“The right to life implies and is linked to other human rights — to the basic goods that every human person needs to live and thrive. All the life issues are connected, for erosion of respect for the life of any individual or group in society necessari-ly diminishes respect for all life. The moral imperative to respond to the needs of our neighbors — basic needs such as food, shelter, health care, education, and meaningful work — is universally binding on our consciences and may be legitimately fulfilled by a vari-ety of means. Catholics must seek the best ways to re-spond to these needs….Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights — for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to fami-ly, to culture — is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condi-tion for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination.’’
—From Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizen-ship, Nos. 25, 26, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2015.
Concern America Fair Trade Craft Fair After Masses the weekend of November 12 & 13
On Saturday and Sunday, November 12 & 13, volunteers for Concern America will be here at St. Edward the Con-fessor Church with a Craft Sale featuring unique, quality handcrafts that provide us with the opportunity to pur-chase conscientiously. The gifts we find for special events, holidays, or to brighten our own homes are an ex-change of caring with impoverished communities in developing countries. This year we have many new crafts from Bangladesh, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico. Inspired by nature, these beautifully handcrafted textiles, ceramics and wood products, honor indigenous traditions, and were selected to be reminders that when a Concern Ameri-ca product is purchased we are providing a source of income to materially poor communities; promoting human scale endeavors; eco-friendly work patterns; and fair working conditions.
Concern America, is an international development organization based in Santa Ana, CA. (714) 953-8575. You may view a selection of their crafts on their web site: www.concernamerica.org

Needed: Ministers to Take Communion to the Sick and Homebound
We need registered parishioners who are willing to take Holy Communion to parishioners who are una-ble to attend Mass due to age or illness. In bringing Holy Communion to the sick or aged, you minister to the whole person - body, mind and soul. The time commitment is approximately two hours per week, either during the week or on the weekend. Extraordinary Ministers to the Sick/Homebound are required by the Diocese of Orange to be fingerprint-ed and complete safe environment training. Applica-tions are available in the Parish office or online at (stedward.com) under Ministries/Extraordinary Minis-ters of Holy Communion to the Sick & Homebound.

The Corazon Builders from St. Edward and the Corazon organization would like to thank St. Edward parishioners for their support, both financial and labor, for this build-a-house-in-a-day project. This was our third house-build with Corazon and what a build it was! This site was on a hill which made it much more challenging than our last one.
Forty-six people provided the labor for this build: 22 of them were families of 3 to 5, with parents and teenagers! On Saturday, Sept. 24 we left on a bus from St. Edward at 5:00 a.m. and at 5:00 p.m. we handed off the keys to the fami-ly’s new free & clear home! The family who received the keys for this house had waited 17 years and was working with Corazon in Mexico. The location of their new home was not just any address; it was next door to their daughter. Corazon and St. Edward Parish made this family’s dream come true! If you would like to join us on our next build on Saturday, June 3, 2017, or if you have questions, please contact: Ralph Loconte: [email protected] (949) 351-4266 or Rob Wagner [email protected] (949) 842-2277. For additional information about Corazón, visit their website: www.corazon.org
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Thanks You for Your Generosity
Thank you your support and donations of usable house-hold items for our “Bundle Sunday” on October 16. Your contributions will go a long way to help the needy and under served in our community. We, the volunteers, of the Saint Vincent de Paul confer-ence at St. Edward thank the donors and the volunteers whose participation made this a successful event. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the church meeting room. Visitors are welcome. Join us to learn how you can help people in need in our area.

Dear Brothers in the Lord,
On Saturday, December 3 the "Dynamic Catholic Insti-tute" will be holding a very important event entitled "Living Every Day with Passion and Purpose" at the UCI Bren Center-100 Mesa Rd. Irvine, CA. 92697. As Matthew Kelly mentions "Our mission at Dynamic Cath-olic is to re-energize the Catholic Church in America. We are doing it a community at a time. This even will attract people from across the Diocese and beyond."
I have met Matthew Kelly a number of times over the years and he maintains an office in the Tower of Hope on the Christ Cathedral Campus. He has been a speaker in a number of our parishes here in the Diocese. His zeal, sense of mission and love for our Faith can be a great opportunity for us as we seek now to reenergize our evangelization efforts across the Diocese later this year.
I plan to attend this event myself and certainly would encourage our parish priests, leaders and religious to take advantage of this event as the season of Advent begins.
Know of my prayer for a blessed and relaxing summer.
Gratefully yours in the Lord, Most Reverend Kevin W. Vann, J.C.D., D.D. Bishop of Orange
