Getting hereBy Train or BusBradford is served by two stations – Bradford Interchange (bus, coach and rail) and Bradford Foster Square, both of which are located in the city centre.
WalkingFrom central Bradford, cross Centenary Square (the pedestrianised area with the BBC big screen and City Hall) and head in the direction of the old Odeon cinema. Once you are there walk up the hill (Great Horton Road), passing the Alhambra Theatre on your left. Keep walking and you’ll see Bradford College and then the University. Stay on this road until you reach Unique Fitness and Lifestyle (the new sports centre). You can then cut across the car parks behind the sports centre and walk down the grassy hill to Theatre in the Mill (which is next to the Phoenix Building). Alternatively keep walking along Great Horton Road until it meets Shearbridge Road and turn right onto Shearbridge Road, then, once you are opposite Bombay Stores, turn right again off the road. Go down the lane to the Theatre.
By CarFrom Leeds, Wakefield and the motorways follow the signs for the University and Bradford College from Bradford city centre. From Halifax take the A647 through Queensbury and arrive at the Shearbridge Pub roundabout via Great Horton Road. From Keighley or Skipton take the A650 into Bradford via Manningham Lane and follow the University signs from the city centre.

Nativity is a full-body collision with the enduring power of the myth and magic of the Virgin Mary. Dance artist Rachel Dean uses movement, song and things that sparkle to create an irreverent and at times surprisingly devotional solo performance.
St Nicholas and the Wicked Butcher is the tale of a quest to save three tiny children from a villainous Parisian butcher. Alongside a Christmas ghost story, Matthew Bellwood’s telling of this grisly and bizarre tale promises to be as engaging as his audiences at Opera North and the Edinburgh Festival have come to expect.

Disabled Parking and AccessTheatre in the Mill is wheelchair-accessible with a lift to the main auditorium on the first floor. We have space for two wheelchairs, a disabled toilet and an induction loop in the main theatre space. The lower floor (ticket, info and bar area) is at street level and has wide doorways. If you have specific access needs and/or need to use the wheelchair spaces in the Theatre space please contact us.
We have two disabled parking spaces nearby, one immediately opposite and on a level with the Theatre, the other nearer the entrance to the lane: from here the Theatre is approximately 150m downhill. For both of these parking places please take the entrance to the lane, which is marked with a Theatre in the Mill sign, from Shearbridge Road opposite Bombay Stores.
Echo Chambercreated and performed by Duende (John Britton)
This season we welcome John Britton who will be showing the new piece Echo Chamber with a view to its future development. Intimate and confessional, brazen and blustering, funny, bewildered, frightened, and curiously full of hope, Duende brings us a human at the outer edge of his humanity. John Britton has been making extraordinary and unique physical performances since 1989. He is a director, improvisor, writer and teaches ensemble physical theatre and improvisation extensively all round the world.

The stories appear alongside other new works, which include: a poem about a non-talking parrot and some animal impersonations with the aid of a handkerchief. The audience are invited to sing along. Moving and original word and music play curated by Joe Kriss Word Life is a poetry and music collective formed in 2006 by Joe Kriss. From humble beginnings running open mic nights at Sheffield University, Joe has since developed into an editor, workshop leader and event organiser with a steadily growing national reputation.
Word Life run regular poetry and music evenings in both Sheffield and here at the University of Bradford.

Jon Gomm will also be hosting a free guitar masterclass at the Tamsin Little Music Centre on Thursday 22nd September at 3pm. As well as demonstrating cutting edge new ways of playing the guitar, there will be an open question and answer session, and Jon will be willing to share his expertise and secrets.

The classical Greek myth of the nymph Echo and her fatal love for the beautiful Narcissus is trans-formed into an enchanting new chamber opera. The lovely and lonely Echo falls for Narcissus who has eyes only for his own reflection. Their tragic love story is overseen by a chorus of wise and witty nymphs. With music that draws on the baroque sound of Purcell and Monteverdi, this opera of love and longing is as classical as it is contemporary and a must for all music lovers.
Composer Anja Djordjevic was composer-in- residence at the International Composer’s Centre in Sweden and the winner of the prestigious Stevan Mokranjac prize for Narcissus and Echo.Sung in English.

What Are They Whispering? is a poetry show to nudge you or urge you to weigh up the balance of power in your own life. The dynamic trio of poets whose work will charge you up is Imtiaz Dharker, Joe Dunthorne and John Stammers. They perform their poems about power in both its rawest and most subtle states. Poems and ideas are enhanced and amplified with lighting and sound; witness every spoken word special effect from a whisper to a chorus, every lighting state from a firefly glimmer to a thunderbolt.

The Institute for Crazy Dancing creates compelling performance work for site-responsive journeys, events, happenings, traditional theatre spaces and unexpected places.
Our Ship O’FoOls will be an astonishing and beautiful sight: a rotating skeleton ship. It is a 21m long keel, with 21 rib sections, supporting 21 hammocks – a structure as big as a bendy bus. Our aim is to create a spectacular, intimate and contemplative experience: it is about being differently oriented in the world, being rocked gently and turned around. It is about how we value ourselves and each other on a voyage to a fairer future.
These two nights at the Mill will see us working with the hammocks and musicality for the piece. Please expect to participate in some way, and if you have a hammock we might be able to borrow, please email: [email protected]
