When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy

From God our Heavenly Father
A blessed Angel came;
And unto certain Shepherds
Brought tidings of the same:
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by Name.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
The shepherds at those tidings
Rejoiced much in mind,
And left their flocks a-feeding
In tempest, storm and wind:
And went to Bethlehem straightway
The Son of God to find.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed
be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive
every one that is indebted to us. And lead us
not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
Luke 11: 2-4
Luke 3:1-18
The voice of one
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius
Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea,
and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his
brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the
region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch
of Abilene,
2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the
word of God came unto John the son of
Zacharias in the wilderness.
3 And he came into all the country about Jordan,
preaching the baptism of repentance for the
remission of sins;
4 As it is written in the book of the words of
Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one
crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of
the Lord, make his paths straight.
Luke 1:76-80 76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the
Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to
prepare his ways; 77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the
remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the
dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the
shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of
peace. 80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and
was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto
Israel.
5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain
and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked
shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall
be made smooth;
6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
Isaiah 40:1-8
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. 2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her,
that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is
pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD's hand
double for all her sins. 3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare
ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a
highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and
hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made
straight, and the rough places plain: 5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all
flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD
hath spoken it. 6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All
flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the
flower of the field: 7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the
spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is
grass. 8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of
our God shall stand for ever.
The Warning
7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to
be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who
hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of
repentance, and begin not to say within
yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I
say unto you, That God is able of these stones to
raise up children unto Abraham.
9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the
trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not
forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the
fire.
10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall
we do then?
11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath
two coats, let him impart to him that hath none;
and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and
said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that
which is appointed you.
14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him,
saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto
them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any
falsely; and be content with your wages.
“Is this the Christ?”
15 And as the people were in expectation, and all
men mused in their hearts of John, whether he
were the Christ, or not;
16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed
baptize you with water; but one mightier than I
cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not
worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the
Holy Ghost and with fire:
17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly
purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his
garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire
unquenchable.
18 And many other things in his exhortation
preached he unto the people.

HYMN NO. 68 Come, O ev’ry one that thirsteth, To the living waters come; From the rock the fountains bursteth, Come and drink while yet there’s room. Lift your eyes to yonder mountain, See the stately Lebanon; See the heav’nly crystal fountain Flowing from Jehovah’s throne. Come, and purchase milk and honey, Come, and purchase heav’nly wine; Come, although you have no money, Join yourselves to Christ the Vine. He that drinks of this sweet river, And eats of the living tree, His terrestrial body never Will to death become a prey.
Away in a Manger
Away in manger, no crib for a bed
The little Lord Jesus lay down His sweet
head
The stars in the bright sky looked down
where He lay
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay
The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes
But little Lord Jesus no crying He makes
I love Thee Lord Jesus, look down from the
sky
And stay by my bedside till morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever and love me, I pray
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care
And take us to Heaven to live with Thee
there.
The First Noel
The first Noel, the angels did say,
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields
where they lay,
In fields where they lay, keeping their
sheep,
On a cold winter’s night, that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
They looked up above and there saw a star,
As it shone in the east, but beyond them afar,
And to the earth it gaveth great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
The star drew nigh unto the north-west,
Over Bethlehem paused and there it did rest,
And there upon high it did hover and stay,
Right over the place where Jesus lay.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
