanes.
The 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially began on June 1st and ends on November 30th.
On May 27th, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued their 2015 Atlantic Hurri-
cane Season outlook. NOAA is predicting a slower-than-normal hurricane season this season, with 6 to 12 named
storms, including 3 to 6 hurricanes.
This prediction is based on the emergence of El Nino, the large-scale weather pattern that suppresses storm formation by
creating strong wind shear in the upper atmosphere. Says NOAA Administrator, Kathryn Sullivan, “That doesn’t
mean Mother Nature isn't going to throw some pitches at us.”
Florida has gone a record 9 seasons without a hurricane strike, the last one was Wilma in 2005. On average, the region
is hit about once every 6 to 7 years.

Building a hurricane survival kit is a lot like packing for a wilderness camping trip. Worst case scenario, you may need
to be able to survive for several days on your own without any outside assistance.
Store your supplies and gear in a large plastic tote, something that is durable and easily transportable. A cooler with
wheels is another good option. Once you unpack your supplies, you have a place to store fresh food if you are lucky
enough to find some ice.
You can live for weeks without food, but only a few days without water, so store at least a gallon a day per person. In
an emergency, it could take several days to get help, so plan accordingly. Water purification tablets and/or a water filter,
will help extend your supply. Electrolyte solution and/or powdered sports drink take up little space and can be a life
saver in hot, humid conditions.
Pack freeze-dried or canned food, enough for three days. Dense, high-calorie items are the best choice. A camp stove
with extra propane will extend your menu options. Don’t forget a manual can opener. A mess kit, plastic eating utensils
and a lightweight camp cook set are great if you have them.
Communication is key in any emergency situation, so pack a battery-powered or hand-crank radio. If possible, get one
with a NOAA Weather Radio option. Make sure you have extra batteries. Get a waterproof case for your cell phone
and a solar charger.
Standard camping equipment, including a flashlight and/or lantern, a signal whistle and mirror, a first aid kit and water-
proof matches are also critical. If you need prescription medicine, have a least an extra month’s supply. You’ll also
need insect repellent and sunscreen.
Common household items, such as moist wipes and hand sanitizer, will help with personal hygiene. Paper towels and
toilet paper will also prove useful. Other items, including plastic garbage bags, drop cloths, mosquito netting, duct tape
and light line and rope can be used to make an emergency shelter if the need arises.
Make sure you place changes of clothes in a sealed, plastic bag. Include rain gear, and something warm, such as a
hooded sweatshirt, in case you find yourself in an air-conditioned shelter. An inflatable mattress, lightweight blankets
and/or a sleeping bag and a pillow will make your stay more comfortable. Bring along a small day pack in case you find
yourself walking for supplies.
