Widely regarded as one of Britain’sforemost landscape artists,Norman Ackroyd CBE RA, waselected as a Royal Academician in1991. Ackroyd’s skill is to evoke theatmosphere of place, the water andthe weather through his chosenmedium – aquatint.

Our exhibition comprises Ackroyd’smost recent etching portfolio,Fragments and favourite etchingsfrom the North Norfolk coast.

Art Art

Renowned for her Op-Art paintings, BridgetRiley uses colour, line and shape, as well asremarkable precision to produce visuallyhypnotic effects that capture a sense ofmovement and dimension. Our exhibition willfeature the black and white screenprints from theearly ‘60s that helped make Riley’s internationalreputation, as well as later coloured pieces.

Bridget Riley’s work is in museums worldwideand the National Gallery is currently showing hermonumental wall painting ‘Messengers’.

David Case will discuss Riley’s career, focussingon her early monochrome work.

Duleep Singh, the last Maharajah ofthe Sikh Empire and the Punjab wasplaced on the throne at the age offive but when India was annexed toBritain, he was sent to England andnever allowed to return. In Englandhe was befriended by QueenVictoria but ultimately the youngprince struggled to reconcile himselfwith the two cultures of his Indianbirth and British education andattempted to regain his throne.

The story of Duleep Singh is ofparticular local interest however, helived with his family at Elveden Hall,near Thetford and his second son,Prince Frederick was the founder ofthe Ancient House Museum andlived at Blo Norton Hall taking akeen interest in local history.
