Pastoral Letter Dearly beloved,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Praise God for the surprise blessings we had in February. Our Episcopal leaders honorable bishop Subodh C. Mondal and Bishop Amma Mrs.Sudipta Mondal visited our church on Feb-ruary 21, 2016 and preached. Then they inaugurated our whitefield outreach minis-try as the Whitefield Methodist Church. In a short notice it all happened and we could make use of our Bishop’s availability. All glory to God. During the same time we had the Tamil Family Camp in an overwhelming spirit and many people turned out. Thanks to the organizers, and speakers of the family camp. Let us thank the Lord and ask for his blessings in this lent season. I get shares in my Facebook page ‘You will get a Financial Blessing very soon. Just say Amen!’ How foolish Christians have become to create and share like this and

to my surprise many people replied Amen. Is receiving money or income that magi-cal? Is it that simple? Is it Biblical? Clear absurdity! Even devil gives financial blessings and offers huge riches to seekers. It includes other’s money, unaccounted money, unjust money with bonus of snares and sorrows. He wanted even Jesus the Son of God to bow down and get everything and more from him (obviously we have now More, Total, Big bazaar, hypercity etc). Jesus said, get behind me Satan for God alone


deserves worship, (not you and your money). Like Jesus, we are to say “Get behind my way,” whereas facebook request asks to say Amen for mammon, and we say Amen. Christians should have a different idea of money and wealth. They seek first the kingdom of God and receive all that are added to them. They work hard and eat the fruit of labour. Like Abraham, if God lifts them financially, they use it to share and channelize rather than creating status boasts. They live accountable and are ready to disown money if God asks to do. They live poor in their spirit (humble) and believe that man shall not live by bread alone but by every Word of God. The Bible teaches that the Spiritual enrichment is the first blessing Lord gives his children and the ability to stand for Christ. This is fading away from Chris-tians’ thought and life style today. We see in leaders also the danger of picking up what has to be thrown out in the world, at the cost of holiness. We have failed to set the Cross at our front Jesus took the detested Cross and placed it in the center of the world as his symbol and throne. It is the enigma to the worldly minds but the direction to obeying souls. Cross separates Kingdom God from the world, narrow way from broad way and heavenly rewards from earthly rewards. We are called to affirm the supremacy of Cross and make it the way of life i.e., denying our selfish interests and following

Christ. For the rewards of Cross is Crown. Jesus kept joy of the Crown before him and endured pain and shame. Our 40 day Lent season should help us to choose such a Cross Way from cross roads! The priorities differentiate people from anointed ones. Pray for the Mission Sunday that will be organized on the second Sunday and the following Holy Week observation too. I would like to announce a Debate on

the topic, “The Most Important job of the Church in today’s context is Evangelism or Discipleship.’ Participate in it. My best wishes and prayers for all our children who are

writing their exam in this month “…let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the au-thor and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

ப ோதகர் மடல் கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் பிரியமானவர்களே, நமது ஆண்டவரும் இரட்சகருமாகிய இளயசு கிறிஸ்துவின் நாமத்தில் வாழ்த்துக்கள். கடந்த பிப்ரவரி மாதம் ளதவன் அருேிய ஆச்சரியமான ஆசீர்வாதங்களுக்காக அவரர துதிக்கிளறன். நமது ளபராயத்தின் தரைவர்கோகிய மதிப்பிற்குரிய ளபராயர் சுளபாத் சி மண்டல் மற்றும் ளபராயரம்மா திருமதி சுதிப்தா மண்டல் ஆகிளயார், 21 ஆம் ளததி, நமது ஆையத்திற்கு வருரக தந்து ளதவ சசய்தி அேித்தனர். பின்னர், நமது ஒயிட்பீல்டு ஊழியத்ரத, முரறயாக, ஒயிட்பீல்டு சமத்தடிஸ்ட் ஆையமாக துவக்கினர். குறுகிய காைத்தில், ளபராயரின் வருரகரய முன்னிட்டு இரவ நடந்ளதறியன. அளத ளவரேயில், நமது வருடாந்திர தமிழ் முகாமும் பைரது


ஈடுபாட்டுடன் சிறப்பாக நடந்தது. இதில் ளதவ சசய்தியேித்தவர்களுக்கும், ஒருங்கிரைப்பாேர்களுக்கும் நன்றி. ளதவன் அருேிய இந்த ஆசீர்வாதங்களுக்காக அவருக்கு நன்றி சசலுத்துளவாம். எல்ைா கைமும் ளதவனுக்ளக! ளபஸ்புக் (Facebook) இரையதேத்தில் சிைர்’ இப்சபாழுது ஆசமன் என்று சசால்லுங்கள், விரரவில் ளதவன் உங்கரே அதிக சசல்வத்துடன் ஆசீர்வதிப்பார்’ என்று பகிர்ந்துசகாள்கின்றனர். இரத நம்பி அளநக கிறிஸ்தவர்களும் முட்டாள்தனமாக, ’ஆசமன்’ என்று பதிவு சசய்கின்றனர். சசல்வச் சசழிப்ரப சபறுவது இப்படி மாயாஜாைமாக முடியுமா? இத்தரன எேிதானதா? இது ளவதவாக்கியத்தின்படி சத்தியமா? இல்ரை, முற்றிலும் முட்டாள்தனமானது. சாத்தானும் பை ளவரேகேில் சசல்வச் சசழிப்ரப உண்டுபண்ைி, மனிதரர கவர்கிறான். ஆனால் அந்த பைம், பிறரர ஏமாற்றி, ளநர்ரமயற்ற முரறயில் கிரடக்கப்சபற்று, ளவதரனகரேயும் துன்பங்கரேயும் உடன் சகான்டுவருவது. அவன் நமது ஆண்டவர் இளயசுரவளய இவ்வாறு ளசாதித்தான் – ’நீர் என்ரன தாே பைிந்துசகாண்டால், இவ்வுைகம் அரனத்ரதயும் உமக்குத் தருளவன்’ என்றான். அவர் அவரன எதிர்த்த மாதிரிளய, நாமும், ’அப்பாளை ளபா சாத்தாளன’ என்று கூறி, சசல்வச் சசழிப்ரப நாடாமல், ளதவன் ஒருவருக்ளக பைிய ளவண்டும் பைத்ரதயும் சசல்வத்ரதயும் குறித்து கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் சரியான பார்ரவ சகான்டிருக்க ளவண்டும் ’முதைாவது ளதவனுரடய இராஜ்ஜியத்ரதயும் அவருரடய நீதிரயயும் ளதடும்ளபாது இரவயரனத்தும் கிரடக்கப்சபறும் என விசுவாசிக்க ளவண்டும். கடின உரழப்பின் மூைம் தங்கள் ஆகாரத்ரத ஈட்ட ளவண்டும். ஆபிரகாரமப் ளபால் ளதவன் ஆசீர்வதிக்கும் ளபாது, தங்கள் நிரைரய உயர்த்தாமல், மற்றவர்களுக்கு அதரன பகிர்ந்தேிக்க ளவண்டும். ளதவன் சகாடுப்பரவகளுக்கு கண்காைிகோக இருந்து, அவற்ரற ளதவன் பரிக்கும்ளபாது, அதரன ஏற்கும் மனநிரை சகாள்ே ளவண்டும். ஆவியில் எேிரமயும் தாழ்ரமயும் நிரறந்தவர்கோய் வாழ்ந்து, மனுஷன் அப்பத்தினால் மாத்திரம் அல்ை, ளதவனிடத்திைிருந்து வரும் ஒவ்சவாரு வார்த்ரதயினாலும் பிரழப்பான் என விசுவாசிக்க ளவண்டும். ஆவிக்குரிய வேர்ச்சிளய ளதவன் அருளும் முதல் ஆசீர்வாதம் என ளவதம் ளபாதிக்கிறது. அதின் மூைளம நாம் ளதவனுக்காய் நிரைத்து வாழமுடியும். இன்று கிறிஸ்தவர்கேிடம் இந்த சிந்ரத மரறந்து வருவரத காண்கிளறாம். கிறிஸ்தவ தரைவர்களும்கூட இந்த அபாயத்தில் விழுந்து ளபாகின்றனர். கிறிஸ்துவின் சிலுரவரய நமக்கு முன்னிரையில் ரவக்காமல் இருப்பளத இதற்கு காரைம். சாபமாய் எண்ைப்பட்ட சிலுரவரய இளயசு தனது சின்னமாக, உைகத்தின் ரமயத்தில் நிறுவினார். சிலுரவ உைகத்தில் நாட்டமுள்ே மனதிற்கு வியப்பாகவும், கீழ்ப்படிகிற ஆன்மாவிற்கு வழிகாட்டியாகவும் இருக்கிறது. ளதவ இராஜ்ஜியம் – உைகம், குறுகிய வாசல் – அகைமான பாரத, பரளைாக ஆதாயம் – பூளைாக ைாபம் – இவற்ரற பிரிப்பது கிறிஸ்துவின் சிலுரவளய. நமது சுயத்ரத சவறுத்து, கிறிஸ்துரவயும் அவரது


சிலுரவரயயும் பின்பற்ற நாம் அரழக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிளறாம். சிலுரவயின் ஆதாயம் ஜீவகிரீடம். தனக்கு முன்னிருந்த அந்த மகிரமயின் காரைமாக இளயசு சிலுரவயின் ளவதரனரயயும் நிந்ரதரயயும் சகித்தார். இந்த சைந்து காைமும், இக்கட்டில் இருப்ளபார் சிலுரவப்பாரதரய சதரிந்துசகாள்ேளவ ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. இம்மாதம் இரண்டாவது வாரம் நடசபறவுள்ே மிஷனரி வாரத்திற்காகவும் அரதத் சதாடர்ந்து வரும் சபரிய வாரத்தின் ஆராதரனகளுக்காகவும் சஜபிப்ளபாம். ’இன்ரறய சூழ்நிரையில் திருச்சரபயின் மிகவும் முக்கியமான பங்கு – மிஷனரிப்பைியா? சீஷத்துவமா? ’ என்ற தரைப்பில் ஒரு விவாதம் நடத்தவிருக்கிளறாம். ஆர்வமுடன் இதில் பங்குசகாள்ே உங்கரே அரழக்கிளறன். பள்ேி மற்றும் கல்லூரி இறுதியாண்டு ளதர்வு எழுதும் நம் பிள்ரேகளுக்கு என் வாழ்த்துக்கள். “... விசுவோசத்ததத் துவக்குகிறவரும் முடிக்கிறவருமோயிருக்கிற இபயசுதவ பநோக்கி, நமக்கு நியமித்திருக்கிற ஓட்டத்தில் ப ோறுதமயோய் ஓடக்கடபவோம்: அவர் தமக்கு முன் தவத்திருந்த சந்பதோஷத்தின்ப ோருட்டு, அவமோனத்தத எண்ணோமல், சிலுதவதயச் சகித்து, பதவனுதடய சிங்கோசனத்தின் வலது ோரிசத்தில் வறீ்றிருக்கிறோர்” எ ிபேயர் 12:1,2 ளதவ கிருரப உங்களுடன் தரித்திருப்பதாக. ப ோதகர் படவிட் லிவிங்ஸ்டன்

REPORT ON WHITEFIELD METHODIST CHURCH BY WHITEFILED OUTREACH TEAM

In 2011, BMC Pastor visited Mr. Vasu’s family who were attending the LR Nagar Methodist church. The family was found to be fond of the Lord and they wel-comed the children and neighbors to their home and were praying for their needs. Further Pastoral visits helped start regular prayer meetings in their home. Having freshly begun a ministry for Irula community in the IEM mission field, The PC of BMC was praying and keeping the eyes open for God’s prompting for more mis-sion work. When the Pastor highlighted a need for regular Worship and Sunday School work in Whitefield area, few of us visited Mr. Vasu’s family and saw the need in that area. Their report sensitized the PC and a Sunday worship and Sunday school was started in Mr. Vasu’s home on the second Sunday of Sep 2012.

Very soon, Mr. Franklin DC came forward to help in the Sunday worship services who was supported by many of our members. We had Sunday services in either Tamil or Kannada, translated to Hindi, Sunday classes, VBS, area fellowships in kannada and hindi, weekly tuitions, etc.

The ministry grew day by day and the new believers were baptized and joined the church. Having felt the need for a bigger area for worship, we moved into one of the classrooms at St. Josephs Convent in the third Sunday of February 2015.

Whitefield is an important place in Bangalore with lakhs and lakhs of people moving into this place in recent times, due to expansion of the city and growth in the IT industry in this area. The Lord had given us a burden to start a service in English which became a reality on the 21st of February. We identified a hall in the same premises and the present activities are Tamil / Kannada Service with Hindi transla-tion at 8 am and English service at 10 am, Women’s prayer on Thursdays and tuitions in the week days. Last year VBS was conducted and there was a very good response. BMC Sunday School team has been conducting the Children’s ministry week after week. Further, there is another mission work started at Varthur.

Sun, 21st Feb 2016 was a day of special significance in the history of BMC (Bethel Methodist Church) as God helped us to formally inaugurate WMC (Whitefield Methodist Church). Our Bishop Rt.Rev.Subodh C. Mondal formally inaugurated the church and named it as 'Whitefield Methodist Church' which we had so far called as

'Whitefield outreach' Our bishop prayed and dedicated the church that this would be a place where many would come to know and grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We praise God for our pastor Rev.David Livingston, Mr. Franklin D C, Mr. Vasu’s Fam-ily and the Whitefield outreach team for their enthusiasm and dedication towards the building up of God's kingdom in this area. Please support this ministry at White-field specifically in terms of praying, participating by visiting once a month if possible,

locating new members in and around Whitefield who may not be regularly attending any service.

Each of us has a responsibility in God's kingdom, may we all prayerfully do our part for God's glory.


மிஷனரி சரிதத: பதோகுப்பு - திருமதி ளராசைின் ளமரி ிறப்பும் வளர்ப்பும்: ஸ்காட்ைாந்து ளதசத்ரதச் ளசர்ந்த இவர், 1824 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஒரு எேிய கிறிஸ்தவ குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்தார். சதய்வ பக்தியுள்ே இவரது தந்ரத ஒரு வியாபாரி. இவரது வடீ்டில் பரிசுத்த அரற என்று ஒரு அரற இருந்தது. அதில், ஒருநாேில் மூன்று முரற இவரது தகப்பனார் சசன்று, தனது குடும்பத்திற்காகவும், ஸ்காட்ைாந்து ளதசத்திற்காகவும் சஜபித்து வந்தரதப் பார்த்த ளபட்டன், தானும் சஜபிக்க ஆண்டவருடன் சநருங்கி ஜீவிக்கக் கற்றுக்சகாண்டார். தனது குடும்பத்தின் வறுரமயின் காரைமாக தனது 12 ஆம் வயதிளை பள்ேிப் படிப்ரப விட்டு, தனது தகப்பனாரின் வியாபாரத்தில் உதவி சசய்து வந்தார். இந்நாட்கேில் இவர் இளயசு கிறிஸ்துரவ சசாந்த இரட்சகராக ஏற்றுக்சகாண்டார். ளதவனின் ஊழியம் சசய்ய அதிக ஆர்வத்துடன் சஜபித்துக்சகாண்டிருந்தார். அவரது வாஞ்ரசக்கு ஏற்ப அவருக்கு ளவதாகமக் கல்லூரியில் படிக்க வாய்ப்பு ஏற்பட்டளபாது அதில் சந்ளதாஷத்துடன் இரைந்து படிக்க ஆரம்பித்தார். கல்லூரியில் ளவதத்துடன் மருத்துவத்ரதயும் கற்றார். கல்லூரிக்கு அருகிலுள்ே பகுதியில் சமுதாயத்தில் பின்தங்கிய மக்கள் மத்தியில் ஊழியம் சசய்தார். அதைப்பு: பிரிஸ்பிடிரியன் சரபரயச் ளசர்ந்த ஒரு மிஷனரி, நியூ ரைபிரிட்ஸ் (ஆஸ்திளரைியாவின் தீவுக்கூட்டத்தின் ஒரு பகுதி) என்ற தீவுகேில் வாழும் ஆதிவாசிகரேப்ப பற்றியும் அவர்கள் மத்தியில் மற்ற மிஷனரியுடன் இரைந்து ஊழியம் சசய்ய ஒரு வாைிபன் ளதரவ என்ற சசய்திரயயும் ளகட்ட சபாழுது ஆவியானவர் இவருடன் ளபச ஆரம்பித்தார். ’இந்த மிஷனரிப் பைிக்காக உன்ரன அர்ப்பைி’ என்று சமல்ைிய சத்தத்ரத சதேிவாகக் ளகட்க, ’நான் சசல்கிளறன்’ என்று அர்ப்பைித்து எழுந்து நின்றார். நியூ ரைபிரிட்ஸ் தீவுக்கு மிஷனரியாகச் சசல்ைப் ளபாகிளறன் என்று நண்பர்கள் மற்றும் சரப உறுப்பினர்கேிடம் பகிர்ந்து சகாண்ட ளபாது, பைர் இவரர ளசார்வரடயச் சசய்தனர். ஒரு முதியவர் அவரிடம் “வாைிபளன, அங்ளக ளபாகாளத, அங்கு உன்ரன நரமாமிச பட்சினிகள் தின்றுவிடுவார்கள்” என்றார். அதற்கு ளபட்டன் சிரித்துக்சகாண்ளட “ வயதானவளர, நீர் இறந்து கல்ைரறயில் அடக்கம் சசய்யப்படும்ளபாது, உம்ரம புழுக்கள் தின்னும், நான் ளதவப் பைி சசய்து, நரமாமிச பட்சினிகோல் தின்னப்பட்டாலும், சாதாரனமாக இறந்து புழுக்கோல் தின்னப்பட்டாலும் வித்தியாசம் ஒன்றுமில்ரைளய” என்று கூறினார். ளபட்டனுரடய சபற்ளறார் அவரர சந்ளதாஷமாக அனுப்பி ரவத்தனர். 1858 ஆம் ஆண்டு ளபட்டன் தனது மரனவி ளமரி ஆனுடன் தனது 34 ஆவது வயதில் நியூ ரைபரிட்ஸ் தீவுகரே ளநாக்கிப் பயைமானார். நியூ தை ரிட்ஸ் தீவுகளும் நே மோமிச ட்சினிகளும்: இத்தீவு கூட்டங்கேில் வாழும் ஆதிவாசி மக்கள் சகாடூரமான சசயல்கரே துைிந்து சசய்வார்கள். மனிதர்கரே ளவட்ரடயாடுவதும், சகால்லுவதும் மனித மாமிசத்ரத உண்பதும் இவர்களுக்கு சாதாரைமான சசயல்கள். அசுத்த ஆவிகரேப் பிரியப்படுத்த சிரைகரே வழிபட்டும், சூனியங்கரே சசய்தும்


வந்தனர். கைவன் இறக்கும்ளபாது மரனவியின் கழுத்ரத சநரித்து, சகான்று கைவனுடன் புரதத்து விடுவார்கள். வயதானவர்கள் வடீ்டுக்குப் பாரமாகும்ளபாது தடியால் அடித்ளத சகான்றுவிடுவார்கள். இவர்கள் மத்தியில் சுவிளசஷம் சசால்ை சசன்ற முதல் மிஷனரியாகிய ஜான் வில்ைியம்ரை அடித்துக் சகான்று தின்றுவிட்டனர் பசோததனகள்: பைித்தேம் வந்து ஒரு வருடத்தில் இவர்களுக்கு ஒரு மகன் பிறந்தான். குழந்ரத பிறந்த மூன்றாவது வாரத்தில், இவரது மரனவி விஷக்காய்ச்சைால் 1859 ஆம் ஆண்டு மார்ச் 3 ஆம் ளததி இறந்து ளபானார். ஒரு வாரத்தில் குழந்ரதயும் இறந்து ளபானது. மன ளவதரன நிரறந்தவராய் ளபட்டன், இளயசு எனக்கு இல்ைாதிருந்தால், ரபத்தியமாகியிருப்ளபன் என்று சசான்னார். இவரது உயிருக்கும் எப்ளபாதும் ஆபத்து காத்துக்சகாண்டிருந்தது. ஆதிவாசி மக்கள் இவரது எல்ைா உரடரமகரேயும் திருடிச் சசன்றனர். இதனால் சரமக்கக் கூட பாத்திரங்கள் இல்ைாமல் கஷ்டப்பட்டார். ஒரு முரற ளபட்டரன மந்திரம் சசய்து, சகால்ை முயன்ற இரண்டு சூனியக்காரர்கள், அவருக்கு தீரம ஒன்றும் சம்பவிக்காதரதப் பார்த்து இளயசு கிறிஸ்துரவக் குறித்து அறிய விரும்பினார்கள், கிராமத்தில் நடக்கும் சாராயம் காய்ச்சுதல், சவடி மருந்து தயாரித்தல், புரகயிரை வியாபாரம் ளபான்றவற்ரற ளபட்டன் எதிர்த்து வந்ததால் இவரரக் சகால்லுவதற்கு சிை வியாபாரிகளும் முயற்சி சசய்தனர். எதிர்ப்புகள் அதிகமாகளவ, ளபட்டன் சிை நாட்கள் ஆஸ்திளரைியா சசன்று தனது ஊழியங்களுக்காக சஜபிக்கவும், முன்ளனற்றப் பைி சசய்யவும் ளநரத்ரத சசைவிட்டார். பின்னர் ரைபிரிட்ஸ் அருகில் உள்ே அனிவா என்ற தீவில் பைிபுரிய ஆரம்பித்தார் அனிவோ தீவு: அனிவாவில் உள்ே மக்கள் இவரர அன்புடன் ஏற்றுக்சகாண்டனர். ஊழியமும் விரிவடந்தது. கிராமத் தரைவனும் கிறிஸ்துரவ ஏற்றுக்சகாண்டான். படிப்பின் முக்கியத்துவத்ரத அவர் உைர்த்தினார். மக்களுக்கு ஆரடயைிய சசால்ைிக் சகாடுத்தார். சிறிய அனிவா தீவு முழுவதும் ஆண்டவரிடம் வந்தது. அனிவா தீவில் குடிதண்ைரீ் இல்ைாதரத அறிந்த ளபட்டன் மக்கேின் உதவியுடன் கிைறு சவட்டினார். பூமியின் அடியிைிருந்து மரழ சபய்கிறது என்று நிரனத்து மக்கள் ஆச்சரியத்துடன் பார்த்தனர். தண்ைரீர எடுத்து சுரவத்துப் பார்த்த தரைவன், தனது மக்கள் அரனவரரயும் இளயசு கிறிஸ்துரவப் பின்பற்றவும், தங்கேது எல்ைா விக்கிரகங்கரேயும் எரித்துப் புரதக்கவும் உத்தரவிட்டான். 1899 ஆம் ஆண்டு ளபட்டன் அனிவா சமாழியில் புதிய ஏற்பாட்ரட சமாழி சபயர்த்து சவேியிட்டார். பத்து வருட கடின உரழப்பிற்குப் பின், பை தீவுகேில் சுவிளசஷம் ளவகமாகப் பரவியது. இவரது தீவிர முயற்சியால் இரண்டு அனாரத விடுதிகள், பை ஆையங்கள், பள்ேிகள், ஆகியரவ அரமக்கப்பட்டன. சமுதாயத்தில் குற்றங்களும், சகாரைகளும் தீரமகளும் குரறய ஆரம்பித்தன. ஒரு ளவதாகமப் பயிற்சிப் பள்ேியும் நிறுவப்பட்டது. அவர் இறுதி நாள் வரர அங்கு உரழத்து ளவதாகமம் முழுவரதயும் அனிவா சமாழியில் சமாழிசபயர்த்தார். நான் மரிக்கும்வரர இங்கு பைிபுரிளவன் என்றார். அளநக ஆதிவாசிகள் ளதவனிடம் திரும்புவரத கண்டு 1909 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஜனவரி 28 ஆம் ளததி தனது 83 ஆம் வயதில் மரித்தார்.


Tamil Youth Camp - Feedback Dear reader, My name is Joshua, I am working in a private concern here in Ban-

galore. This is the first time I’m attending the camp with the BMC group. At first I was in confusion whether I should attend or not because I am new to the church, but somehow by God’s grace I was convinced that I have to attend though I had no idea how this would go, but praise be to God, I feel happy that I’ve attended the camp.

Really God spoke with me personally in several aspects of my life. I praise God for the speakers, really well prepared and committed people, they touched all the topics related to youth especially relationship, love, marriage, calling of God and committing our lives to God. It was so good to understand and I believe this will cre-ate an impact in the lives of all the youth who attended I am sure. Bro Jason and Bro Manivannan took the majority of the sessions and handled Informal Q&A sessions which were very useful. During practical talks they gave lots of ways to handle many major problems of youth according to Scripture. “G4G-Go for God” is a saying they introduced, which reminds us to do something for God every day.

This camp gave me an opportunity to see people in different levels of faith in God, quite amazing to see how God works in each person’s life to glorify his name and uses them as useful vessels.

I really wish to share this particular experience. There were missionaries from COME ministry who shared their testimony on Saturday, how God uses them in the midst of slum people especially youth. They said once the youth who are in darkness find the love of Jesus through these missionaries, God changes their attitudes to-wards Christ and they are filled with the love of Christ. She was telling us how these guys show love towards these missionaries by caring for them and protecting them from RSS people. When I heard those things I thanked God for the grace towards these missionaries and God also made me understand one step further.

It was Sunday, the last day of the camp and I was roaming alone around the camp site. I met a guy who was staring at me and after a few minutes he approached and asked me if there was any camp going on here. I said yes, I did not know that he was from the slum area the missionary had spoken about. He was well dressed and politely enquired about the camp. Then I enquired about him and at last confirmed

that he was in search of that missionary. While I was speaking with him, his eyes were roaming around the camp, he spotted the missionary and said he had come to see the missionary and walked very fast to meet her. I could see the happiness in his eyes, I was really amazed to see such a thing because he came from a long distance to meet that missionary, and he then attended the remaining sessions with great interest. This made me realize how God works among missionaries who have com-mitted their lives to God and uses them as good fruits. I really thanked God for giving

me such a wonderful experience to understand how he works through missionaries.

I praise God for giving such a wonderful time in this camp to know more about him. Sincere thanks to the people who arranged this camp and gave their time for this. Praise be to God.


Hindi Camp –Report Mr Dilip How much our LORD cares for individual souls (Isaiah 54:13) was once again

proved in our Church camp. There were less than 10 people from our Church’s

Whitefield outreach who wanted to hear His word in Hindi, but our LORD

sent seven of His servants to minister to this small group. For this group of

people, it was nothing short of a BMC Hindi Camp.

Rev. Christukumar took much effort on Saturday morning and after-

noon sessions, patiently explaining the basic Christian concepts and strength-

ening the foundation of the new believers. Bro. Robin took a session on par-

enting on Saturday evening where everyone could feel the presence of our

LORD. On Sunday morning, Bro. Jason conducted the Hindi service with the message

based on the life of Bartimaeus, challenging the believers not to be discour-

aged when others try to keep us away from Jesus, but follow Jesus, not by

comparing with those more well off than us but by trying to help those who

are not as blessed as us we are. Post breakfast, Bro. I. K. Abraham led an in-

teractive session, both answering the questions the believers had and asking

them questions like why they came to Christ and why they believe in Him. He

then explained the right reasons to come to Christ and ways to stay steadfast in

the LORD till the end. In the next session, Bro. Jays challenged the believers

to talk to God and boldly approach the throne of the LORD and not always

depend on others to pray for them. Post lunch, Bro. Ebe, with the example of a

pencil, brought out five practical truths, including requesting the believers to

submit themselves into the hands of God, to be sharpened and to be used ac-

cording to His will and not just kept aside unused and idle. The final session

was by Sis. Shyla who led the session interactively teaching from the life of

Jesus and the everyday joys of living for Jesus and she also taught new songs

and meaningful games.

Tamil Kids camp - Report Mrs. Joyce Arun Praise God for the wonderful way He enabled the kids to have a meaningful time during the Tamil Camp! There were totally 40 kids who attended the camp. Robin, Victor, Simon and Immanuel from Hikids Ministry were the resource persons. The theme was “Champions for Jesus”. All the songs and teachings that were done were centered on the theme. The children learnt that the secret to become a champion for Jesus is by reading the Bible and praying daily. During common session there were new action songs taught to the kids. There was also puppet show which brought out the importance of prayer. It was a delight to see the young ones laugh aloud and

enjoy the puppet show. Children were also divided into groups and were engaged in activities based on the theme. On the final day, the kids displayed to everyone who attended the camp what they had learnt through songs and skit. The skit brought out the message behind Jesus raising Lazarus from death in a humorous way. The kids departed from the camp reluctantly but with a strong message that they would be champions if they have Jesus in their life.


Missionary Profile - Mrs. Jhansi Praveen DR.IDA SCUDDER – Angel of Mercy to multitudes Birth and Childhood: Dr. Ida Scudder was a third generation American medical missionary in India from the Scudder family. Ida was born in Ranipet near Chennai on Dec 9th 1870 to Dr. John Scudder Jr and Sophia. In 1878, due to cholera and famine, Ida’s family moved to the United States for a while. Ida’s par-ents returned to India a few years later. They left 13-year-old Ida in the US under her uncle and aunt’s guardianship to com-plete her education.

Visiting India: In 1890, Ida was forced to withdraw from her school without graduating to take care of her sick mother. Ida didn’t want to become a med-ical missionary and serve in India. She wanted to leave India as soon as possi-ble, get married and settle down in America.

The Three Knocks: One day 3 men, a Brahmin, a Muslim and a Hindu came to ask her to assist their wives who were in labour. She didn’t have any medi-cal knowledge, and said her father was a doctor and he would help them. All of them refused saying that they would allow their wives to die rather than have a male doctor assist in their delivery. The next day Ida came to know that all the 3 women had died during the night. That incident changed Ida’s life. She told her parents that she would go to America to study Medicine and come back to help the women in India.

Medical Studies in the United States: Ida joined the women’s Medical College at Philadelphia. She then transferred to Cornell Medical College, New York in 1899. She was one of the first women graduates in the medical col-lege. Then she planned to gain practical knowledge under her father in India. At that time her father, Dr. John Scudder Jr, was working in the development of a new vaccine for cholera

First Hospital in Vellore: A Banker named Schell gave $10,000 to Ida in memory of his wife Mary Taber Schell, and with that money Dr. Ida started the Mary Taber Hospital in 1902 with 2 wards and 40 beds, an operating the-atre with glass table, kerosene stoves to sterilize instruments and a dispensa-ry with shelves of medicines. At first, the people hesitated and after several days they slowly starting coming to the hospital. Most of the patients were suffering from TB, Typhoid, Leg ulcers, eye infections, Cancer, Leprosy, Chol-era, and Malaria. Poor patients were not charged and one of the wards was reserved for them. Salomi, a native friend of Ida helped her in the hospital. She conducted 21 major operations, 428 minor operations and treated 12,359 patients in the first year alone. For next 22 years, Dr. Ida remained the hospital’s only surgeon. Soon the hospital expanded with 42 beds and 18 nurses.


Mobile Clinic: In 1916, a motor-car was gifted to Dr. Ida and with Salomi she visited villages up to 50 miles away and set up roadside clinics. The villagers had never seen a modern doctor or a nurse or a car. They initially called them as ‘devils’. Gradually changes occurred, both rich and poor waited for Dr. Ida to get treated from their diseases.

Home for the Homeless: Dr. Ida was very busy in the hospital from dawn till night. Patients in the hospital brought their own mats to sleep in because they feared the height of the hospital beds. After a long struggle Ida saved a Muslim girl giving birth to a girl baby. The baby was healthy but the relatives called it evil and didn’t want to see it. One morning Ida heard an inner voice and rushed out of the dispensary and went to the ward. A female relative of the Muslim baby girl was trying to kill the baby with a pillow while the moth-er watched and cried. Dr. Ida was shocked and pulled the pillow away to save the baby. She took the baby with her and named her as Mary Taber. As years passed many orphans were saved from death and lived in the Christian home in Vellore

Vellore Christian Medical Centre: Ida aimed to begin a nursing school, so she went to the US to raise funds and with that she began a small nursing school in Vellore with 15 students. Ida dreamt of a new hospital and a medi-cal college and after many struggles she opened the Medical school for wom-en in 1918. Many said that she would be lucky to get at least 3 applicants, but she had 151 in the first year. The school faced a crisis in 1938 when the Madras government passed a law that medical degrees could only be granted by universities. Dr. Ida brought pressure with her supporters against this law. By 1950, the school become affiliated to the University of Madras. Later Ida planned to reconstruct the hospital outside the town on a 200-acre site after which the hospital was the largest Christian hospital in Asia with 2000 beds.

Awards: Dr. Ida won the Elizabeth Blackwell citation from the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary as one of 1952’s five outstanding women doctors. Her name was very famous in India. Letters would reach her addressed simply, ‘Dr. Ida, India.’ A school in Vellore is named after Ida Scudder.

Death: During her lifetime, she saw her medical centre become one of the largest in Asia. She spent her life to improve medical education. Even after retiring from the hospital, she took a keen interest in the latest developments in the hospital, supervised young doctors and also established Tuesday Bible class. She improved the lives of Indian women. Dr. Ida never married. On 23rd May 1960, she passed away at the age of 90 in India. The Scudder family have contributed more than 1100 combined years to Christian medical service in India by 42 members of 4 generations. Scores of students of Vellore CMC have graduated and gone to every part of the world, taking with them the knowledge and love Dr. Ida taught them both by her words and her life.

Pray for a state in India: Pray for Haryanaand the Jat agitation therein. a.About Jat quota demand: The army was deployed in eight districts of Haryana after two people were killed and 21 injured in police action as protesters from the Jat community inten-sified their demand for reservation under the OBC category.Jat protesters blocked roads and a national highway for over three-consecutive daysin Jind district. The Jat agitation for reserva-tion in jobs and educational institutions in Haryana has crippled the state for the second time in a year. The issue, however, goes back nearly seven years. b.When did struggle for quota begin?The campaign by Jats began prominently in 2009 when the JatArakshanSamiti was formed. Testimony LIVING TESTIMONY TO GOD”S FAITHFULNESS Ms. BOLA & BLESSING We are citizen of Nigeria, did GNM and working as a staff nurse in reputable hospital. God told us that He will be taking us to a new place, as

we were seeking His face for the next step in our academics.

We got contact of someone who assisted with the admission, the ad-mission was supposed to be in September, but he told us we can resume as soon as the visa is processed. We had series of challenges as regarding the visa, but god gave us the victory on December 12 2014(for more than 3 months). We consulted our agent, he told us we can still come over, we booked an expensive ticket for flight just to resume to school. We later land-ed in India on 30th December 2014. Little did we know that we will be faced

with lots of challenges.

On reporting to the school, the principal denied that she wasn’t ex-pecting us and that none of our documents were brought to her & the admis-sion for the year have closed (we felt the whole world will collapse) and that we have to wait till the next admission in September (these were days of eating and dinning in uncontrollable tears). Unfortunately, the person who helped with the admission has already left for his country before we came

here, which makes the issue more compounded.

The 2nd challenge; we were told convincingly by our agent that we can work, so we thought we can start working & resume by September to college, but to our greatest surprise we were told we cannot work. (so disap-pointed). Around February 2015, we decided to go back to our country, but the bible verse that says ‘if you fail in the days of adversary, your strength is

weak’. Also God promised us in Isaiah 45;2,3, that He will make a way.

God used a Muslim to challenge our faith and told us that we have to believe in God, he approached the school and they allowed us to start our first year. Also Mr. Franklin our youth leader came with his family to see the school management. We were told we need some documents again from our school in Nigeria that took us so long to get. God used Selvin uncle (church secretary) who went to Nigeria and brought down our document to us in In-dia, we are indeed grateful, God bless you sir. A Muslim brother volunteered to go to New Delhi on our behalf for the processing of our equivalent certifi-cate and God provided tremendously for us to make provision for his journey. Praise to God the equivalent certificate came on October 15 2015, we were

so happy but we are unable to write the first year exam.

Finally on February 18 2016, our eligibility certificate was released, all our lecturers came congratulating us, and they knew all what we passed

through. But during these periods of great challenges, God keep speaking to


us that God is preparing us for manifestation of His glory during the Old Tes-tament camp. This period makes us closer to God, working for God, involved more in fasting and prayer. Some people were praying for us from the church, mummy Selina Mohandoss, who we always cry and talk our mind to and also some great families who supported us in all areas, we appreciate

you, God bless you all richly.

By the grace of God, we will be through with our 2years course by September, but will be writing 1st year exam, to come back for the 2nd year exam by next year (sept 2017). Keep praying along with us as we are trusting

God to know what to do from this year ending before the final exam.

We are indeed grateful that God made us to be more than a conquer-or and for making BMC, its congregation, youth fellowship as a source of sol-

ace, place of spiritual growth and blessing to us. WE LOVE YOU ALL.

This is a challenge to everyone that God is ever faithful to His words even though we are faithless, we should always trust Him, it’s better for God to be sleeping inside our sinking boat, because we are confident of His pres-ence. And to our fellow foreign student, you can only cast your burdens and struggles on Christ alone and be closer to Him. To every of God promises, He

will do it in His own time. SHALOM!
