“A light for revelation to the Gentiles”
Welcome Guests and Visitors - Please sign a blue Connection Card
Call to Worship
God comes as a light to all, grace-filled, yet baby-frail.
Now may our hearts cradle you, our voices sing to you,
our spirits leap with you, and our hearts dance with you.
Lighting of the Advent Candles
GIVE PRAISE AND THANKS TO GOD_________________
*Hymn of Praise #189 “Angels, from the Realms of Glory” Deacons will collect prayer requests
*Prayer of Confession
O God, we live as if the light had never defeated the
darkness in the world or in us. We confess that we ignore the
Christ you sent to be among us, to be in us. We’ve kept the
birth of your Son confined to the Christmas season and do not
yearn for his birth each moment in our waiting hearts. Lord,
you came to us in the fullness of time. Forgive us for not
opening our eyes to your coming. It’s time that we prepare for
your coming. Let the light break forth. Let us all rejoice in the
miracle of love. Let Christ come into the fullness of our time.
Amen.
*Assurance of God’s Forgiveness
*Congregational Response Hymn #229 Then let us all with one accord sing praises to our heavenly
Lord, who hath made heaven and earth of naught, and with his blood
our life hath bought. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the King of Israel.
Time with the Children
Anthem
Joys and Concerns
Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer …Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

The Scripture that we are reading today is often kept for the post-Christmas time
known as Epiphany. But it is a theme that characterized God’s advent from the start.
God sent Jesus to be “for the glory of your people Israel” (mentioned in Simeon’s
second line). But this glory was that he was the Light of God to shine “as a light for
revelation to the Gentiles,” a theme that Luke displays in his gospel and then in the
book of Acts as the plan of God unfolds. Through Simeon’s song we are led to
celebrate God’s love for the world and to let God’s Light shine through us. Christmas
joy to you and yours! -Pastor Karl
