The School of Innovation continues to amaze! Our Girl Scout Humane Society do-
nations filled 6 large tote boxes and the Holiday Stocking donations filled 225
stockings with items left over! UNBELIEVABLE! The students are proud of the
service projects we have accomplished but are keeping all it all in perspective. Our
motto is ‘Help those who need help, because we can and want to!’ Our students and
families continue to rise to the top! Thank you for all of your support.
As the 2nd quarter comes to an end the weather is starting to remind us it is Decem-
ber. Students go outside for recess if the air temperature and wind chill are both
above 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Please make sure your child has the right outerwear
for the elements. Please see the next page of the newsletter for lost and found infor-
mation.
Have a great weekend!

cool! We are getting ready!
Math Update: We have been learning strat-

cluding in your timeline? “
“Which strategy do you like to use when
multiplying?” (array, equal groups, re-
peated addition)
“What is one poem that your ELA group
read in class this week? “
“Who was the narrator in the poem? “

Fourth graders started the week with a visit
from Progressive Insurance employees who
led them in a game of “Progressive Park-
way”. Students learned about insurance,
risk, urban and rural areas, and did tons of
math. We’ve also been busy with multiply-
ing, and multiplying, and more multiply-
ing! Two projects from the Reading Choice
Board are due on Friday, December 18th, the
last day of the quarter.
Speaking of the end of the quarter, our 2nd
Quarter Capstone Exhibition is going to be a
Health Fair in which the students share the indi-
vidual projects they are currently working on.
The whole SOI community will have the oppor-
tunity to visit our Health Fair and experience the
4th graders’ Capstone along with them. More to
come!!
Some conversation prompts for you to ask
your child:
“Show me your biography movie in POW Toons.” “Is there more of a need for auto insur-ance in urban or rural areas? Why?”
“What is your Capstone Project going to be?” Ask to sign the permission slip!

Students finally turned in their Moon calendars this
week. We began discussing the phases of the
moon. The students made a model of the moon,
Earth, and sun. This allows them the opportunity to
show the position of sun, Earth, and moon for each
of the phases of the moon . The students received a
study guide today and will be tested Friday, Decem-
ber 11th over the entire chapter of Earth and Space
Science. In Social Studies the students have been
gathering information in order to create a multi-tier
timeline. They will finish these next week. In
ELA, the students finished up their final touches
for the Biography Tea on Tuesday. Biography
Tea will be held from 1:00-2:30. Lastly, the
fifth grade students continue to work hard on
finishing up their Capstone projects. These pro-
jects will be due on Tuesday, December
15th. All students will present their Google
Slides on that day!

Professional Speaker Series

The School of Innovation welcomed Kristen Werden on Wednesday morning as
part of our Professional Speaker Series. Mrs. Werden is a professional photogra-
pher. She discussed the types of photos she takes, how she developed her passion
for taking pictures (Her inspiration was her son Calvin), and the fun she has in
her profession! One lesson learned, don't OVER-edit your shots! Thank you for
visiting us Mrs. Werden! We enjoyed your presentation!
