ABSTRACT

Tutuarima, Zulfa. 2018. An Analysis of Speech Act Used in “London Has

Fallen” Movie. Skripsi. English Education Department, Teacher

Training and Education Faculty, Muria Kudus University.

Key Words : Pragmatics, Speech Act, The Classification of Illocutionary Act.

Language is one of important things for human life. It is used to

communicate with other in their daily life. Without language they cannot

express their feeling and idea. There are two ways to convey the message,

either spoken or written. In pragmatic study, the utterances can be included as

speech act. Speech Act is the study of intended meaning the utterances spoken

or written. The most significant thing in speech act is the message that speaker

wants to convey. It means when using language is not only produces a sentence

but also perform an action. There are three kinds of speech act they are

locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act. Speech act can be

found in movie script, speech, research document, and article journal and so

on. For movie script it is the one which is contains so many utterances because

it is not only creates a dialog but also creates some actions. While there are five

classifications of illocutionary act they are assertive, directive, commisive,

expressive and declarative which is every category have different meaning.

The aims of the research are (i) to find out the kinds of speech act

used in London Has Fallen Movie (ii) to find out the way of speech act and the

classifications of illocutionary act used in London Has Fallen Movie.

This research uses descriptive qualitative research. This research

figures out the kinds of speech act and the classifications of illocutionary act

used in London Has Fallen Movie. The data is all of the utterances contains

speech act and the data source is taken from the script of London Has Fallen

Movie script in page 25 and it is written by Creighton Rothernberger and

Katrin Benedikt.

The result of the research shows that: (i) there are 76 utterances of

speech act used in London Has Fallen Movie which the most dominant is

illocutinary act consist of 37 utterances. (ii) there are 99 utterances of the

classifications of illocutionary act and the most dominant categories is directive

with 32 utterances.

Finally, I suggest that speech act is the one of important materials in

learning language. The students of English Education Department can discuss

or analyze of speech act. And for further writer, they should pay attention to

the theory of speech act when they are studying. Then for the lecturer has to

give the study of pragmatic especially for speech act in order to make their

students are understand about the study in contextual meaning of utterances.

And the reader can analyze the meaning of utterance by pragmatic and speech

act, because both of them are study about the meaning.

ABSTRAK

Tutuarima, Zulfa. 2018. An Analysis of Speech Act Used in “London Has

Fallen” Movie. Skripsi. Program Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris,

terdapat lima klasifikasi tindakan ilokusi yaitu assertive, directive, commisive,

Has Fallen.

Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif deskripsi. Menjelaskan

London Has Fallen.

sumber data diambil dari naskah film London Has Fallen sebanyak 25 halaman
