Tidings of Comfort and Joy Christmas Concert April 6, 2017, 7:30pm Blaisdell Concert Hall The endless theatrical flair of the renowned master of operas Giuseppe Verdi comes to life in the final concert of the season. The OCS Symphonic Chorus and the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra join forces to present Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, a masterwork that features drama at every turn. Guiseppe Verdi: Messa da Requiem Spring Concert December 29 & 30, 2016, 7:30pm Blaisdell Concert Hall The OCS Symphonic Chorus joins the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra and JoAnn Fallea for this annual holiday tradition. The HSO will also perform Strauss’s Death & Transfiguration as part of this program. Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 New Year Concert November 11, 2016, 7:30pm St. Andrew’s Cathedral The season opens with a concert in honor of our veterans and all those who have lost their lives to war. We particularly remember victims and veterans of World War II as we prepare to mark the 75th anniversary this December of the aack on Pearl Harbor. Tickets are free to active-duty military personnel and veterans. In this concert, the OCS Symphonic Chorus and Chamber Choir, joined by guest artists Thomas Yee (piano) and John Renke (organ) present choral music from the 20th century inspired by timeless writings, including stirring works by Srul Irving Glick and Randall Thompson. The heart of this concert features the Hawai‘i premiere of Donald McCullough’s Holocaust Cantata for chorus, cello, and piano—a musical tribute and emotional journey through songs and prose wrien by prisoners in the camps. Writings Etched in My Soul Veterans Day Concert “As early as the fall of 1940 we established a quartet that sang, well-known and popular songs.... Personally, I do not hesitate to say that I owe my life to those moments.
