St. Cecilia Icon

Members of the St. Peter Music Ministry com-missioned an icon of St. Cecilia, patron saint of musicians, in memory of long time music minis-try member Rhonda Baumgartner. The icon was written on a wooden panel by an iconographer. On Sunday, January 13th at the 9:30 Mass, the Baumgartner family presented the image to the parish and it was blessed by Father Otis. The icon will be hung on the stairwell wall to the choir loft where it can be seen by the choir. The word “icon” means “image”. An icon is a sacred image of Christ, angels or saints depicted in a highly stylized way. An icon is like a snap-shot or a window into heaven. Both the process of writing, and the image itself is full of meaning and rich in symbolism. The symbolism of an icon is like a visual scripture for the viewer, revealing truths of the faith through the symbols within the image. In this icon, Saint Cecilia is holding an organ, a symbol of the music she sang in her heart to God.

World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life

World Day for Consecrated Life will be celebrated in the Universal Church on Saturday, Feb-ruary 2, 2019 and in parishes on the weekend of February 2-3, 2019. Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, and be sure to thank them on their special day. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God's gift of their vocation.

Prayer for Consecrated Persons

God our Father, we thank you for calling men and women to serve in your Son’s Kingdom as sisters, brothers, religious priests, consecrated virgins, and hermits, as well as members of Secular Institutes. Renew their knowledge and love of you, and send your Holy Spirit to help them respond generously and courageously to your will. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. [USCCB, Secretariat of Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations]

The Vocation Committee of St. Peter Parish invites all women of the parish to commit to offer the graces of their Eucharist on every first Sunday of each month. All women are invited to embrace a life of spiritual motherhood by praying for an increase in religious vocations and by making a commitment to intercede both prayerfully and through mortifications for the holiness of existing vocations. Next Sunday, February 3rd, is the first Sunday of the month. May all women of the parish prayerfully consider this offering of graces.

The First Friday and First Saturday Devotions to The Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary

The First Friday of each month was designated by our Savior Himself as a day to be consecrated to honoring His

Sacred Heart. Attendance at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is assuredly the best means of honoring and loving the adorable Heart of Jesus.

First Saturday Devotion … All are invited to join the Northshore Manresa Men’s Group on February 2nd, for First Saturday Devotion with Confessions beginning 7:45 a.m., Rosary at 8:00 a.m. and Mass at 8:30 a.m. Our Blessed Mother asked at Fatima for the First Saturday Devotion, saying it is a way of atoning for sins in the world, and promising that she would help at the hour of death anyone who keeps the devotion for five consecutive First Saturdays.

Feast of the Presentation of the Lord – Saturday, February 2nd

Saturday, February 2nd, we will celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (also known as Candlemas Day). Candles are blessed on this day in remembrance of Simeon’s prophecy about Jesus as a light to the Gentiles. We will begin the 8:30 a.m. Mass with a sol-emn procession from the sacristy to the table located at the entrance of the nave where the traditional blessing of the candles will take place. This solemn procession represents the en-try of Christ, who is the light of the World, into the Temple of Jerusalem. Everyone is invited to bring candles to the 8:30 a.m. Mass on February 2nd for this spe-cial blessing for use in their homes.

Feast of St. Blaisé

Please Note: Because the Feast of St. Blaisé is on a Sunday this year, a communal blessing of throats will take place Next Weekend as the final blessing.

The St. Peter Parish Homebound Prayer Warrior Ministry

The Homebound Prayer Warriors are committed to praying a daily Hail Mary for specific monthly parish intentions. This ministry strives to remind others by example of the Scripture verse in 1 John 5:14: “And we have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”

The following is the prayer intention for the month of February

For all of our sick and homebound.

Thanks to all our homebound for the gift of their prayer for our parish community.

Please continue to keep all those who are

homebound in your prayers.
