Give Respect Get Respect 2016-2017

1. Message must be powerful, positive, concise, and clearly communicated.

2. Entries that contain the following will not be considered:

• Dramatizations of fighting, harassment, violence or other harmful behaviour; and

• Swearing, homophobic, racist, sexist or otherwise inappropriate language or content.

3. No school or students names to appear in submission (must be generic to Halton Region).

4. Digital entries must be submitted on USB Memory Stick.

5. Only ONE entry per school may be submitted.

6. Submission form must accompany all entries.

General Rules for All Categories:

Help us spread the message of respect and positive relationships.

Halton students in grades 6 to 12 may submit entries to be showcased across Halton Region in three winning categories:

1. Posters

2. Videos

3. Original music composition

Entries must communicate positive real-life strategies promoting messages about:

• Equity and diversity

• Personal well-being and self-esteem

• Healthy relationships and bullying prevention

• Building positive spaces and belonging at a school and in the community

Posters

• Must be in landscape format

• High-resolution electronic version must be submitted (i.e. 300 dpi)

Videos and Original Songs

• Must be 90 seconds or less

• Song entries must have original music and original lyrics

• Videos must be in AVI or WMV format

• Audio only entries must be in MP3

• Original songs must include a written copy of the lyrics accompanying the entry

• Only royalty-free music may be used in submissions to avoid copyright issues

Additional Rules

All entries must be submitted to Jonathan Shoss, System Principal for Safe & Inclusive Schools at J.W.Singleton Centre for Education by Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 4:00pm to be considered for judging. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Elementary and secondary entries will be judged separately.

Royalty Free Music

Music files used in your submission must either be your own original composition or be downloaded from the royalty free website provided below. NO EXCEPTIONS. All others will be disqualified.

The Halton Regional Police Service has entered into an agreement with videoblocks.com to provide quality music for this movement. To avoid copyright infringements related to adding popular music to your video/audio submissions we request that you visit http://www.videoblocks.com where you can seek out music to enhance your entry. Keep a record of the music file(s) you are using as you will be required to identify them on your submission form. Entries must not include music downloaded from the Internet, even if the files have been paid for (e.g. iTunes – their files are for personal use only).

How do I download files from videoblocks.com?

Each school board will be issued a user name and code to access the files at www.videoblocks.com and www.audioblocks.com. his site access can only be used for the creation of entries by those participating in the Give Respect Get Respect movement in Halton and not for personal use.

Misuse of the site as it is intended by this movement may result in access being terminated.
