E-Learning and blended learning have spread across the globe, helping break barriers to educational access. These

schools are good examples:

Even students who have not been

successful in traditional classroom settings are designing their own international

learning community that flexes to their needs and interests. Notschool is a web-based, innovative model for education,

where learners are researchers and teachers are mentors.

Electronic collaboration and interaction is a vital learning principle. Our exchanges with others deepen learning beyond what

we can achieve on our own.

Two examples of online collaboration in action coming up…

Most of the “solvers” are people who are

completely outside the field of the challenge

Games, simulations and virtual worlds offer more authentic online classroom scenarios, than simple text does. This has lead to both excitement and skepticism for those in the

education field.Secondlife is now used at colleges

M-learning has emerged with the increasing use of mobile devices. Now educational activities are following the learner, instead of the learner having to

arrive at a certain place to obtain it. Schools are starting to embrace this technology and integrate it into the

curriculum, rather than banning it from the classroom.

Technology and online social networks have empowered learners to participate in

personalizing their learning experience. Sharing ideas via Facebook, blogs,

podcasts, and YouTube, Flickr and more have become central to our lives.

Bonk’s enthusiasm for the internet as the ultimate tool for global education is invigorating and he provides many good examples of information sharing that did not happen prior to the wide spread use of the Web.

Bonk does not spend much time analyzing how the availability of information will lead to genuine learning – which is the question that most concerns me about eLearning. Access does not guarantee understanding.

In addition to K-PhD educators and students, trainers at small businesses

with minimal budgets would benefit because of the numbers of free or low-cost options offered in this book. Buy it

If the world is truly open, then this book should be shared in an open source format with

learners and educators around the planet. If so, then the resources offered could be

transforming the learning landscape to a place where

WE ALL LEARN.
