STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Senior CongressLawmaker from Inderwal,Ghulam Mohammad Saroorisaid that the StateGovernment is lacking will torevive the ailing J&K StateRoad Transport Corporation(JKSRTC) despite the factthat Transport Corporationlosses have gone above awhopping Rs 70 crore in lastthree years.

Saroori while speaking onTransport department saidthat there is urgent need totake some revolutionary stepsto pull out SRTC from 'red'.No doubt, it has become awhite elephant for theGovernment but it can bemade self sufficient, if as perthe recommendations of S.LBhat Committee report, somemeasures are taken. He saidthat Bhat committee has sug-gested that SRTC shouldhave a healthy fleet of about1000 vehicles, idle workers ofthe SRTC should be accom-modated in other depart-ments and all the revenueleakage points be pluggedbesides going for computeri-

sation and electronic ticketingsystem.

He stressed on strictenforcement of traffic androad safety rules, saying thiswas imperative for minimiz-ing road accidents and savingprecious lives. Saying thatday out and day in road acci-dents consume precious lives,Saroori stressed that thetransport department andtraffic police authoritiesshould work in tandem toimplement the traffic rulesstrictly.

Saroori also questionedMinister of State forTransport, Sunil Sharma, forhis last year budget speechand said nothing has beenimplemented on ground whatthe concerned Minister saidincluding introducing a newfleet of AC buses underPrivate-Public Partnershipmode. Quoting TransportMinister's assurance that theCorporation which has runinto losses for decades will seeno losses during the financialyear 2016-17, Saroori saidthat contrary to minister'saverment the corporation

faced a loss of Rs 25 crore. Hequestioned, "Where are newbuses and trucks which weresupposed to procure byJKSRTC? Where are theassurance of Minister gone inplying of SRTC buses to farflung areas includingBaramulla to Srinagar,Anantnag to Srinagar,Kupwara to Srinagar, Jammuto Srinagar, Poonch toSrinagar, Doda to Jammu,Poonch to Doda, inner linkroads of Kishtwar besidesother vital roads between var-ious districts of the state,what about the start of watertransport service in KashmirValley?"

While speaking duringAgriculture and Horticulturedepartments grants, Sarooricastigated the government forfailing to give due 'impetus' tothe agriculture and its alliedsectors in Chenab Valleywherein he termed agriculturesector to be the backbone ofstate's economy.

He exhorted the need forchalking out a comprehensiveplan in order to increase theproductivity by three fold

whether its horticulture, agri-culture, apiculture or sericul-ture.

Saroori sought focusedattention of Governmenttowards the Chenab valleywhich has been neglected. Hedemanded organizing ofawareness camps about vari-ous Government schemes atblock level so that the farmerscould avail the benefit of suchschemes. He said that 90 per-cent area in his constituencyis rain fed and it needs to becovered under lift irrigationschemes for which more fundsare needed to be allocated.

He (Saroori) further addedthat Finance Minister in hislast year speech mentionedabout waiving off of 50 percent KCC loans which findsmention at Serial No.48,added that an amount of Rs.150 Crore promised byFinance Minister is yet to becredited into the accounts ofKCC loan holders. Hedemanded waiver of KCCloans at an earliest, addingmushroom cultivation shouldbe promoted in Kishtwar dis-trict.

SRINAGAR: Two persons died in two separate road accidents inSrinagar and Baramulla. In Srinagar, a Tata mobile bearing regis-tration number JK05E-6683 hit and injured a girl identified asMehak, daughter of Abul Hameed Khuroo, resident of New ColonyPalpora at Umarabad, Goripora. The injured girl was shifted toSMHS Hospital for treatment where she succumbed to her injuries.After completion of legal formalities, the body of the deceased washanded over to her legal heirs for last rites. In Baramulla, a Maruticar hit and injured a lady identified as Zubaida Begum, wife ofAbdul Rehman Wani, resident of Harinara Mirgund at Singhpora,Pattan. The injured lady was shifted to JVC Hospital for treatmentwhere she succumbed to her injuries. After completion of legal for-malities, the body of the deceased was handed over to her relativesfor last rites. Police have registered the cases in this regard.
