Time Vampires And How ToSlay ThemFebruary 25th, 2012

The Time Vampires AreEverywhere!Forget about the zombie apocalypse for now, the United Statesmilitary actually has a plan drawn up just in case it actuallyhappens. But there is a viable threat to you that I have to makeyou aware of. And no its not Edward there, but something farmore sinister. Its the freaking time vampires that are in yourlife.

You know what I am talking about. Its all those things thatkeep you from working on your business on a day to day basis. This elusive little creature spreads like the plague all aroundyou. And more often then not you don’t realize that the timevampires have stuck you until its too late. But there is away to keep the time vampires safely away from so that youcan accomplish some more important tasks, like making onemillion dollars (say it the Dr. Evil way)

Unprintable Content (Video, Flash, etc.)

In order to defeat the time vampires you have to understandwhat leads to them. Overwhelm, Procrastination, Distractionsall bring time vampires to your life. All of these bring the thetime vampires to your life and if you have the tools to defeatthem, you will have the tools to avoid the big three above.

Time Vampires In Your InboxYou all know this particular set of time vampires. These timevampires go by the names Frank Kern, Ryan Deiss, ToddFalcone, David Wood, the list goes on and on. Now don’t getme wrong all of these fine time vampires send out some greatinformation on their lists. That’s why we all signed up forthem. But over time you start following so many top producersin our industry and what happens is we end up with over 40emails in our inbox before noon. Yeck, when I wake up in themorning and I already have 40 emails.

Plus you add in all the emails from Facebook, LikedIn, and allthe other sites that want to keep you coming back. Of coursethat is when the time vampires strike. You end up spendingtwo or three hours a day reading your emails, checking out the

latest product or service. You may even buy a few things thatyou just have to have to succeed on the internet.

So to kill this particular set of time vampires your going to needto use a tool. Its called the unsubscribe link. I know, you spentall that time signing up for these lists and your getting somegreat information. But how is it really helping you. I bet youemails in your inbox right now that your going to read later. From a month ago. Go check, I’ll wait.

Unsubscribe or changing your notification settings is the key tokeeping you focused on what really matters, working for yourbusiness.

Time Vampires In Your SkypeI still attacked by these time vampires from time to time. Iwill be writing a post and someone will ask a question or makea statement in one of the eight groups that I belong and Ijust can’t help myself. I stop what I am doing and go read thecomment. Or worse yet, I end up chatting it up for a half hourreally about nothing. The thing just beeped at me while I waswriting this, and yes I looked.

But if you just can’t live without having your Skype on that isok. There is this cool little feature in the status setting calledDo Not Disturb. Your messages will continue to come in butyou won’t get distracted by the notification noise. Optimallywhile your doing something for you business your going towant to just shut off Skype. But I understand that Skypeis an important business tool. So you really can’t kill theseparticular time vampires, but you can put a muzzle on himwhen you need to.

Time Vampires On Your PhoneThese time vampires are the most dangerous for a networkmarketer. Have you ever called a prospect to interview themto see if they are right for you? I hope the answer is yes. Butduring this call, the time vampires start talking to you abouttheir business. Or worse yet, they ramble on about the latestand greatest thing they signed up for and why its going to makethem rich.

I feel sorry for these particular time vampires because I knowthat 95% of them are going to fail at their business. I alsoknow that I have the tools that they need in order to succeed. But they won’t take me up on my offer, because their are starstruck. I don’t kill these time vampires because I truly do wantto help them. I simply get their attention, make sure theyare listening and tell them that “the purpose of my call is tointerview you to see if they are the type of person that want toinvest my time in.” That usually puts these time vampires atrest and more open to an effective and short conversation.

There is of course another version of this particular breedof time vampires and they are the ones in your downline. You have a team site with all the information they need toget started. Its actually quite duplicatable and effect. Youknow it works. But like any good upline would you call tosee how they are doing. What happens next will cost youan hour. They dump on you about how they couldn’t figuresomething out. They ask you for your opinion on the latest andgreatest shiny thing they just bought. They talk to you aboutthe compensation plan for something they just signed up for. But never once do they mention what they have done todayfor their business. The stupid time vampires got to them.

You can slay these time vampires by simply stopping themmid-conversation by say “like I said when I called, I amchecking to see what your progress is in the training. I can’treally talk long because I have some work for my own businessto get done. If you run into any issues please send me an emailor Skype me and I will address your issue as soon as I can.”

Time Vampires On Your BrowserTime to kill the browser time vampires. They are calledFacebook, YouTube, LinkedIN, and forums. Don’t get mewrong these places all have their purpose in life. I love everyone of them and the traffic that they can bring when usedcorrectly. But, if you let yourself slip you will be one of themfor an hour reading stuff and chatting away before you evenknow it.

Use a timer when you get on these sites to keep the timevampires back. Set it for 30 minutes, I like this amount of timebecause I have found I am both productive and can play at thesame time. Plus after 30 minutes a day what else do you reallyhave to do for your business on them. I know sometimes if Iam not watching myself, I could end up spending two hourswatching funny videos. That’s two hours I could have used towrite another blog post and call ten leads.

There are many obstacles in your way when your just startingout building your network marketing business. Don’t letthe time vampires add too that list of reasons of why peoplefail. Don’t let them get in your way, because if you do you willend up being one of the 95%. There is a way to get yourselfmotived

A 4 Step Way To Get The Time VampiresOut Of Your HeadStep 1Be in a quite place by yourself with nothing else going onaround you.

Step 2Close your eyes and think back about past moments in your lifethat you were fired up, engaged, incredibly motived, or whenyou were taking massive action. If you never have been inthose states, just imagine if your were.

Step 3Take yourself back to that place in time. What were you seeingaround you? See the things that you saw at that time. Turnon your ears and hear the sounds around you. What were youhearing? What were the smells around you at that time? Feelthose feelings of what it felt like to be really really motivated.

Step 4Grab ahold of that feeling. Use an “anchor,” meaning onceyour in that state gently pinch your earlobe. Eventually yourmind will associate that positive feeling with you pinching yourearlobe and those feeling will rush back whenever you need itmost.

I know all about the time vampires and the time that I havewasted. Just by switching everything off and getting on withwhat you need to do makes all the difference but it is temptingto open your email or check Skype while in the middle ofsomething. Thanks for sharing this great post.

Great post, Clint! I am working on dealing with my e-mailvampires right now. I’m getting to that point where I dread aday where I can’t check my e-mail because of just how manymessages I have to check when I get back to it, which leads todespair, which leads to the number on the inbox getting biggerand bigger. Slowly but surely, I’m getting rid of these e-mailsthat I don’t think I’ve ever read, and I’m using the stake that isthe unsubscribe button. You have some great tips to continue

Awesome advice. There are vampires everywhere. It is up toeach individual to clock themselves to see where they arespending too much time on. I like things going Fast, fast, fast!So, I become invisible on Facebook, twitter, etc. I have themon, but what gave me this idea is that I kept getting pop-upmessages on Facebook, while I was syndicating. Now that’s avampire. Hi how are u? I had to turn things off. I don’t want toget into chit chat while I’m on a time sensitive day.They ARE vampires everywhere, I used to be stuck onFacebook, but now I am healed lol.

I spent nearly a decade in direct sales and had1,000+ Reprs in my district – many of them felt that it wasmy job to be there for them 24/7 and went out of their wayto prove it by calling all hours of the day or night. The verybest thing I did came from a Bryan Clark seminar I attended. Ihad three business lines – one for colleagues in the field, othermanagers, company personnel, etc., a second for prospectsand the third was for my Reprs with very specific directionsas far as my office hours, and the information I needed inorder to be prepared to help them when I returned the call –and then I gave them 3 times during the day that I would bereturning calls and asked them to let me know when was themost convenient for them. I really enjoyed it. I do a lot of those things you mentioned, butinstead of putting up a Do Not Disturb in Skype, I go invisibleso no one knows when I’m around, They automatically thinkI’m offline.
